Avoid — Engine Failed on Day One and They Ignored My £1,999 Refund
Faulty car returned, but promised refund is overdue
My experience with Northern Car Centre has been extremely disappointing. The Peugeot I purchased suffered an engine failure on the first day and was returned to the dealer.
The dealership agreed in writing to refund £1,999, requested my bank details and confirmed that payment would be made on 7 September 2026. As of 9 September, no refund or transfer confirmation has been received, and my follow-up message has not even been read or answered.
I have now started pursuing the matter through my bank. If the dealership continues to ignore me and the refund is not paid, I am prepared to take formal legal action to recover the money. I will also publish relevant screenshots of our correspondence, with all personal and banking information removed, so that my experience is properly documented.
This review reflects my own documented experience, and I will update it if the dealership resolves the matter.
---- UPDATE ----
UPDATE – 15 September 2026:
I have now received the £1,999 refund from Northern Car Centre.
I’m glad the money has finally been returned. However, the refund was received more than a week after the date they had confirmed in writing, and only after my follow-up messages went unanswered and I started a debit-card chargeback with my bank.
The car developed a serious engine problem and lost power on the motorway on the first day. The dealer later confirmed that there had been an injector issue and agreed to refund me.
I have updated this review to confirm that the refund has now been received, but the delay, lack of communication and amount of effort required to recover my money made the overall experience extremely stressful.
