Arrived and on arrival told the room…
Lanzarote Playa Blanca - Arrived and on arrival told the room would be ready, four hours later we still haven’t gone into our room, we are now late in to the room, the whole day wasted and staff seemingly not bothered or remotely considerate … computer says NO! Not a good experience at all and really not a nice way to start the holiday at all ……
Think twice before booking directly through Barceló.com
I am sharing this experience to warn other travelers about the risks of booking directly through Barceló.com and the extraordinary difficulty of getting assistance when something goes wrong.
I attempted to book two hotel rooms at Occidental Vigo. The first transaction appeared to fail, so I tried again. I received one confirmation email for my intended two-room booking. However, the hotel's system apparently received both booking attempts, resulting in four room reservations and charges for two rooms we never used.
I never received a second booking confirmation and had no reason to believe the first transaction had succeeded.
Despite explaining this repeatedly, I have been passed back and forth between the hotel and Barceló's central customer service department. The hotel has ignored multiple emails, and even my formal written escalation to Barceló Hotel Group headquarters has received no response.
This is not simply about a duplicate reservation. It is about a company that apparently allows a booking to reach its hotel without successfully confirming it to the customer, then takes no responsibility for investigating or resolving the consequences.
Booking directly should offer customers greater confidence and support. My experience with Barceló has been precisely the opposite.
I would not book through Barceló.com again and would caution other travelers to consider alternative booking channels.
Very Poor Customer Service!!!
Stayed at the Occidental Royal Level in August, we had a few complaints, the main one being a shard of glass in my food that ended up in my mouth, luckily I identified the issue and managed to spit it out.
We submitted a complaint online, followed by an email explaining further, we received a response albeit not too satisfactory. We emailed several times more to a specific person and have never received responses.
I submitted a complaint to Barcelo Hotels Group, followed again by an email and again we have been ignored. Customer Service does not exist with this company!!
I would not recommend booking with…
I would not recommend booking with Barceló. For the reason my flight from Albany NY to Barcelona was canceled do to weather conditions. As soon as we found out our flight was canceled our travel agent called to cancel the booking. With the time difference between the US and the Mediterranean they said it was to late and would not cancel or refund our money. The Barceló group truly cares about the money and not the customers experience.
If I chose to return to Barcelona I will not stay with Barceló. I have reached out to them twice via email weeks ago and they have not responded or acknowledged either of my emails.

Stayed at barcelo beach Costa Teguise…
Stayed at barcelo beach Costa Teguise booked delux room with hot tub looked nothing like the photos room was tatty strange layout photo showed hot tub on the balcony ours was in our room it only had 6 jets which was completely pointless used once didn’t both again balcony ( ground floor ) very very close to sun beds around the pool so very noisy and lots of ants and even a cockroach food hit and miss champs bar good but again food was ok or awful lack of information when checking in but it was midnight pools good infinity pool steps into it didn’t have a handrail so didn’t feel safe for me to use other guests had said the steps were a little slippery no idea how it’s a 4 star hotel grounds well looked after good position close to the beach short cut the the beach through champs bar expected more for the price
The Barcelo Santiago Tenerife lovely hotel
The Barcelo Santiago Tenerife is in a lovely location with beautiful views of the Los Gigantes and the ocean. Our room was clean and comfortable, no complaints, the shower was great and never lost pressure or heat considering the size of the hotel. Three good sized pools, 1 of them heated, again no complaints. We were fortunate to spoil ourselves and book a Balinese sunbed for the week which again was fab. The food has been to a very high quality and the domestic and waiting staff polite. So why the 4 stars - the outside Breeze bar. Food was excellent and generally the bar staff have been polite but what has let this hotel down is the poor service during the night entertainment (which has also been very good). Tuesday night, we waited for over an hour for our drinks and had to chase them up. On Monday, a staff member walked away and ignored us when trying to place a drinks order. The bar is poorly managed, staff taking drinks and meals to wrong tables because there is no system, or if there is, it's not working. I don't blame the staff, the work with a poor system and possibly not enough of the. It might help to give all tables numbers, simples! It's a shame because overall without the poor service from the Breeze Bar I'd have given 5 Stars.
An expensive hotel in need of refurbishment
We holiday regulary and only stay in 4 or 5 star hotels but the Barcelo Hamilton hotel fell well short and left us feeling ripped off.
