Simply pop your lights into position and use the mapping function on the Twinkly smartphone app to ensure the layout is synced to your phone. Once they are mapped, plug the device into any USB port (e.g. computer or plug socket) within a 10m distance of your lights. Not quite what I hoped it would be, as in a plug and play device. So didn’t get it set up this Christmas - one for next year. It’s a streaming / synchronizing device for the lights but you need an external music player and source, obviously - which was too much faff this year.
