This site is full of time wasters I've…

This site is full of time wasters I've been on here for ten years. They press like and then don't want to swap even though they want my area and I have a decent house. Newspaper sends matches with people who do not even want my area. It's so annoying.

Absolutely terrible clunky dated website. Awful to use, near impossible to upload a picture without a total palaver and the messaging system is dated and slow to update. Please sort this website out already it's stuck in 2008.

Fisher Price website with zero support.
You have to use this website because most social housing tenants have to use it as do most landlords. The website functionality is dire and the support is non-existent where you email your query to then have a ticket number created and nobody gets back to you. You telephone corporate and complain - nope you have to email and they don’t appear to care.
The site pixelates the photos, notifications take hours to email you and there is no app for iOS probably because they can’t be bothered to maintain one as the website itself isn’t well maintained.
In my situation I paid for access for the year to find that the site not only didn’t honour it but still requested access from my landlord despite having paid them and unchecking the box so to not share details. Any better support simply because you paid? No, you’re in the same place as everyone else.
The idea behind it is good however it’s a terrible site with terrible support. Just like the only public toilet around. You don’t want to use it but you have to. What a shame.

Complete automated email failure and zero customer support for months

If you need to reset your password or confirm your email, good luck. For months, I have been completely locked out of my account because HomeSwapper's automated system completely fails to send verification or password reset emails. I have checked every folder, and nothing arrives.

Worse still, their customer support desk is entirely non-existent. I have sent three separate help requests over the last few months and have been completely ignored.

As social housing tenants, many of us rely heavily on this platform to plan essential moves due to health or changing circumstances. For a service that housing associations pay into, the total lack of basic technical functionality and support is unacceptable. I have had to escalate this to my landlord just to get a response. Completely unfit for purpose.

If you read my review properly, you would see I explicitly stated that I have already checked every single folder—including junk and spam. No emails are arriving. My email provider is working perfectly; your automated system is what is failing.

Telling me to "try again" after I have already sent three emails over several months that went completely ignored is not support. If your team genuinely aims to reply within 5 working days, then a total lack of response for months is a massive system failure.

My landlord, Abri Housing, has now had to log this as an official service request and is contacting your corporate account managers directly to bypass your broken helpdesk. Look up my logs and fix the account manually instead of sending automated copy-and-paste replies.

UPDATE 30/06/2026
Predictably, yet another week has passed, yet another email has been sent, and absolutely nothing has changed. All I have received is another generic automated reply. I now have two active case numbers completely ignored by your staff: #00410562 and #00409334.

To make matters worse, HomeSwapper support actually had the nerve to tell my landlord (Abri Housing) that my account doesn't exist on the portal. Meanwhile, your actual registration system actively blocks my email addresses from creating a new profile because it says they already belong to an existing account. I have sent screenshots of this blatant backend database glitch directly to Abri so they can see the loop I'm trapped in.

Stop replying to reviews by treating tenants like idiots telling them to "check their spam folders." Of course that is the first thing anyone does. My inbox is completely open, your automated case numbers get through perfectly fine, but your system fails to send verification links and your human support team refuses to look at the logs. Fix the database glitch or have a manager manually override it.

Customer support does not respond to…

Customer support does not respond to emails and contact form messages on the website. I have been waiting for 2 months for support because I cannot log in. The site does not send me any notifications or automatic emails for change of password. I cannot change my password as is required by them.

Don’t give up !

It has taken a couple of years but that is due to finding the perfect home for us , Don’t give up looking even if like us it takes a couple of years

Been on here for over 5 years

Been on here for over 5 years. They send “matches” but it refers to a match of what you’re looking for and not what the other people are looking for !!! I emailed homeswapper about this and got no reply! It’s just a way of keeping you occupied thinking if you persevere someone will swap! Absolute rubbish site !

Hello, we are sorry to hear that you haven't been happy with your matches. We can confirm that all matches are reciprocal, meaning they take into account the requirements of both tenants. Matches will always meet the essential criteria, including the correct number of bedrooms, property type and preferred area. However, if there are differences in any of the optional or preferred features, the match will be assigned a score of less than 100%.

If you would prefer to view only exact matches, you can do so by applying the "100% Matches Only" filter.

We hope this helps clarify how the matching process works.

Appalling and frustrating experience…

Appalling and frustrating experience for 5 months I’ve emailed about not gaining access to my account. I reset my password and still won’t allow me access. I reset again and doesn’t allow me. I reset again and doesn’t recognise my details. 5 months of email and never had a response. I need access!

This is the message I get: Password reset unsuccessful

The token has been either used or expired, please follow the link to reset the password

I not got nothing saved password wise and outlook is not issue. I have received emails from you before and now not.

