Premium Chicken Wood Chips 70Ltr Reviews

Hardwood Chips for Chicken Runs – 70L Bag of Premium Poultry Bedding Keep your chicken run dry, clean and fresh with our New Poultry 70L Hardwood Chicken Chips – a practical, natural and long-lasting ground covering designed specifically for poultry care. Whether you're managing a small back garden coop or a larger poultry enclosure, these hardwood chips for chicken runs offer the ideal balance of hygiene, drainage and durability. Crafted from 100% virgin hardwood, these chips are robust, untreated and free from bark and softwood fillers. With chip sizes ranging between 4mm and 39mm, they form a stable, absorbent layer underfoot that resists breaking down – providing effective coverage for up to six months before a top-up is required. Unlike bark or softwood mulches, hardwood chips do not compact as easily, meaning they maintain good airflow and help prevent soggy, muddy conditions. This is essential for the health of your chickens, reducing foot problems and controlling odours in wet weather. These versatile chips can also be used beyond the poultry run – in garden borders, pathways and even natural play areas – thanks to their long-lasting, decorative appearance. Key Features Ideal for chicken runs and poultry enclosures Made from 100% virgin hardwood – natural and untreated Excellent drainage and moisture absorption Chunky 4–39mm pieces – slow to break down Helps reduce smells and mud Long-lasting – typically 6 months before topping up Supplied in a convenient 70-litre bag Suitable for use in other areas such as play zones, pathways and borders How to Use Spread the hardwood chicken chips at a depth of 5–10cm across the run. Add new chips when patches of mud begin to show through. Frequently Asked Questions What makes hardwood chips better than bark or mulch in chicken runs?Hardwood chips are more durable, provide better drainage, and are less likely to break down or become compacted. This helps keep the chicken run cleaner, reduces smells, and prevents muddy conditions. Are these hardwood chips safe for poultry?Yes. Our chips are made from 100% virgin hardwood and are completely free from chemicals or additives. They’re safe for chickens, ducks, and other birds. How long do these chicken chips last?On average, they last around six months, depending on weather conditions and the size of your flock. You can add more on top as needed to maintain coverage. Do they help with odour control?Yes. Their absorbent nature helps soak up moisture, which significantly reduces ammonia build-up and unpleasant smells in the run. Can I use these in other parts of my garden?Absolutely. These hardwood chips are also suitable for use in pathways, borders, natural play areas and other decorative landscaping applications. How many 70-litre bags do I need for my chicken run?One 70-litre bag will typically cover 1.5 to 2.5 square metres at the recommended depth of 5–10cm.
