Neal came out to do some painting around the house-- he was very punctual on both days he attended-- he is very pleasant and polite and took time to explain what he would be doing-he is a very tidy worker and left no mess whatsoever-- his work is first class and he also picked up on a few bits that I had not noticed and sorted them for me -- we are delighted with the service provided-- neal also took time out to speak to the dog -- 10 out of 10 for neal

I moved into a new Cala home three years ago. Overall, the sales and handover process was as you would expect: the site was well managed and completion was on programme. However, over the three years since moving in, a number of issues have become apparent.

Snagging and aftercare: Cala subcontract much of the work, so during the snagging process they largely act as an intermediary, passing issues to the relevant subcontractor, with homeowners then dealing directly with the trades.

Public areas: No effective lighting controls were initially installed for the public areas and roads, and it took over a year to resolve. This meant lights could be off when it was dark and on unnecessarily during the day. A number of trees died within the first year, and grass along the kerb edges has struggled to establish, due to the kerbstone bedding and insufficient soil depth.

Internal build quality: This is where I have been most disappointed. Internal sound insulation is poor, which appears to be a consequence of the lightweight wall and floor construction. Mastic around windows and doors has also failed and peeled away, resulting in draughts, but Cala declined to repair this under the warranty.

My biggest frustration is the corner beading used throughout the house. It appears to be paper-faced rather than the metal corner beading I would normally expect. After around two years it began bubbling and peeling in several places. It now looks very poor and is likely to require significant remedial work and redecoration to put right.

The bathroom extract fans were also very noisy, so we replaced them. When replacing mine, I discovered that one fan had not even been connected to the ductwork and was simply discharging air into the ceiling void.

Garden: The ground does not appear to have been adequately prepared before the lawn was laid, and the lawn quality has consequently been poor. While aerating it recently, I even uncovered a house brick beneath the surface.

There were positives during the sales and delivery process, but three years on, my overall impression is that some of the materials, detailing and workmanship have not matched the standard I expected from Cala or from a new-build home at this price point.

Martin has been an excellent support in solving various issues around our house. He was professional and respectful.

Had an amazing experience at Cala Homes in Finchwood Park with David Wilton. An absolute professional, with a fantastic personality and time to listen to whatever obscure questions we had to throw at him!!