The "chrome" fittings in the toilet of our junior suite was akin to a rough public toilet. The metal railings/ bannister of the main hotel stair was corroded and looked as it hadn't been painted in years.
Parts of the hotel is very tired and at circa 450euros/ night, we felt ripped off!
I prefer to give a company a chance to resolve any issues rather than writing a bad review online but the dismissive response from the assistant GM was that they were within "operational standards"!
Barcelo Tenerife Swimming Paradise
Location: Very near the airport. Planes flying over from 6am-11pm. Personally we like to see the planes in the sky but not everyone has the same opinion.
Swimming pools: There are about 7 different swimming pools. The first two days we discover them. The one near the sea is more busy, there is one very un-deep for kids. Adults only with salt water and one near the Breeze bar, our favorite. There are signs that its not allowed to reserve sunbeds but i experienced to take your sunbeds around 7:30-8:00am to have your place. After (late) breakfast all seats are occupied. Half of the reserved beds are not in use, the staff should manage this.
There are dedicated smoking areas but there is no control by the staff, several people are smoking at the sunbed even some near the breakfast place outside.
It's possible to use the kayak only in between 3pm-4pm, most of the time too hot. We did it on a cloudy afternoon, it was nice but too short since more people wanted to use it in between the 45 available minutes.
The Aperol Spritz bar is not included in the all in price, extra €5 to pay but the Aperol Spritz in the other bars are included and good quality
Rooms: We had a standard room for two people. It was big enough. Daily cleaned with a view near one of the swimming pools. The bath in the bathroom is not need for adults since it takes some place. Maybe good for small children.
Traveling with 3 adults is with a not comfortable sofa bed for the third person. Therefore we booked an additional room for the third adult for extra €400.
Royal Level: The price for Royal level was €300 extra each person. We did not take it. There is a dedicated royal level swimming pool, Aperol Spritz bar and special area in the buffet.
San Blas Environmental Reserve is located in front of the hotel. There is only access in between the hottest hours of the day (12am-6pm). We wanted to do it during the cloudy day but refused to pay €8 each person. Maybe it's worth to do out of the summer months.
During the check-in it was communicated that the hotel has digital information. The application doesn't worked (it was not possible to sign in), the information displays where not in service.
Conclusion: We traveled with 5 adults in 3 rooms in the middle of September coming from Belgium by plane. We paid €1200 each person, €1600 for the one adult in separate room. The All-inclusive have good bars with good beer, soft drinks and cocktails. Lunch is possible in the restaurant or near the swimming pools with hamburger and French fries and desserts. Dinner with good wine in the buffet restaurants. One voucher for one of the a la cart restaurants where we had a very good Italian diner.
I made a total review of our experience with some details as positive feedback. I really recommend this hotel for family and friends
Hamilton Hotel in Es Castell, a lovely locality
Hotel in lovely locality, lots of restaurants nearby and a fiesta in Mahon helped make this a very relaxing, fun holiday. It was restful, which was exactly what we wanted.
The adult hotel was comfortable and the bedroom spacious and cleaned well. The staff were lovely, especially Victor, Celia and Naomi, who were particularly helpful and took time to check out information for us. The hotel had noted we were celebrating both a birthday and a wedding anniversary during our stay and cake was delivered to our room on both occasions.
The pool and the whirlpool facility on the rooftop were great, but lacked sufficient parasols and shade and nobody attempted to stop the use of towels to reserve a sunbed. It meant anyone arriving at the pool or the bar upstairs at 9am, when the facility was not expected to open for another hour, had no chance of securing a sunbed with shade by the pool or even a sunshade on the rooftop.
Marianna, the masseuse was excellent The Hamilton massage was a real treat for both my husband and I.
Currently stopping at the active resort…
Currently stopping at the active resort and still here no way would I rate this a 4’ star we arrived to cockroaches in our room but to be fair we were quickly moved the room did not look particularly clean either and there were lots of little ant insects around the bathroom and all over the sink. The room we got moved to was clean but could really do with a lick of paint there are a lot of the parts of this hotel that appear run down. Food has been great in my experience plenty of choice. Pool is clean but could do with more supervision during the day there are lads drinking beer in the pool people smoking on their loungers stupid ball games where other people especially with children don’t want to get in the pool because they are getting hit or constantly splashed all for people having fun as I am not that person but when it spoils it for everyone else in the pool that’s not great. No one to stop them. The bar and snacks around the pool is excellent only having one bar in the evening with the entertainment outside doesn’t quite work have been 2 nights with massive queues with only 2 staff behind the bar not their fault management should be better organised when you know you have a busy hotel,
Weather has been gorgeous despite the amount of swearing and very loud when there are families with young children around using F bomb and C Bomb. The pool and around the pool is clean but beware you can’ t get a sunbed before 9 all roped off until 9am for all those early risers out there. Not a 4 star experience in my opinion.
