Zenva is a great resource for learning from the word go. Easy instructions for not-so-easy concepts, combined with a platform that is not obtuse, make it a premier option for beginners.

Because I'm certain it matters, my studies have focused on Godot, so I can't speak to everything else the site offers.
My experience with the Basics of Godot course and 4 mini games course was quite good. The instructor clearly laid out what they were doing, step by step, explaining the basics as they went. The mini games were extremely basic, each focusing on a different concept, which is exactly what you want when starting off.
I loved this is contrast to my experience with certain youtube videos, and a course on Udemy, which involved them trying to teach so much at once, which lead to them rushing over a lot of foundational topics. I found myself simply copying what the instructors in those videos were doing, but not fully learning WHY I was doing what I was doing. These early Udemy courses were not like that, and I was loving it.
However, after finishing those courses, I went on to the first course for Mobile Games, as I want to create some fun little mobile apps with it. That course recommended I take the basics courses I had already taken. Cool. However, then the problems began. It felt like a solid 75% of the course was just poorly rehashing concepts from the beginner courses, which, hey, fine, I suppose I can use the refresher, though not for the majority of the course. Way too much time wasted setting up a simple game that should have been maybe 20% of the total course, not the bulk of it. There wasn't nearly as much time spent exploring and explaining the mobile specific concepts. Want to know about anchoring and resizing for mobile displays? Well, they talk about some of it, but I felt like that should have been a huge focus, something to explore and understand. A lot of the time, when it came to understanding what you were doing, the instructor would just direct you to use Godot's built-in reference material. Don't get me wrong, definitely useful to be taught how to access that material, but when it comes to what I'm being taught, I would prefer the course I'm paying for also teach me with their own clearly presented explanation. None of this was helped by the less-than-great audio of this new instructor.
Then I got back to the old instructor with another course on the basics for turn based rpgs, and while there was a bit of rehashing older concepts, I felt like we were starting to race through some newer concepts without really covering the why. It felt more and more like I was back to the Youtube/Udemy tutorials that just have you copy what they are doing, with minimal explanation, or rushed explanations. Once again I started to feel like I was just copying without fully understanding.
I feel a lot of these online instructors miss the point of actual courses, and focus too much on letting the students experience "results" as quickly as possible. You could just post the sheets of code for a game and let me copy it all down, and in a way I suppose I will have "made a game," but I didn't learn HOW to make a game. I want courses to take the time to explain concepts with more depth. As it stands, oftentimes I feel I am being given a concept and getting a brief explanation as to why, but what I would love is for the concept to be explored so I can think of all the possible ways I could use it. I hope that makes sense. I don't feel like taking the time to going over a rough draft of this review just to make sure I've perfectly explained myself. After all, I'm not an online reviewer being paid by people who expect a certain level of detail and quality (this is my frankly lazy attempt to give Zenva a little guff).
Look, I don't hate Zenva, and I'll be sticking with it (I'll update my review if things change). When it comes to learning Godot in a course-based format, I think it is probably one of, if not the best resources out there. Unfortunate that just isn't a super high bar to clear, in my experience. There is still plenty to learn, and hopefully as I continue on through the courses, things will all come together. But for a site that really pushes itself as being more professional, a lot of these courses can end up feeling a bit amateur in their structure.

I learned many basic things about prompt engineering through this course. I have been using AI to gather information, but I realized that I have not yet mastered it well. I would like to actively utilize what I learned in this course and make use of it in order to make game production more efficient.

Great byte size courses. The additional AI support is great.

A lot of the content is near low quality. Some of it is good, but many of the courses on this website do not have skilled teachers, and confuse me often. I talk specifically about the game design courses, there is little teaching skill involved there. The technical content is great though, and the knowledge stored in the videos are fine, but the teaching is just awful. A bit expensive as well.

I used Zenva for its Godot game dev courses.
The courses are diverse (RTS, RPG, Survival, Open World, Character movement basics etc.) and easy to follow, bite-sized so beginners can easily follow and build the project right while watching the video. If in a different environment (not able to watch video, not able to listen) one can read the course as well, all are provided as video and in text-form. This makes it also great to skip back to read up on details.
Material for courses is provided as necessary. Don't expect any polish though, you will have learned concepts and technique but your finished project will look like crap. This is good however as it incentivises you to keep working on it to make it even better, more complex, more fun, better looking. I regularly found myself working on a 1 hour basic game that was already finished, just to add just that one more game-mechanic.
Lastly, the prices are fair and the website is structured clearly and functional. This is the best online game course site I have yet found. Will definitely continue learning here. <3

Great site and just the right amount of explanation in the courses. I like the quiz feature and I like when the instructor gives the student tasks to complete independently. You tube videos or other sites basically just code and you frantically type to follow along.

