Day Skipper Theory Course
Day Skipper Theory Course - easy to book and course structured well with very good content. Easy to follow at your own pace. The online assessment was good and the feedback from the assessment was excellent. The assessor asked me to take a look at a couple of questions where I’d made charting errors and then she reviewed photos and explanations of my corrected charts and gave helpful feedback. Would recommend.

Essential course materials never received and disappointing resolution
I paid £275 for NavAtHome’s online RYA Day Skipper theory course. Although I received access to the online course, I never received the physical theory pack containing the training charts, almanac, exercises, plotter and dividers. These materials are essential for completing the navigation exercises properly.
I accept that I did not report the missing pack immediately. I run a business and had not yet started the course, so I only became aware that it had not arrived when I finally had time to begin studying. However, I do not believe this changes the basic issue that I paid for materials which I did not receive.
When NavAtHome contacted DHL, DHL was unable to confirm the actual delivery location from the GPS coordinates. There was no delivery photograph, and DHL stated that it could not guarantee where the parcel had been delivered. At one stage, a different address was also referred to during the investigation, which caused further concern.
Despite there being no clear proof that the pack was delivered to my home, NavAtHome relied on its condition requiring non-delivery to be reported within 14 days and told me I would have to pay for another theory pack.
I found this response extremely disappointing. I was not asking for a refund or anything additional; I simply wanted the essential materials included in the course I had already purchased so that I could complete it. In my view, where the courier cannot establish where a parcel was delivered, the customer should not automatically be expected to bear the full cost of replacing it.
The staff did reply politely and contacted DHL, but the eventual outcome left me unable to complete the course unless I paid more money. Based on my experience, I would advise prospective students to check immediately that every part of the course package has arrived and to report anything missing straight away.

Hi Mark, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We do appreciate your frustration with having not received your course theory pack and please be assured that we have made every effort on our part to conduct an investigation into the location of the missing items.
Given that your order was placed in January and the issue was not reported to us until May, there was very little in the way that DHL could do to conduct a thorough investigation after such a significant time delay.
As you have pointed out; DHL did refer to a different address in their correspondence however, this related to the same area coordinates as your own address and after nearly five months after having delivered the items, it was not possible and quite unrealistic for them to retrace the route and drop off point which their driver made to achieve greater accuracy.
The DHL policy is that issues such as this should be raised within a reasonable time period of 30 days. Our own policy is that we should be advised within 14 days. Within this time period, a more thorough investigation could have been conducted and we could also have provided you with a replacement theory pack.
As part of our initial correspondence with all newly enrolled students, we do always ask for the theory pack contents and receipt of the course registration email to be confirmed for this very reason.
It is disappointing for us to receive such poor feedback as we do work hard to deliver a high quality standard of service. However, in this case, with the given circumstances and limitations, we are sorry that we were unable to provide the outcome which you had hoped for.

I completed their Online Yachtmaster / Coastal Skipper course. Good online platform with quick and responsive instructor support. The content is thorough and well presented. Assessment process works well and they offer very quick online feedback and support throughout. Some good additional materials in Radar and Weather booklets. Strong emphasis on Navigation
