Since I only use propane for a stove it had been quite a few years since I had to have our propane tank refilled. I had read the reviews and dreaded making the call since we used to just get a bill in the mail. I had never set up an online account and I did not know the account number or the phone associated with it. I called The local number and talked to an AI assistant for a minute and they put me through to a real life agent here in the states who actually was worried about the hurricane that was hitting the panhandle. She found my account in minutes and ordered a fill up and took care of everything, including showing me how to set up my online account. Despite all the negative reviews about the customer service bI was reading. I think they have turned the Customer Service ship around at least that was my experience very pleased.

Made an agreement to rent a propane tank in 2021, the pick fee for leased equipment was $69 then done with tank. On Oct 2026 i asked them to come get the unit they billed be for $529.56. The customer service rep said the terms might have changes and she would get me a manager. After keeping me on hold for an hour they said they couldn't do anything. Terrible place to do business.

Worst company I have ever dealt with over many decades. Every facet of their business is horrible. Customer Service is non-existent, attention to customer needs not a priority, significant call center ops were overseas and lacking basic understanding of the industry, and hidden fees on top of their premium steep pricing in a commodity market is ludicrous. They acquire small local suppliers across the country and subsequently drop their big organization upon you with the crushing weight of a huge greedy corporate bully. The numerous comments on social media tell the sad stories of frustrated customers held hostage with no recourse but to surrender.
Company name is a misnomer. It should be an acronym for:
A- AWFUL
M- Merciless
E-Exhausting
R- Reprehensible
I - Ignorant
G- Grotesque
A- Arrogant
S- Shocking

Based on my abominable experience with them, I strongly discourage using them as a reputable and dependable propane provider.

I cannot say enough about how awful this company is to work with if you need to speak with someone. I have a simple question that is not answerable from the self-serve menu and need an answer to make sure that i do not double pay. I am currently 26 minutes deep ON HOLD. I GIVE UP..........................

They are overpriced and have terrible customer service. They refused to work with me during a construction phase where the tank had to be removed for safety reasons. Instead of putting the account on hold, the account was closed and I was charged not only for the yearly rental but twice for the tank pick-up and a cancellation fee. I will not be going back to Amerigas for my propane service. I do not recommend Amerigas.

I'd give minus 10 stars if I could. Amerigas presented a bill for physical disconnection, which they did not do when I moved. They dropped the charge after much to and fro. Now they are charging me for gas consumed by the new homeowner based on a meter reading 10 days after I moved. Getting through to them is like pulling teeth. I am about to warn them of legal action Are they racketeers? Money launderers?

After consulting, AmeriGas reviewed my claim and reached out to me and agreed to settling the dispute. Thanks.

Customer service is dreadful, it's been this way for several years.
I don't write reviews but have to as they've messed me about for the 5th time. This time, my gas ran out, despite a delivery just 3 months ago (normally it lasts 6m). I've called, they know it's empty and have done nothing about it. I guess they just want me to call, spend hours on hold with their team, and then charge me an extra $300 for an expidited delivery so i'm not without hot water for 5 days.
Use someone else if you can

AmeriGas is a horrific company to deal with. Call them and you’ll expect to be on hold for over an hour. You can request a call back but it’s the following day, or next, or next. Miss that call and you start over from nothing. Or get disconnected, same thing. They may, or may not, show up for a fill. They tack on “extra”charges to accompany their inflated fuel prices (over 25% more than the local propane provider): Hazmat, delivery fuel surcharge, paper billing, use of a credit card…). I switched to a local company and AmeriGas wants to charge me $299.98 to have them pick up THEIR tank. Well good riddance. They have caused me headaches for, literally, a couple decades. Enough is enough. They will gouge you anyway they can as they charge premium prices for a service that makes you wonder how they stay in business. Too bad I had to give them even one star.
Update: I have been advised by AmeriGas of an additional $119.99 “technician charge” to have someone pick up their empty tank. Doing business with this company will cost you way more in the short, and, long run.

Had a billing dispute/ error so I called, waited on hold for 45 minutes. Was told my account would be credited. Couple weeks later, they said I still owed them, called again and after 1 hour and 35 minutes of phone time and speaking with a rude supervisor, was told again it was taken care of. Two weeks later the billing department called and said my payment was past due, but they couldn't help me with the dispute and that I needed to call the main number again. After waiting on hold for an hour because call back times were for four days later. ...found out the supervisor lied to me and had actually denied the credit that was supposed to be applied to my account. Then they said they would send me to a collection agency and if I canceled my service rhey would charge an additional $300.00 to remove their equipment off my property. Rude and incompetent staff.....I would give them zero stars! DO NOT CHOOSE THEM FOR PROPANE SERVICE!

Amerigas has horrible service. I have been trying to get rid of the propane tank since April. They are refusing to pick it up because they would need to reimburse me the amount that is still left in the tank. I call each week for it to be removed.

I was a renter, called them, told the company no service is needed. Was told to lock the tank which cost me money, since then have received invoices that I owe money. The cost is to lock the tank; now am told I will continue to receive a bill until new people come in and get it in their name. If that doesn't happen soon, another bill then come October a rental fee for the tank they are telling me I am responsible for. I was told tank should have been removed, ok do that, of course another fee, it will be close to 600.00 to not have to deal with this company! Was on the phone 2 hours 3 minutes with no resolution a bigger headache. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO MY WORST ENEMY! GO ELSE WHERE, if you are looking for propane. I should have done a better job looking at reviews.

