This was a great professional development. The PD was thoughtfully organized and very informative. The strategies to help students over come their math trauma were strategies that I have used before, but they didn't have the meaning behind them. Now that I have taken this course I truly see why it is so important to build these strategies without using math at first. Also, the Math Wars Method is amazing. I can't wait to start teaching the Math Wars Method in my 7th grade math classes this school year. The structure of the lessons and the constant formative assessment will definitely help with my struggling students and my classrooms as a whole. If you are looking for a way to help engage ALL learners, take this professional development. The modules were easy to follow, well organized and many notes and PDFs were provided. I was very excited to receive tangible/actionable activities to start with on day 1. I feel like this gives a base for every student to start from together and to end together with all students having confidence in themselves and moving forward.

I learned about Juliana Tapper through a free online summit for Math teachers. Her teaching intrigued me so I signed up for one of her free workshops. Then I bought her book. Then I reached out to her with some questions and was so excited she personally emailed me and suggested I look into her Math Intervention Accelerator course. It looked like something I could use so I signed up and worked through it over my summer break. What she has to teach is so practical and helpful for intervention teachers and mainstream teachers with students who struggle. After two years of teaching Math Intervention I felt discouraged and wondered how I would ever help my students make the progress I felt like they could make. I just didn't know what else to do. Juliana's course has given me a foundation of understanding why students struggle and equipped me to better meet my students needs going forward. Her training program has been invaluable and I'm grateful to have access to it.

This was a great course to help me learn and develop engagement strategies to ensure I am reaching all of my students. I've really been struggling with having a broad spectrum of abilities in each section of my course, as well as an overall apathy towards learning math. I am hopeful that the Math Wars and mastery based grading will be game changers for my math class.

I recently completed Julianna’s course on the BREAK Framework. While this program is designed for intervention, I see great potential in applying it to any student who historically struggles with math. I have high hopes for implementing these strategies in my own classroom this upcoming school year, and after completing this course, I finally feel I have the comprehensive tools needed to make that a success.

Julianna’s instruction validated my own teaching philosophy and reinforced my confidence in my current approach. More importantly, the course helped me round out some of the concerns I’ve had regarding my philosophy, specifically by challenging conventional wisdom regarding 'bad' teaching practices. She provided the research and practical connections to demonstrate how these strategies can be highly effective when used intentionally.

Specifically, she completely changed my perspective on cold calling and the policy of using a 50% floor rather than a zero. I was previously a staunch opponent of both practices, but her evidence-based approach shifted my viewpoint. I now feel fully prepared for a successful year ahead.

There is a lot of relevant information and the presentations address everything from planning, student buy in, presenting, grading and grade conversion. It addresses how to still help the students who end a unit with deficits.

Finding quality math intervention resources, especially for secondary students, has been very difficult over my 7 years of teaching middle school math. I wish I would have found this program sooner as it is top notch! I found that I was naturally doing pieces of this already so this course filled out a framework for me to really approach intervention classes methodically in a way that I know will benefit my students.

Powerful and Impactful. This provided clear instructions on how to help all math students. It is a multi-faceted and adjustable. I have easily implemented Math Wars and my students are enthusiastically focused. I intend to continue to implement strategies.

I really enjoyed my experience working with the coursework. I am not all the way done, but plan to complete this summer.