We stayed in Barcelo Raval hotel for 3…
We stayed in Barcelo Raval hotel for 3 nights. We had read bad reviews about the area but i think as long as your not stupid and look after your belongings the area isnt bad. We didn't encounter any problems around the hotel. The hotel itself was great. Great staff from reception to bar, security and breakfast was lovely lots of choice ane plenty of options i would definatly recommend this hotel. Fantastic views, pool only little but it did the job. Overall would definatley recommend this hotel and would definatley return if going back to Barcelona again as also very central.
I recently booked a stay at Barcello In…
I recently booked a stay at Barcello In Rome, when booking the reservation I accidentally put 4 adults instead of 3 in which charged me and extra person and an extra breakfast plan.
I realized the mistake right away and tried to correct the booking. When I called I was given a form to fill out go modify the reservation,
I then received an email specifically specifying that what you booked was what you will get.
I was very disappointed as I only asked them to provide a credit at the hotel for the discrepancy and they made no attempt to correct the problem as the specified that the reservation was non refundable.
I have been in the travel industry for many years and this situation concerns me as hotel chains pride themselves on customer experience and unfortunately at this point in time the company doesn’t even deserve 1star.
I hope that my experience at the hotel is better than the customer service that was provided by the customer service team at Barceló resorts.
A terrible experience and an even worse response afterwards
I have stayed at Barceló properties in different countries before, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing.
I booked Occidental Atenea Mar in Barcelona expecting the standard I had previously associated with Barceló. Unfortunately, the first room I was given had a strong damp/moldy smell and was simply not somewhere I was comfortable staying. I raised the issue and was moved to another room, but I had similar concerns there as well.
What really turned this into such a bad experience was how the situation was handled afterwards. Instead of feeling that someone was genuinely trying to resolve the problem, I was left feeling that my options were essentially to accept what was being offered or pay extra for a higher-category room. I was not prepared to pay more simply to get a room I felt comfortable staying in.
Eventually I gave up, left the hotel and booked another property in Barcelona at almost double what I had paid here. I would rather spend more money than ruin my trip staying somewhere I was uncomfortable.
Agoda became involved directly and spoke with the hotel by telephone. The conversation was recorded. Agoda ultimately refunded me 50% of my booking themselves despite my original reservation being non-refundable.
I then contacted Barceló Hotel Group directly and made a formal complaint. Unfortunately, their response was almost as disappointing as the original experience. I was told that hotel management had inspected the rooms and found nothing wrong, and that other guests later stayed in the rooms without reporting any concerns.
I found that argument unbelievable. If other guests were happy to stay there, that is entirely their choice. I personally will not stay in a room that smells damp or moldy. That is simply not my standard of living, particularly when I am paying for a hotel from an international group such as Barceló.
They also disputed my account of what was communicated to me, despite the fact that Agoda was directly involved and there is a recorded telephone conversation concerning the situation.
What disappointed me most was that Barceló's investigation appeared to amount to asking the hotel and its own staff what happened, accepting their version, and then telling me that they could not verify my complaint. As a returning Barceló customer, I expected considerably better.
At this point, it is no longer about the remaining money. I feel completely let down by the entire experience, from the rooms themselves to how my complaint was handled afterwards.
I will not stay at another Barceló property again. There are far too many excellent hotels available for me to spend my money with a group that made me feel this way after raising a genuine complaint.
Barceló Tenerife
Barceló Tenerife – Definitely Not a 5-Star Experience
Barceló Tenerife is now marketed as a 5-star hotel, but after our 10-night stay, I can honestly say we will not be returning.
The biggest disappointment was the food. The hot food was almost always cold, and on several occasions the chicken was still pink. The cold food was never properly chilled and was usually only at room temperature. By the last few nights of our holiday, we chose to eat out instead of dining at the hotel.
The swimming pools were tiny and absolutely freezing. Even the “heated” pool was far too cold to enjoy. The hotel is also in a very windy location, making it feel around 5°C colder than the actual temperature. The wind was so strong that sun loungers were blowing into the pools.
