Now that we are back home, we want to express our sincere gratitude to Ms Wing Zeng, our Travel Consultant, for organizing our recent amazing Urumqi-Kashgar trip. We have been the clients of China Discovery (based in Chengdu) for years and this tour was the third tour with Wing. As always, we would like to thank Wing for her hard work on our itinerary and wonderful support while we organized our tour. Her knowledge and constant communication made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Every hotel, flight, transfer and all the activities went smoothly.
We would like to thank our local guides and drivers in Urumqi and Kashgar for their care and deep knowledge, patience, and great stories. They made every stop of this trip interesting and our experience unforgettable. We had a great chance to be introduced into the culture and delicious cuisine of the Xinjiang region and the people living here.

We (party of two) booked our Yangzi River cruise via China Discovery with the excellent support of Jack Li. Out of this positive experience we decided also to organize local private tours with guide and transport along our 15 days China trip.
Jack was always very fast responding and helping also when we had to postpone the trip on very short notice. He helped rearrange the trip on a new date.
All services were delivered with excellent quality, on time and corresponding to our planning.

I was fortunate to have consulted Yangtze River Cruises about a cruise from Yichang to Chongqing. They have an excellent easy to navigate website which is important as there are many options. From the word go I dealt with their agent, Samantha Peng. Her commitment to excellent service was evident from the word go. She was very well informed, her advice was invaluable, her responses were quick, clear and concise and friendly. The consequece of this was that the entire trip from the pick up at the train station was smooth and efficient. We booked on one of the smallest vessels, the Yangtze 1. One of the advantages of this is that it is small enough to use the boat lift up to the dam, a marvel of engineering and something we will never forget. We loved the trip and thank Andy, the cruise director, for his dedication to ensuring that we were always well looked after as we were the only foreigners on the vessel. Highly recommended.

Had a great trip to Beijing and Xi'an with China Discovery, we had fantastic guides who were very informative and we were very well looked after. The tour was very well run and would highly recommend using this company.

From the moment I first contacted this company by email to completion of the trip, they have been so supportive. They send links for overseas payments with the balance to be paid 6 weeks before. It’s all above board and trustworthy, go for it, it was the best experience of our China trip. On the day of departure, they even confirmed the pier for me.
We had a wonderful time. The cruise was so much fun. We were one of three European families on the cruise and English speaking Stephen, one of the crew, dedicated time to us to make sure we understood the timetable and checked on us everyday. Announcements on the ship were in Chinese and English. The ship’s accommodation and facilities were of a high standard.
Day 1 We loved leaving Chongqing in the evening whilst the lights were shining from the buildings, there was a party atmosphere. We danced with the staff and other guests. Great fun.
The food was of high standard and had great choice with free beer and good wine.
Day 2 at the ghost city was a wonderful tour, so well organised with electric cars up to the city with an English speaking tour guide. The show on the evening was cancelled as the extreme weather had damaged the facilities so we were given another trip to another city the next day.
Day 3 we visited an ancient city with an English speaking tour guide. In the afternoon the ship sailed down the gorges which was spectacular, like the fjords of Norway, breathtaking and Stephen translated everything into English, before we transferred onto smaller boats to go deeper into the pretty gorges, again with English speaking guide.
It was so well organised that we packed our luggage this day and delivered it to the foyer for it to be transferred to the cruise terminal in Yichang, so well organised
Day 4 we woke up early to have breakfast before being transferred to another ship to go through the 3 gorges dam ship lift. This was a real highlight. Then we had a tour of the dam area with an English speaking guide who took us around the museum there before being transferred for an hour to Yichang where it was easy to identify and pick up our bags. We got to Yichangdong train station by 2pm for our bullet train to Wuhan

We had a fantastic time on board, we made great friends and felt very welcome. This is a cruise I would highly recommend.

We are two travellers from Italy and we booked a Yangtze River cruise with this team for our trip to China in August 2026.

What impressed us most was the quality of the communication before departure. Wing, our consultant, answered every message promptly and in detail, anticipating the questions we had not even thought to ask. Booking from abroad, that kind of reliability is worth a great deal.

