Very helpful and efficient staff from booking to reception to collection.

We have been customers of this dealership for around 28 years, going back to when the Shiremoor site was Reg Vardy, and have bought five vehicles from the group. Sadly, our latest experience has left us incredibly disappointed.

On Saturday 22 August we viewed and test drove a car at Evans Halshaw Shiremoor, agreed to buy it for paid the deposit requested by the dealership and were issued a order identifying the specific car by registration, VIN and stock number, with an estimated delivery date of 31 August. We were looking forward to collecting the car over the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Tuesday we were still discussing preparation of the car, an upholstery repair and collection. Nothing suggested there was any problem.

Then on Wednesday afternoon we were suddenly told the car had apparently already been sold/allocated through another branch and that Shiremoor had missed an internal email.

Incredibly, just FIVE MINUTES after that call, Evans Halshaw's own system emailed us saying “Thank you for your recent purchase” and “Enjoy every moment in your new car!”

Mistakes happen. What has really disappointed us is what happened afterwards. Having raised the matter and expected an update, nobody contacted us the following morning and we had to chase the dealership ourselves. We have since raised this via email to senior management and nothing, leading us to think that poor customer service runs through the company to the highest level.

We want Evans Halshaw to honour the purchase and supply the car we ordered or, if their own internal error genuinely makes that impossible, source an equivalent or better vehicle at the price we agreed.

After 28 years of loyalty, we genuinely expected better. Buying a car should be exciting; instead, on the Bank Holiday weekend when we expected to be collecting ours, we are left chasing senior management simply to find out how Evans Halshaw intends to put this right.

I will happily update this review if Evans Halshaw resolves the situation.

All went well. But disappointed that you no longer collect car for the service. Shiremoor isn't convenient and we had to use taxis. Extra cost for us.

Show buyers the ins and outs of workings of car, put small amount of fuel in car to drive home atleast and valet could have been better

Really good garage, shame about lack of customer care

Sales lady pleasant and friendly, although does not return calls or replies to emails. Collected 1 year old car today, not valeted internally to a good standard; once drove home had to give it a good clean (steering wheel and dashboard were filthy). Had service 2 days prior and noticed the service book had not been completed/stamped so had to return to sort. When got home, noticed the tyre inflater had been removed from tool kit; rang saleswoman.....still waiting a return call. Marks on wheel trim, asked that this be replaced and stipulated did not want it textured to disguise the scratches, however they textured the wheel trim. Dust cap missing and was informed it would be replaced, but it was not. However, a couple of nice complementary coffees.

Sadly as much as the staff are lovely I could never go back after the first car from them had tracking and balance issues and after 3 attempts could still not be resolved so an alternative car and deal was created only for the replacement car to go in 8 or 9 times .. as much as the staff tried their best to resolve the multiple issues, after the final breakdown the deal was unwound .. staff are great but can’t in all fairness recommend the quality of their stock of cars if they really were ever inspected thoroughly before ? Luck should not come into car deals

Went to look at a car which was advertised on autotrader. It wasn’t prepped and was out the back still filthy and had interior parts off in the back. Salesman advised I can put £100 returnable deposit and once it’s prepped I can test drive and make a decision if I want it. I agreed and when I sat at the desk to pay I was asked how I’d pay for the car, and given finance options straight away, also had an repairs warranty proposal put in front of me for £600. I said Can I wait until I see if I want the car when it’s ready first. The salesman wasn’t happy and said he would like me to sign up for it to show a bit of good will! Once I told him I may pay cash for the car instead of his 12.9% finance he then said he would have to get the manager to see if I could reserve it. I then had the manager tell me I’m better off getting finance so it gives me piece of mind if the car goes wrong as I would not have to pay. They regrettably let me reserve without buying their products, which was all they were bothered about. I walked out and said to my wife, I don’t think they want me to buy this car. Fast forward 4 days , heard nothing and called in, the same salesman said there was something wrong with the car and it may need to go back into Ford. He said he would call me on Monday. No call Monday or Tuesday. I called them, got the manager who told me they had tried to ring( no they hadn’t) and that the car was going to auction as it had a fault, they had already returned my £100 deposit. Would they have ever called? The car went back up for sale that night on. EBay and autotrader and is still there now 2 weeks later. Terrible and very weird experience , seems like they are geared up to push the warranty and finance and totally don’t want your custom if your cash buyer. They never once tried to sell me another similar car, salesman couldn’t be bothered with me each time we met. I’d recommend anyone to go somewhere else and feel I’ve dodged a bullet. Appalling experience.