When I read the review by an autistic person with ADHD, I was skeptical but decided to give Zenva Academy a try. But, after I started taking the Generative AI academy courses, I realized this is, indeed, worth the $80 a year subscription (I think there was a discount). I now very much know how to create a custom GPT on ChatGPT, I know a lot more about prompt engineering than I did before taking the first course in the series, and I also now understand Python Turtle. Though I have taken numerous courses on Python, what has made it difficult for the knowledge to stick is the lack of a project-based approach, which isn't an issue here. The alternation between lessons and projects helps out a lot, and so does the fact that you're made to host the code on your own, whether it be Replit or your local workstation. However, the best part has been how approachable the material has been. It makes no assumptions about you, as the student, it only teaches what needs to be taught without the feeling that you're being babied.

got thru humble bundle and had an issue with the keys, customer support was super helpful and got my courses to me within 2 days. Good courses on godot, giving some nice fundamentals through practical projects. better than udemy imo, and pairs nicely with devlogs and other online learning content

Edit: I was off on the price, it was about $10, but the review still stands. The list price for each course is $50 and the quality isn’t near worth that. It’s not even worth the subscription they push on the site.
I bought a bundle of the Unreal Engine learning “courses” from Fanatical for about $20 before looking up anything about the site itself. The actual quality of the courses are extremely poor. They say they’re updated for 5.3, but so far my experience is they either don’t feel like it or have a small note saying they STILL contain deprecated functions but you can still try it that way (I’d rather just follow free youtube tutorials that I know will be up to date. Thank you) I’m glad I didn’t actually spend list price on ANY of these, because they aren’t anywhere near worth it. If I could, I’d demand my $20 back from this, because the whole thing just feels like a scam and a waste.

For someone with ADHD I can say you guys at Zenva nailed it. Short lessons with just the right amount of information to keep me engaged and not feeling overwhelmed.
Honestly, the first degree took a bit of effort from my part.. but once I completed it with the reward of a functional game, it was hook and sinker.
I've completed 17 courses by now, with that said I have to say thank you so much with the effort that you guys put into the lessons and the method of teaching. I've wanted to learn code forever but just could not begin to understand the basics and blamed myself for it, so again THANK YOU!
What I would still like to see in the courses (if its there and I overlooked it I'm sorry) would be how to make a game design document, this will help me concrete in the tasks that would be needed to complete my one day dream game. I get overwhelmed easily then give up but feel with that knowledge and direction I can actually achieve that dream.

At the moment I find the tutorials very helpful. But I would really like to learn about skills that relate to programming that are not programming. For example, Game Dev has programming but it's not only that. There is also Art. I would really like to be able to learn skills like pixel art and music making so that i am able to create games and not just program them

Antwoord van Zenva
The lessons are fun and straight forward. However, I would like if they would put more advanced lessons and courses, rather than beginner to intermediate courses. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Zenva, but I feel like they should make the site more welcoming to advanced programmers instead of just intermediate to beginner programmers. Also, the godot tutorials are a little outdated, but if you’re fine and can have the patience to find the exact problem you are having, then I’d say go for it! Overall, Zenva is pretty awesome, especially for aspiring developers. With its consistent sale events and amazing lessons, there’s no better time other than now to get into coding!

I'm pretty pleased to have found a place where the courses are so deep into the details for understanding the basis; most places just give you recipes "for doing things" . I'm so glad to have found Zenva.. I hope all courses are so well done as the one I'm right now taking with Daniel :)
p.s. you might consider a lifetime suscription... I got mine with a great discount!

I took a short but very effective day night cycle for unity tutorial. I liked as it was compact, very clear, step by step explaining easily why to do each step.

When I'm trying to learn a new skill, one thing I absolutely hate is 40+ hours of content split into mammoth videos.
I like education straight to the point, so I can learn something and apply it. That's exactly what we're getting here.
If you take one of the mini-degree or academy courses, each lesson builds on the other. You'll do some repetition, but it doesn't feel like repetition for the sake of repetition, it feels more like repetition for the goal of enforcement.
Peoples learning styles are different. What suits one person might not suit another, but for me the courses that I've taken with Daniel have been fantastic.
Bought the annual membership. No regrets.