The cruise itself matched the description precisely. Comfortable ship, clean cabin, good and varied food, friendly staff, and shore excursions that were well organised and genuinely interesting. Sailing through the gorges gave us a perspective on China we would never have had by land.

Honestly, nothing we would change. We would use them again for another part of the country and we have already recommended them to friends planning a trip to China.

We did a 4 day private tour to Lhasa. Organisation was great from beginning to end. Jack was very responsive, the options were set out clearly, the permit was delivered to our hotel in Chengdu and the guide and diver met us at Lhasa airport and looked after us very well for the whole time. We were a bit concerned about altitude for such a short trip, but a slow steady pace ensured it was not a problem. The whole experience was unforgettable.

We fully enjoyed our trip to China in March of 2026, visiting Zhangjiajie, Chongqing, Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou. The highlight of the tour is the Yangtze River cruise. The scenery is spectacular. The trip was well organised, thanks to our travel consultant Samantha Peng as well as various tour guides and drivers. We definitely would use the service of China Discovery again, should we go back to China.

I booked over the internet, so it was a leap of faith. Would someone even show up at the airport at midnight to pick up my wife and I? My faith was well rewarded and more. It was perfect. The guides, the drivers, the accommodation and China itself. Superb!

We had an immensely enjoyable trip through China thanks to the super organising skills of Shirley and the team. We travelled from Hong Kong to Beijing with a 13yo and 18yo and every step of the way we felt supported, from all the pre-departure information (which was comprehensive and thorough) to the excellent guides and drivers.

Arriving in a new strange city is always daunting but the guides communicated well and met us right off the train. The cars were modern (and air conditioned!) and the guides were responsive to our needs and adapted well.

UNFORGETABLE & WOUNDERFULL TOUR OF CHINA
me and my wife planed to tour china last may2026. we wanted to see beijing-xian-guilin in this tour . we contacted 3-4 tour operators from china including china discovery . after lot of mails exchanged for the tour we finally selected china discovery. credit for this selection goes to ms. samntha of china discovery who regularly followed up with me , replied quickly to my mails & enquires, helped me in selecting the tour itinerary . she was quick to respond even beyond office hours and was very help full & patient with answering me each & every details i asked from her.
finally we had a unforgettable , wonder full tour of 9 nights & 10 days. all hotels , cars used for the tour , train, air tickets all was arranged & we had no problems what so ever. the drivers, guides were very professional, kind and ready to help us . actually the tour conducted so professionally that it was beyond our expectations.ms. samantha was in touch with us during entire tour . thanks samntha & china discovery for making our tour so excellent . we are looking forward for our another tour with china discovery next year again besides i have told my many friends & relations to go for china discovery as my experience was so good.

We had a fantastic trip to the Silk Road! Our travel consultant was extremely accommodating, knowledgeable, very responsive and professional. Our tour guides were also very knowledgeable of the history and customs of places we visited. They were very helpful and aim to please. Our tour drivers were very experienced and pleasant. They had to navigate challenging terrains as well as traffic jams everywhere. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend China Discovery!

We had such a great and memmorable experience. We had the Yang Tse cruise as well as 2 separate tours: Jiujaigou and Zhangjiajie. Every step of the way was well organised and seamlessly smooth. Really appreciate all Shirley Yang’s assistance with organising our Cruise from Chongqing to Wuhan June ‘26. We chose the executive suite after all information from Shirley and team. My husband loved it! It was our first trip to China from Australia. We had help via emails and advice until everything was sorted. Shirley Yang continued to update our details and check prior to trip and our disembarkation- with the transport transfer included in executive suite. You need to set up Alipay before you leave your own country. I also used trip.com mobile data for China mainland to always have access to emails whilst travelling. Everyone who looked after us on our trip was amazingly courteous - and thank goodness so many people are competent with translating apps if English wasn’t there. Our cruise assigned us English people to see to every need - we were so spoiled. Thank you Shirley and team🙏

I have used China Discovery in all 6 of my China trips & have found them to be so helpful & accomodating. By now, Mr. Wonder Wang, our agent understands our dietary requirements & will propose a suitable restaurant in the respective city. Hotel recommendations are also on point - always in a central location close to shopping streets. I love the flexibility of a customised itinerary, the services of the guides selected & seamless transportation arrangements made all my holidays with CD memorable.
I usually travel in an all ladies group & unfortunately we do not speak Chinese so, having a great agent deal with all logistics issues makes it breeze.
CD is reliable and I recommend their services to everyone.

