I believed in Grass. I don't anymore.
I don't write reviews very often, especially negative ones. I'd rather spend my time building things than complaining. But after waiting more than a year to see how this project rewarded the people who helped build its network, I think it's only fair to share my experience.
I wasn't chasing a quick airdrop. I wasn't running a browser extension on an old laptop for a few weeks. I invested because I genuinely believed in the idea.
I run a fairly substantial homelab with multiple always-on systems. I've spent years building reliable infrastructure, so I understand exactly what it costs—both financially and in time—to keep systems online 24/7. I knew what I was contributing, and I was happy to contribute because I believed Grass was building something worth supporting.
I even bought one of the $90 Grass shirts because I wanted to support the project beyond simply running nodes.
That's how much confidence I had in it.
Looking back, I regret that decision.
My final results

*1,613,809 Uptime Points
*518.16 Network Points
Estimated Allocation: $2.61 USDC
After more than 520 days, that's what my contribution was apparently worth.
Not even enough to cover the electricity used by the equipment that helped support the network. I wasn't expecting to become rich. That would have been unrealistic.
What I did expect was that over a year of consistent participation would be recognised in a way that reflected the value contributors were providing.
Instead, I watched the reward model evolve to place far greater emphasis on Network Points, leaving huge amounts of accumulated Uptime Points with very little practical value.
Whether that was intentional or simply poor communication, the outcome is the same.
I've lost confidence in the project.
Running infrastructure isn't free.
*It costs electricity.
*It costs hardware wear.
*It costs internet bandwidth.
*It costs maintenance.
*It costs time.
Those costs are carried by the community, not by Grass.
The money itself isn't what disappointed me most.
What disappointed me was what the payout represented.
If over 520 days, across 25 devices, with more than 1.6 million Uptime Points, my contribution is considered to be worth $2.61, then I honestly don't believe long-term supporters are being valued fairly.
Grass had an interesting vision, and that's why I supported it. Unfortunately, I no longer feel that support goes both ways.

I won't be recommending Grass to anyone. If you're considering joining, don't rely solely on marketing or leaderboard screenshots. Read the experiences of long-term participants, compare the resources they invested with what they ultimately received, and decide for yourself whether it's a fair exchange.
I genuinely hope Grass improves because the concept has potential.
At this point, however, I no longer have confidence in the project.

Derek, this response actually confirms the problem I raised rather than answering it.
Grass's own documentation states that the updated points system was introduced and became effective in Epoch 11 of Stage 2.
So telling users they received little because they didn't earn enough Network Points completely sidesteps the issue: Network Points did not exist as part of the points system for the first 10 epochs.
Grass itself says the early priority was rewarding uptime and network growth, and that Uptime Points helped build the foundation of the network. You can't now dismiss hundreds of days of that contribution by saying, effectively, "you didn't get many Network Points," when that metric was introduced halfway through Stage 2.
And blaming my connection is particularly weak. I accumulated 1.6 million Uptime Points across 520 active days. If Grass believes my connection was unstable or my software outdated enough to justify a $2.61 reward, then provide the data: connection history, bandwidth actually routed, utilisation before Epoch 11, utilisation after Epoch 11, and exactly how both point systems were weighted in my allocation.
I don't have an issue with USDC. I don't expect Grass to reward hardware I chose to buy either. Neither is the complaint.
I'm happy to accept a $2.61 result if Grass can transparently demonstrate how 520 days of contribution produced it. That's what I've been asking for.

Im sorry expectations were not met because it sounds like you invested a little bit into some hardware and additional resources. Ideally Grass is great for those who run the app on the device they typically use day to day. Since you are already paying for the resources to use that device, Grass is taking advantage of that. If you didnt get a ton of rewards with your setup it's likely because you didnt get many network points. This can happen due to not updating the app and/or not having a stable connection for Grass to use!
Lets not forget, Grass is actually providing value for something big companies are already taking from your internet via sdk's (can be in things you download like screensavers, apps, etc) without rewarding you for it.

This will be a trash project that loses investors due to the indiscretion in providing information about the Airdrop for which we have been waiting for a long time and sacrificing devices for a year and the rewards you get are not enough to pay for public toilets, it's a shame you will be ruined if you don't change the point system to be wiser.

