Avoid in UK, the AutoFX fees are a blatant rip off
I've been with Degiro for over 5 years and I opened an account with Charles Schwab UK for the following reasons:
a) They lost my deposit. How can you lose a deposit? How is this even technically possible? It took me SEVEN months and OVER 100 emails to be reimbursed for this deposit. What a waste of my time.
b) Degiro UK customers can't have a subaccount in USD which means their AutoFX fees kill you. Example: Buying just 150 META shares costs over 200 USD with Degiro UK - the same purchase is SEVEN USD with Charles Schwab. What an unbelievable rip off. So in total a round turn of 150 META shares costs you at Degiro UK over 400 USD and 14 (yes, FOURTEEN) USD with Charles Schwab.
c) Customer service was always very responsive but I was also classified as a VIP customer with over 0.5m GBP in the account
Execution (buying/selling) was always flawless. But you don't have access to the extended trading hours, which means you can't buy/sell besides the main trading hours. Which you can with Charles Schwab. This is great to make money during earnings season.

I have been using DeGiro for over seven years in another country. I have never had any major issues, and when they rarely arise, the staff are very responsive. I watched the platform grow and improve in user interfaces.
Now, I have moved to the UK, and I am still using DeGiro and have access to major markets outside North America give me a lot of appreciation for the app.

Lost my deposit again!
Lost my deposit again! This is the third time this has happened. i have sent the information for them to check, including the screen shot that prooves the money was sent. It also has the transfer number. Yet, nothing..no reply, no proof from their side its been received. I have emailed, sent all the information theu asked for and no reply. I also called them. Terrible service!

Zero customer service
Really not great. There is absolutely no customer service. I can't withdraw money because it says 'insufficient funds' when there are funds, but there is no phone or even chat customer service available. A major drawback - and something for people to watch out for if intending to open an account with this company

Depending on your account profile, the amount that can be withdrawn is shown in the “available to trade” balance within the platform. As long as a withdrawal does not exceed this available balance, there is no separate limit on a single withdrawal.
While we do offer phone support, we do not offer a live chat service, our Servicedesk is available to help investigate situations like an “insufficient funds” message when funds appear to be there in your "available to trade" balance. Impossible to get rid of
Easy to use, and buying/selling most options works fine. However some of them you cannot sell yourself, and it's near impossible to sell them through email - which is what they want you to do. It's also impossible to close your account.
I've been trying to close my account and sell my options for the past 3-5 months, and still only get emails back with 'this order is too agressive, this order is too passive' I genuinely am happy to take my loss if it means I can be cut loose from this platform.

I probably would have given a 4*. What really put them back was the condescending of their staff. Its almost like they are doing me a favour by responding to my query.

Excellent range of shares to invest in.
The share dealing account is easy to set up and run. The dealing process is straight forward. Funding the account and withdrawing cash is easy. Tax free ISA accounts are not available for UK investors but the range of shares available is second to none in my experience. If you are having trouble buying a particular share, I'm sure it will be available on the Degiro platform.