I need access! Help!

Homeswapper Account Useless

The Homeswapper website is useless it doesn't work properly. When I messaged them about this they slyly blocked me from getting any notifications or messages. So not only is HS technology rubbish but they are very unprofessional and untrustworthy.

Avoid! Total waste of time and money.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I am beyond frustrated with HomeSwapper. I tried to subscribe to a 3-month membership using the PayPal eCheque option provided directly on their website. Even after the payment cleared (which took 6 working days), I was still locked out of my account.
Getting hold of anyone is a nightmare. I tried three different methods: their contact email via PayPal, the customer service email on their website, and their online contact form. It took 5 working days just to get a single reply. After weeks of "back and forth"—with every single response from them taking another 5 working days—I was told they don't actually accept PayPal eCheques. Why is it an option on your website if you don't accept it?
Customer service is absolutely useless and incredibly slow. I’ve had to open a refund dispute through PayPal just to get my money back. As of right now, they effectively have NO WORKING PAYMENT options and zero urgency to help customers. Save your sanity and look elsewhere.

I think there are very few genuine…

I think there are very few genuine people on there perhaps wanting larger homes, and this is the only way this might happen. However most of the people on there are time wasters, very rude about the area you might live in and just nosy. If they want parking spaces, and a luxury home, work and pay private. I have had two swaps via this site, and have come to realise there is a reason they want to move …. Neighbours from hell each time. Don’t forget you might be dragged into a multi swap in a completely different county? Baffled?

Hi Coral, we're sorry to hear that you're finding HomeSwapper frustrating and your previous swaps have had issues. We obviously can't control how members behave outside of HomeSwapper, but please be assured that there are thousands of tenants who swap for all kinds of positive reasons (e.g. to be nearer family and friends, closer to work, downsizing to save on bills, etc) and issues after moving are thankfully very rare.

A good site to use

A good site to use if you are looking to move. However, you do get alot of time wasters on there which is not in the control of the Homeswopper Team

That said, we have introduced a number of features to help address this, including measures that penalise users who don’t respond to messages and tools that make it easier to identify accounts that haven’t been active for some time.

I'd give it zero star if i had the choice. I Paid a 3 months membership weeks ago and still can't get access to my account or read/ reply.
Ten (ish) complaints but got nothing .
GUTTED.

I been like a lot of people on…

I been like a lot of people on Homeswapper, trying to move into a bigger home for years, so far its been a nightmare. Trying to move, they say they have new matches. But I and probably many others have found you will find you none of them what your area. Its so annoying, and also noticed people can be really fussy, you show them what they are looking for and they still turned you down. Or you have the ones who are just looking. And there are ones who don't answer you back. Me personally think if you just looking, then why are you on here. Doesn't how many people are interested in their properties, no one will be good enough. This is are only chance to be rehoused, we can't afford to go private, as for our councils and housing associations have no intentions in helping the British people, they more have intentions in helping the none British people, which is a disgrace. We were here before them. I haven't sitting in my own front room in amost 7 years as it taken over by son. I been stuck in my bedroom for since 2019. My bed is damage and very uncomfortable to sleep on, reason being I got nowhere in my bedroom to sit. I don't see the sense in trying to get a new bed, it will only go the same way the one i sit and sleep on. I know I am not alone. I feel me and my children will never get a move to bigger home. My back and whole body is killing me. 😢😢if you take a look in our messages you will be amazed how many people have turned us down. I follow your tips and advice and nothing. There too many time wasters. I saw property who want a move 10 minutes away they want to move to and still not interested. They wanted a 2 bed flat on ground floor. Which i have and still turned me down. 😣😣😣

While we provide matches based on your criteria, we unfortunately can’t control who responds, declines or whether people are actively ready to move. However, we have added several tools/features to discourage "timewasters".

If you haven’t already, we recommend speaking directly with your housing association or council about your overcrowding and any medical impact, as additional support or priority may be available.

If your in a flat your screwed

If your in a flat your screwed. Everyone wants a palace with 5 star busters to wait at them, it’s stupid. I think we would all love houses but realistically you’re not going to get them, there’s nothing wrong with flats so stop being selfish. If people are going to be too picky or be a time waster they shouldn’t even be on the site, they should be removed. The time wasters as well saying “oh I’m interested” then never act get back to messages after months of communication or even immediately. Some don’t have pictures so don’t know what your looking at, the matches aren’t really matched so that don’t help, some don’t even read the as and messages you from the middle of no where, just a waste of time at that point really.

We regularly prompt members who haven’t uploaded photos to do so but in the meantime, you can also filter your searches to show only homes with photos.