Because Grass runs quietly in the background of your device, you hardly know it's there so you can go about your day like you normally would. If you are curious on how to earn more for the next round of rewards, Id recommend keeping your app up to date and having a stable connection to the internet!

Hey! Apologies if your expectations weren't met! Grass had about 6.2m users to reward based on their contributions to the network (uptime/network points). If you didn't get what you expected it may have been due to a low amount of network points, they had the higher conversion rate to USDC.

Love the commitment with all of your devices and I understand the frustration. Your referrals may have earned more than you because their network may have been used at a higher rate than yours (network points).
One of the key factors that influences network points is keeping the app up to date, maintaining a stable connection, and using a preferred device type like an Android device!

It sounds like you are referring to a lower than expected allocation which I can imagine is frustrating. If you look at your allocation tab youll see how many total rewards there were to distribute and the number of users expected to claim them!
I understand your expectations may not have been met but Grass is actually providing value for something big companies are already taking from your internet via sdk's without rewarding you for it. Your bandwidth is sitting idle so you might as well take control of how that gets used and get something in return!

Rewards for Stage 2 were based on both uptime and network points. Depending on how much you got of each, that influenced the rewards you get. Those who got more network points tended to get better rewards! I hope that explains it!

In case you weren't aware, Grass has already rewarded users for providing their unused bandwidth during stage 1 of development. On October 28th, 2024 Grass rewarded over 2m users with 100m Grass tokens which was the most widely distributed airdrop ever! We're currently in stage 2 which is all about building the key infrastructure needed to achieve an internet scale web crawl powered by millions of users (isn't that pretty cool?)
In case you were curious stages are major development phases of the Grass Network focused on democratizing public web data accessibility. Each Stage advances through network achievements rather than defined timeframes, containing many Epochs that progress from building core infrastructure to implementing comprehensive web crawling capabilities.
Although stages can take some time theres nothing easier than running the Grass app on your device as you go about your day to day activities. Most of us pay for bandwidth that we don't end up using so you might as well rent some out to get compensated for!

Various companies over the last 20 years have been using your bandwidth without your knowledge, and profiting it from it. Grass gives the user the ability to share that bandwidth and get compensated for doing it. Every day at 00:00 UTC, we run a daily calculation process that temporarily resets your points on the dashboard. During this time, we calculate your true Uptime & Network Points from the backend and add any Uptime Points earned from referrals. Your overall updated Uptime & Network Points will appear within 12–24 hours once the process is complete.
*It is completely normal for your points on the day prior to fluctuate while these calculations are occurring*

In regards to your resources being used, many of us have bandwidth that we pay for and don't use all of. You may or may not know this but companies have been using your excess bandwidth for the last 20 years without your knowledge and not paying you anything for it. Grass gives you some of that control back and you get compensated for it when the stage ends. Since you are already paying for those resources and dont use all of them, you might as well knowingly rent some of that out!

The Grass Foundation recently had a token holder/network participant call on November 24th which provided updates on where things are at! I would highly recommend checking that out. Hey! All good questions. Grass points track how you contribute to the Grass Network and are used to calculate the rewards you earn for those contributions. Grass Points are divided into two types that capture both the availability and usage of your bandwidth. When it comes to rewards, you'll be rewarded at the end of the current stage as Grass completes its roadmap for capturing the web. There actually isn't a direct conversion for points to tokens so you'll have to wait until the stage concludes to see what your allocation will be!

I typically run it when I'm doing work on my MacBook and then when Im traveling It runs in the background of my android device when I'm on cellular (great to earn on the go). first off it wants me to connect a wallet why simply... Can't I just put in a wallet address and select which network.like Ethereum Solana etc feels very data intrusive there's no option. Also, my VPS shows up in Canada running around 1.3gbs speeds upload and download average.... How comes there's no option to set up with vPs? Also, is there any actual liquidity in your coin?

Wallet connection is important to you can be rewarded! Grass runs on the Solana blockchain so you'll need to make sure you use a Solana based wallet like Phantom, Solflare, etc. Connecting a wallet doesn't require any of your information and it's totally anonymous so theres no intrusive aspect. In terms of VPS, Grass requires a residential connection so VPS would not be compatible. Lastly, you'll want to check out the various exchanges that $GRASS is listed on to check out all the details regarding that!