For a 5-star hotel, the service was very poor. Drinks were supposedly table service in the evenings, but during our entire 10-night stay we were only asked once if we wanted drinks. Every other night we had to go to the bar ourselves. At meal times we were only offered drinks when we first arrived and then were never asked again.
Our room was also disappointing. The sink plug didn’t work properly, leaving water sitting in the basin, the glass toilet door was coming away from the wall, and the beds were on wheels. Even with the brakes locked, they still moved during the night.
The pool towel system was another frustration. You had to collect and exchange towels from the hotel shop during opening hours. In every other 5-star hotel we’ve stayed in, there have been towel stations by the pool where you can easily swap them whenever needed.
The evening entertainment was very poor, and our two boys, aged 16 and 11, were bored for most of the holiday. There simply wasn’t enough to keep them entertained.
Another disappointment was the minibar. Having to pay extra just to have it stocked in a hotel claiming to be 5-star is unacceptable. Some staff members were friendly, but many came across as rude.
If you’re booking excursions, be careful. The representative at the hotel only showed us the most expensive options. After looking ourselves later, we found much cheaper trips that actually suited us better.
The surrounding area is very quiet and pleasant, but unfortunately there isn’t much to do. As this was our first trip to Tenerife, we left feeling disappointed and, sadly, it’s put us off returning to the island.
Overall, this hotel is all style and no substance. It looks impressive, but the food, service, facilities and entertainment fall well below what you’d expect from a genuine 5-star hotel. Considering how much we paid, I feel completely robbed and would not recommend staying here.
Beware health and safety issues. Do not go if using a walking aid.
We stayed at Barcelo playa Blanca in June/July for a week. Hotel is huge, near the marina, we went out daily several times throughout the day and the smell was always there, at times this made us feel sick. Food was poor compared with other Barcelo hotels, we have stayed in many in Canary Islands. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Smoked salmon was unusually, could not cut this. Food was Luke warm. Please be careful should you have mobility issues, reception area is big and long. Cleaning was taking place and no warning signs put out, my husband had a fall on the wet floor. Unfortunately I was not with him at the time. He was picked up and given water. I explained to the staff the importance of having hazard signs informing people of the wet floor. I was advised this would be followed up by the hotel manager to contact me as we were leaving in 10 minutes time. No telephone call or contact. I contacted the hotel 3 times before I had email from Camilla Conti Guest Experience Manager who advised health and safety team will be in touch over 3 weeks and no contact. My advice to be careful in and around the hotel when the flooring is wet.
Barcelo I will not return and hope you take health and safety more serious in the future. My emails was not about compensation this was highlighting there are health and safety issues a in the hotel and staff need more training, more so dealing with the public. During emails not once did Camilla ask how my husband was after a fall in their hotel.
NO WI-FI IN THE ROOMS AT OCCIDENTAL JANDIA PLAYA IN FUERTEVENTURA!!!!
I stayed at Occidental Jandía Playa during the first week of August 2026 and unfortunately experienced several issues that should not occur in a hotel belonging to an international chain like Barceló.
The rooms have no internet access, despite being advertised as offering Wi‑Fi. In 2026, this is a basic expectation for a 4‑star hotel and caused significant inconvenience throughout my stay.
Smoking was common across the resort, including pool areas, walkways, and bar terraces, making it difficult to enjoy the facilities comfortably.
Additionally, even though the pools were fully ready and in perfect condition before opening hours, guests were not allowed to swim or perform short training sessions, even under the full responsibility of an adult swimmer. Hotels with good customer service normally allow this, especially during quiet early‑morning times.
Barceló is an international brand, and guests expect consistent standards. These issues show that the hotel needs to do much more to meet the level of service and environment expected from a global hotel group.
Tengan muchísimo cuidado
Tengan muchísimo cuidado. Mi experiencia me tienen retenido $2.848.848 desde hace dos meses. Puse queja y nadie responden. Pésimo servicio al cliente, horrible experiencia! Estafa.
Fradulent Invoice and Online Harassment
I stayed at Barcelo Warsaw. The hotel was decent enough. But they have me an invoice with incorrect information. I contacted them to correct it, and they ignored emails, calls and complaint forms for weeks.
Finally, I posted a negative review on Google Maps and the company took the time to mock my situation through --I hope-- an AI response signed by Roberto Mateos, alleged director of Barcelo Warsaw.
It is at the very least a lack of common sense and customer service, at worse it is outright fraud.
