Dear Manager,
I cannot remember the exact date
I am writing regarding an incident that occurred a few weeks ago at the Wolverhampton South gym. I have been a member, on and off, since the gym opened, and I feel disappointed that I have had to raise this matter formally.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., after completing my workout, I went to the men's changing room to shower before work. There were around five other members present, including two people known to me.
A female cleaner was working in the shower area adjacent to the changing room, which is open to the changing area itself. Throughout the time I was there, she had a mobile phone in her hand. I cannot say what the phone was being used for, but its presence caused concern given that members were changing and some were in various states of undress, including wearing only their underwear.
One member told me that he had already asked the cleaner to leave so that he could use the shower. I then asked if I could shower as I needed to get to work. The cleaner replied that I "had an attitude." Another member was also told he would need to wait until she had finished.
After waiting approximately five minutes, I asked again whether she would be leaving. She muttered something in response and still had the phone in her hand. Frustrated by the situation and conscious that I needed to get to work, I moved her cleaning equipment outside the changing room. She raised her voice and told me to stop. I raised my voice in return and stated that I needed to use the shower. She then said she would get the manager, and I replied that she should do so.
A few minutes later, the duty manager attended and asked what had happened. I explained the situation and said that I needed to finish showering but would attend the office afterwards to discuss the matter. The manager agreed. To be fair to her, she remained professional and simply asked me to lower my voice, as I had become upset and frustrated.
After showering, I went to the manager's office. Before discussing the incident, she asked me to leave the office door open. I questioned why this was necessary when a cleaner had been allowed to remain alone in the changing area while carrying a mobile phone, but I did not receive an answer.
During our discussion, I explained my concerns:
A member of staff should not be carrying a mobile phone in a changing room or shower area where members are undressed.
Carrying out cleaning at what is clearly a busy peak time for members wanting to shower before work seemed inappropriate.
I asked whether it would be considered acceptable for a male cleaner to remain in a female changing room under similar circumstances.
When I asked what action would be taken, I was told that the manager would speak to the cleaner.
Looking back, I acknowledge that I became frustrated and raised my voice. I regret that and feel I could have handled my own response better by going directly to management rather than allowing the situation to escalate. However, my concerns about privacy, dignity, and the handling of the incident remain.
What disappoints me most is that several weeks have now passed and I have received no follow-up, no explanation of the gym's policies, and no indication that my concerns were taken seriously. As a long-standing member, I feel let down by the lack of communication and the way the matter was handled.
Unfortunately, this experience has led me to cancel my membership.
I would appreciate a response addressing the concerns I raised and explaining what steps, if any, have been taken following this incident.

Recently joined in January, the gym equipment has improved, cleanliness is outstanding. PT Luke & staff are dedicated to ensuring the gym equipment and areas are immaculate. Highly recommended as gym.

The gym is very basic and lacks atmosphere. The work out areas are ok, but could be improved by having private divided areas of space as all open plan. The showers are scalding hot in the womans changing rooms and burned me, massive health and safety issue, also no locks on them. No tv you can watch while working out, looking at frosted glass is not great!, I will not be returning. Found it depressing atmosphere. It was quite and plenty of parking space, that is the only decent thing. The gym could improve from better equipment and creating better work out areas, where people have more privacy and promotes more motivation.

This is a great gym with a good availability of equipment - I use the treadmills most times and its good I am always able to get on. The reason for only 3 stars is the showers. I find the water temperature is fairly OK most of the time but could be a bit hotter. Also the flow of the shower water is weak and not a strong flow. A good experience in the shower after a workout is an important part of my Pure Gym experience. This is most important especially in autumn and winter when the weather is a lot colder - and a good shower is essential at this time of year. I am happy to pay for increase in membership prices if the showers can be improved to what they are at the moment. If the showers are improved as I have described, I would definitely give 5 stars

I’ve been a member at PureGym Wolverhampton South for a while now, and while I appreciate the friendly staff and convenient location, I’m really disappointed in the equipment quality. We pay a lot for our memberships, yet many machines feel outdated and worn down. It’s clear that an upgrade is desperately needed to match the cost we’re putting into this gym. I hope PureGym invests in better, more modern equipment soon—members deserve it given the premium price.