When my last tenant left our rental, an AmeriGas employee came out and locked my propane tank. The propane in the tank is paid for and belongs to me as the property owner. I gave no permission for AmeriGas to trespass on my property and lock the propane. In addition, they are trying to charge my former tenant an unauthorized charge of $240 for locking my tank. In order to unlock the tank they want to charge me AGAIN. I called their resolution team and got nowhere. Now I’m switching propane companies.

don’t go to Amerigas. when their equipment fails, as it did for me on the coldest day of the year, their technician doesn’t even bother to check to make sure the frozen pressure regulator is working before leaving you still in the cold. Then they charge you $350 to remove the Rusty tanks and crappy pressure regulator. Never trust these people.!!

About a week ago, I called AmeriGas to refill a propane tank that has been in the same location since our home was built and has been refilled numerous times by AmeriGas. Suddenly, it does not meet “code” and needs to be moved before it can be refilled. They promised to call us back, but no-one has called us back to schedule a move and customer service (at least the people that I need to cancel my service and remove my tank) will not answer the phone. They claim to be all American based service desk now, but to be honest, this is the first time I ever wished their service was based overseas where at least someone would answer the phone that could actually help me. The only phone calls answered so far turned out to be the “retention” people and they immediately transferred me to another hold each time I have called them, which is what I am listening to as I am typing this message. My wife and I have been on hold for hours this week. Both of us have been transferred numerous times and I have even requested a call from management both on the phone and via chat (which is useless by the way). The chat person said that I cannot talk to a manager that way and that I must go through the holding process. We have now decided to hire an electrician to install power for an electric range rather that work with AmeriGas. My Electrician will be here this tomorrow, as will my electric range, but still nothing from AmeriGas about my propane tank removal or service cancellation. Terrible company with terrible management. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Follow-Up: After hours waiting on hold to finally speak to someone, I was told that it is going to cost me over $500 to have two small propane tanks disconnected and hauled away. No idea when that will happen, but I guess I will have to pay. Ironically, these tanks originally belonged to "Rural Gas" based on the label and were here when I purchased the home. They are not even originally tanks owned by AmeriGas. Additionally, they are so old that there are no gauges on the tanks and the tanks needed to be relocated anyway because they were installed in violation of code, which is why they could not refill them in the first place. AmeriGas should disconnect and haul them away for free. In the mean time, I am taking pictures of the tanks while they are installed to turn over to the county since AmeriGas wishes to claim ownership of the Tanks as if they installed them.

AmeriGas has policies that take advantage of their customers. They have scams like, “prepay and get a cheaper rate”. Only to find out that cheaper rate is no longer available and they won’t return your money. They filled our tank even though we told them not to because we were buying our own tank. They tried to charge us for tank removal. They left the tank on our property for an extended period until I threatened to sell it for scrap metal because it was abandoned. They have been known to leave the tank and try to continue bill for it even after the property owner told them to pick it up. They charge an extremely high rate for Propane and play games with the prices. Don’t ever do business with them.

AMERIGAS IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS ARE RUDE AND NASTY. MOST OF THE COMPANY EMPLOYEES ARE FULL OF LIES, DECEIT. ONE THEIR EMPLOYEES. (MR SELVIN CASTELLANOS) A TERRITORY SALES REP, IS VERY RUDE AND NASTY,AND A LIAR FOR THE COMPANY. THEY CAN'T EVEN KEEP SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS WITH CLIENTS THAT THEY MAKE. VERY VERY POOR QUALITY SERVICE.

This is a warning to any new customers wanting to purchase propane from Amerigas.
We have rented a tank on a yearly basis for 26 yrs. After doing some research I found to fill the tank was going to cost $299 dollars or $3.15 a gal.So I decided to discontinue their service & go with our local company Ed Staubs. Their cost to fill the tank was $167.00tank $2.59 gal no rental cost first year rent $120.00 vs $149-$134..
After countless time spent on the phone, hours before Amerigas answered. I have a $420 bill to remove their tank. Plus a copy of my husband’s death certificate before they would close my account. I have been paying bills for 10 years my husband has been gone for 3 years.
I find this to be so outrageous. BTW Ed Staubs removes their tank for free . no charge.
There is no recourse. Buyer beware.

I would like Trust Pilot to start with -1 then 0 and 1,2,3,4,5 because AmeriGas deserves -1. They seem to thrive due to monopoly. The tanker came 4 weeks ago and left without filling the tank saying there was enough propane. Then I got an email informing me that my tank reader is faulty showing wrong reading that is why the truck was dispatched. So far so good. That is it. Never did they contact me about fixing it. I called on Monday and was told Monday was busy day so should call later, so I called on Wednesday and was told to take a spot to get the call back. Did that, then I was told I should talk to CS and made me wait 28 min. Then CS guy said there was no ticket put in the system to fix it. Then the CS said they will open a ticket. I wanted to talk to the manager he said please hold and the wait time is 59 minutes. If I had checked their online reviews, I would not have bothered to call them. My mistake. This company is nothing but garbage surviving on monopoly. Will try to dump them and get a local company that is more responsive.

Hopefully people read this review. Everyone that’s writing a review. You need to file with your States Attorney or Pa attorney. I just got off the phone with NY Attorney General office and I was told more people need to file claims against them for doing the same exact thing over charging and blind siding customers with ridiculous fees and long wait times to speak to customer service that isn’t helpful in the least. The more they get the more chance of a class action lawsuit against them. They are bullying customers into paying these fees and essentially stealing propane you already paid for by charging these astronomical fees and then only paying you what you paid for the propane and not the going rate at which they will resell it. AmeriGas customer service claims these fees are because of high government regulations but that’s a lie based on Attorney general telling me unfortunately the propane industry isn’t a regulated industry.