What an amazing tour my husband and I have just had with China Discovery! 16 unforgettable days around Beijing, Yunnan and Shanghai, discovering the beauty of this unbelievable country.

Vivien, our travel assistant, was the first contact we had with the company, helping with planning and then assisting us throughout the tour: always caring, flexible, she understood the assignment and she crafted the perfect itinerary for us. We had a minor issue with a driver we didn't particularly like and she provided us with a different (amazing!) driver in just 2 hours time. Bear in mind that we were already on the road, so I didn't really believe this could be doable, but Vivien made it possible -and even offered dinner afterwards to make up for the issue. I believe this is where this company excelled, in my opinion: minor issues may happen when you travel, but the way you handle them changes the outcome completely. We truly felt taken care of!

Their guides and drivers are very high level: thank you Grace (Beijing), Tina (Kunming), Michael (Dali), Lobsang Gelek (Shangri-La) and Sandy (Lijiang) for making this trip extra special! These are people who are not just knowledgeable about their job: they go the extra mile all the time, offering extra tips, support to book extra activies, local knowledge to let you experience their cities and villages like a local would -and I find this priceless. In many cases we found not just guides, but real friends we hope to meet again in the future.

We will definitely book more trips with China Discovery: China is a country full of so much beauty (and beautiful people!) and it needs to be fully explored, possibly with the help of a trusted local organization. Sometimes there could a bit of a language barrier and huge crowds: we felt so lucky we could just relax and let our expert guides/drivers take care of us. I can't wait to see where our next itinerary with China Discovery will bring us :)

I seldom write reviews, only now and then when I am super impressed. Shirley Yang of Chinadiscovery (CD, Chengdu) and her staff are one of those people. We engaged them for two trips recently: one inside Guangdong (the GBA trip) for 2 wks in Nov of 2025, and the other in Mar of this year, an HSR trek from Chengdu to Guizhou, Guangxi, and Guangzhou, about 10 days.

A long-time California resident, I have traveled to China on and off for the last 50 years. My friends and I either joined one of the tour packages offered by local agencies or "private" tours arranged by friends here in Canada or in Hong Kong. So I seldom got involved in the mechanics of putting one together.

The last few years and the last few trips have been different. We planned the general outline of the trip (cities, places, sights, etc.) and then engaged a China-based agent to execute and to fill in the details, CD being one of the agents we worked with. The result has been exceptional. And I will not hesitate to use them again.

I shall mention only the key points: Prompt cross-ocean (cross-time zone) communications that you wouldn't believe - they don't seem to sleep; no language issue, Chinese or English; attention to detail and the prompt incorporation of the unavoidable iterations and changes; small groups of 5-9 not a problem; ... Of course, we also glean their expertise and suggestions to flesh out the final itinerary.

The attention to detail applied to the trip as well. Special needs and the inevitable unforeseen circumstances were handled promptly and professionally. Of special note is that we chose to pick our restaurants/menus, always seeking our guide's input, and I think that worked out to our mutual satisfaction. The proverbial have your cake and eat it too.

If there is a concern, it might be cross-border payment; the transfer of funds might encounter hiccups depending on your own banking situation, mainly because of some US sanctions in place. Not an issue with CD, but can be with other China-based agencies. Just a possibility, and it is nothing that cannot be overcome.

We did South China Tour in May with China Discovery and we were very impressed from day one, when we started planning the trip with Shirley Yang who was so supportive in all our requests and made a tailored trip to remember. Also the 5 guides (Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Kunming, Lijiang, Shangri-La) made the trip so smoothly, we never had any issues during this quite complicated tour, changing airplanes, trains, vans, hotels, quite an impressive accomplishment. Will recommend this company for their professionalism and quality, thanks so much!
