For over 80 years, the Browns of Richmond have been synonymous with automotive excellence, spanning four generations of our family. Today Browns of Richmond led by Tim are delivering better than main dealer customer service with a personal touch. Whilst we sell a full range of hand picked petrol hybrid and plug in hybrid vehicles, we are also used EV electric vehicle sales specialists and used Tesla sales experts. We have lots of used Teslas in stock for sale. We are also electric vehicle repair and servicing specialists and we focus on Tesla servicing and repair. We help people transition to their first electric car and are happy to help and advise our customers when considering the transition. Browns of Richmond are the biggest independent used Tesla specialist in the UK, normally stocking 30 used Teslas on site. Our journey began when Malcolm Brown, a Yorkshire native, arrived in Richmond in 1948 as a member of the Green Howards. Stationed in what is now known as the Garden Village Richmond, Malcolm's curious nature led him to become deeply involved in vehicle use and maintenance, particularly with the army trucks of the Green Howards. Post his military service, Malcolm transitioned to Richpack, located on Gallowfields Trading Estate, the very site where Browns of Richmond stands today. Richpack's utilisation of ex-army trucks for egg collection from farms across Richmondshire and the Great Ayton area further honed Malcolm's automotive expertise. His subsequent employment with the British Oxygen Company's transport department, ferrying oxygen to Spadeadam and Workington, underscored his lifelong dedication to the automotive realm. Following in his father's footsteps, Paul Brown, hailing from Holly Hill, Richmond, apprenticed at BOC in motor vehicle mechanics. His career intertwined with vehicle maintenance, alongside worldwide ventures in the oil and gas industry and domestic plumbing across the Dales during semi-retirement. Fraser Brown, Paul's son and the third generation, embarked on his automotive journey at 19, initially with main dealers before venturing globally with renowned manufacturers like Volkswagen and Audi. Despite his international experiences, Fraser's heart remained in Richmondshire, where he raised his family and immersed himself in the community, serving as a governor at a local school amongst many other things. Meanwhile, James, Fraser's brother, found his passion in racing old Escorts with his friend Martin in the Richmond Motor Club. In 2013, Fraser founded an award-winning Automotive software and Consultancy business in Richmondshire, operating worldwide and collaborating with local automotive experts like Steve Baker. Fraser’s son Matthew now helps out in the business on Saturdays. Fraser’s wife Lizzie Brown, born at ‘Westfields‘, Bellerby (daughter of Richard Mason), runs an English tutoring business in Richmond www.englishtutorrichmondshire.co.uk Award winning Co-founder and Director Tim Roelich has worked with Fraser in Automotive dealerships for the last 20 years and brings a huge wealth of knowledge. He has the combined knowledge of running large businesses alongside that of looking after customers as if they were family. My experience of Browns of Richmond was excellent. Your reception staff are very friendly and offered me a drink as soon as I arrived. I was then introduced to Lewis who took me to his desk and spent time answering all my questions (I’ve not had an electric car before and Tesla’s longevity in that market seemed like a logical choice to me). Lewis was very knowledgeable, explained the options etc. and at no point did I feel under pressure to buy anything. He then offered me a test drive which I took him up on. I have to see that within a few minutes of driving the Tesla I was sold and I told Lewis I wanted the car. Completing the paperwork was very straight forward and Lewis explained exactly what I was signing. The car was ready for me to collect when Lewis said it would be and I have been delighted with it ever since. If you asked me for marks out of 10 for my experience with Browns of Richmond, it would be a 10.

Impeccable service from start to finish – highly recommend!
I recently purchased a Tesla Model Y from Browns of Richmond, and the entire experience was absolutely impeccable.
A huge thank you to Lewis, who went above and beyond to look after me. He arranged for me to be picked up and brought to the dealership, which was an incredibly thoughtful touch. Once there, he patiently answered every single question I had, walked me through all the car's controls, and helped me smoothly get everything set up and transferred.
To top it all off, they made sure the car was fully charged before I left, meaning I didn't have to worry about rushing to find a charging station straight away. Brilliant attention to detail and top-tier customer service. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a seamless car-buying experience!

Browns of Richmond made the entire process of picking up my new Tesla Performance effortless and easy.
There were no pushy sales techniques, no forcing additional warranty’s - it was service with a smile putting the customer first. Alex dealt with my sale perfectly, without any issues. The car was prepared beautifully. I’ll definitely be coming here first for my next car.

After being let down by another dealer found a car with Browns. Ian was excellent from start to finish and after a long drive up to collect the car today made us feel right at home. Car exactly as advertised. Great price for a fantastic car. If your looking for a car especially an EV, these are the go to guys.

Very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Browns of Richmond.
From the outset, the vehicle preparation on a £19,000 Ioniq 5 was poor and not to the standard you would expect from a professional dealer. More concerning, however, was the lack of transparency around the service history. At the point of sale, I was not provided with any service records and was told this was because the vehicle had a “digital service history.”
After purchase, I took the step of contacting a main dealer to verify this, only to discover that no digital service history existed on their system at all. This raised serious concerns about the accuracy of the information I had been given.
Unfortunately, once payment had been made, any sense of customer care or support seemed to disappear entirely. When I raised these issues and attempted to reject the vehicle within 30 days, the dealership refused to accept this.
As a result, I was left with no real option but to sell the car back to them at a significant financial loss—an incredibly frustrating and avoidable outcome.
Overall, this was a very poor experience marked by questionable information and a lack of after-sales support. I would not recommend Browns of Richmond to anyone.
Damaged rear bumper I insisted on replacement prior to purchase, Odd tyres fitted to replace damaged michelin ones.
No digital service history shared with me until 3 weeks after purchase, one sheet of paper from halfords. I reluctantly accepted a substantial financial loss as I just wanted to cut ties with this dealership and walk away from this car.
The response to my review is exactly as I'd expected from them, Lies told to make me look like an awkward customer. I've only told the truth and pleased to get rid of the car and buy a brand new ev from a main dealer. I'd have struggled to sell it on privately with a few services from Halfords.

We've read your review and it simply doesn't reflect what actually happened, so for anyone reading, we'll set the record straight.
Your car was advertised with full service history, and that's exactly what it had. Three services were done on time, to the manufacturer's schedule, and we hold and shared with you the digital records from the garage that carried them out. We never described it as main dealer history, because it wasn't, and we don't say things that aren't true. When you enquired with a main dealer, their system showed nothing — of course it did. A main dealer's computer only shows work done at a main dealer.
As for care disappearing after payment — it was after payment that we replaced a bumper trim for a small mark you found a week after delivery, replaced a screen at your request and even swapped a tyre because you preferred a different brand. All free of charge, on a three-year-old car with 42,000 miles, and all well beyond what any dealer is obliged to do. We did it because that's how we treat people, we care about our customers.
There were no grounds to reject a car that was honestly described — which is why that couldn't happen, and you agreed. When you then asked us to buy the car back, we agreed, even though we didn't have to. You accepted the figure, we paid you, and we ran you home. You said you were happy, this was all done and concluded many months ago.
We're sorry you've chosen to describe things this way. Our other reviews speak volumes about how we look after people, and we treated you no differently — in fact, we went well above and beyond what any dealer would ever do.
We also note you have rejected cars with other dealers previously.
We genuinely care about customers and disingenuous reviews like this, done months after the experience are deeply upsetting to our team who put heart and sole in to customer service.
