I have been buying Thorner's pies from Mole Valley for years and for me they have always been good value for money, tasty and the meat has always been tender.
Recently I bought a Steak & London Pride Ale Pie and my family were very disappointed. The pastry and gravy were good as usual but the steak was very disappointing, it was very gristly and fatty

Ordered Christmas Glazed Ham for 2025.

Cost £59.99 and was meant to be able to serve 8-10 people.

It was 2.4kg with the bone in.

Ham was tiny, nowhere the size of Ham you would have expected for that many people and at that cost!

And the experience buying it was less than ideal as well.

When we ordered it pre-xmas the guy at the counter was really unsure what hams they had to offer and referred us to the brochure (should have just walked away at that stage).

The brochure had a whole ham for £119.99, that would feed 16-20 so we expected half a ham for the £59.99.

Would be lucky if it was a 1/3.

When we picked it up, it was in a sealed box and the guy behind the meat counter had obviously had a very bad day (should have opened it then and there and said no thanks)

Opened the box in the carpark to just make sure it was ok, and then returned to check that it was actually what we had ordered. (said guys day had obviously got worse in the short amount of time we had been out of the store)

And to add even more insult to injury the Ham wasn't even made by John Thorners butchery, they buy them in from another company.

So we won't be buying a Xmas ham from Thorner's ever again.

Suggest you don't either.

While on holiday, and having read on your website that you had a butchery on site, I travelled from Wells to visit your shop in Pylle this morning to hopefully buy something for dinner this evening. However I was totally appalled by the fact that ALL your meat on the butchery counter was vacuum packed in plastic, not looking at all fresh and appetising, and there didn't seem to be anyone I would consider to be a butcher in sight. Such as disappointment and hardly environmentally friendly. Needless to say I did not buy.

I live in Devon so can't comment on the farm shop. But, I do buy their pies In our local Mole Valley Farmers. Anyway these are an outstanding staple in an ever changing world of shrinkflation combined with wildly exaggerated price increases. Well done for maintaining your standards.

I picked up my first Thorner's Christmas meat order this morning. On arrival I was pointed at the collection point, where after less than 10 seconds of waiting, was escorted to another part of the store. My box came out a few minutes later. Staff were helpful and cheerful and I was in and out in under 5 minutes. The shop redesign is fantastic. A lovely cut of meat too. Excellent stuff!

This seemed like a good retail website with reasonable prices so I placed an order on 18th December, expecting 48hr delivery by DPD.

However, AFTER they had taken my money I was informed that I could expect delivery 7th January next year. regardless of all their blurb about rapid courier delivery.

Over THREE WEEKS to deliver 120 miles. I thought DPD used vans and trucks. I didn't realise they delivered door to door on foot.
