My experience has not been smooth

My experience has not been smooth, however I decided to leave five stars because when things went wrong Effective stepped up and talked me through the options. The whole customer service team was great from Rebecca raising my technical call to Steve calling me to help sort the system out. Barbara followed up with a call to make sure I was happy and advised me who to contact if I should need assistance in the future. Kira sent my paperwork in a timely fashion and when I was not sure about me seg application she explained the documents I needed. Things go wrong at times but I found all the staff to be very helpful.

Overall this should be a five …. But for a few tiny niggles.

The sales process was fantastic, supportive, helpful and patient. Go what we wanted but also suggested a few options that made for a much better outcome.

My concern, and it purely personal, is the comms between acceptance of the order, through the G99 process upto booking the installation could be more proactive. Even a regular email to say we are still working on getting everything order3:z

Scaffolding company was fantastic. And the installation team was beyond brilliant. Absolutely amazing group of guys!!

Most of the kit turned up in time - but due to a problem on the paperwork the wrong tile brackets where sent and they had to 4 hours for the replacement to turn up. Then there was a misunderstanding at their end on where the battery was going. It was VERY clear on the paperwork and survey. To the wrong cabling was sent out, installation team had to go and pick up from a local supplier ….

Overall - the installation was fantastic, everything explained, ridiculously tidy and polite. Can’t fault them at all.

So it’s a 4 …so close to a 5. We will be ordering an expansion battery and an ASHP and we will be going back to Effective for quotes

Formal Response – Missed Appointment, Ongoing Defect, and Mischaracterisation of Complaint

Thank you for your email.
However, I must express my serious concern regarding both the handling of this matter to date and the statements recently made publicly, which do not accurately reflect the situation.
Ongoing issue since installation
This issue has been ongoing since the installation in December 2024. Over this period:
Multiple plastic end caps have detached and fallen from the roof
Engineers have attended and fitted replacements, yet the problem has continued to recur
Further failures have occurred during normal weather conditions
The underlying cause has still not been identified or permanently resolved
This is not an isolated occurrence but a pattern of repeated failure of components associated with the installation.
Responsibility
While your communications repeatedly refer to manufacturer design, it is important to note that:
Effective Home selected the system
Effective Home installed the system
Effective Home certified the installation
Accordingly, responsibility for ensuring that the installation is fit for purpose, secure, and durable in normal environmental conditions remains with Effective Home. The suggestion that this is solely a manufacturer matter is not consistent with the installer’s obligations.
Missed appointment and communication failures
The missed appointment on 7 April is particularly concerning. I arranged my day to be available, yet:
No engineer attended
No call or email was received on the day
No update was provided until after the fact
This is not the first instance of poor coordination. There have also been occasions where:
Engineers did not attend as scheduled
Scaffolding contractors arrived without prior notice
Equipment delivery and collection occurred without communication
This has resulted in significant disruption and wasted time on multiple occasions.
Safety and impact
The repeated detachment of components from a roof-mounted installation continues to cause concern. Items falling from height present a foreseeable risk, and the ongoing nature of the issue has understandably caused stress and frustration, particularly given the length of time since installation.
Compensation
Your position that compensation cannot be considered because no financial loss has been demonstrated does not fully recognise the time, inconvenience, and repeated disruption caused. I have had to:
remain available for missed appointments
repeatedly correspond and chase updates
deal with unexpected contractor visits
These factors represent a material inconvenience arising from an unresolved installation issue.
Moving forward
I am willing to accommodate the proposed visit on 21 April, but I would request:
Confirmation that the attending team will carry out a full inspection, not simply refit caps
Confirmation that the root cause investigation will be undertaken
Assurance that I will be notified in advance of any related scaffolding or access requirements
Final point
I would also note that I attempted to escalate this matter to senior management, including the CEO, but received no response. This has contributed to the perception that the matter has not been treated with the seriousness expected.
I remain willing to resolve this cooperatively, but given the duration of the issue and the repeated inconvenience, I would expect:
A proper technical resolution, and
Consideration of an appropriate goodwill gesture once the matter is resolved.
I look forward to your confirmation regarding the visit and the steps that will be taken.

Very disappointing experience

I had a very disappointing experience with Effective Home.

I signed a contract with them on 31 March for the installation of solar panels and a Tesla battery on my property, which has a metal roof. The quotation explicitly included a £550 additional fee for the metal roof installation, and their agent reassured me that this was fully accounted for and that they were the better choice compared to another company I was considering. Based on that advice, I declined the alternative offer.

However, over a week later (9 April), after sending a surveyor to my property, I was informed that they are actually unable to install solar panels on a metal roof at all. This directly contradicts what was agreed in the quotation and what I was told during the sales process.

While they have offered to refund my deposit, the situation has wasted my time, delayed my project, and caused me to miss out on another provider who may have been able to proceed.

Overall, this experience shows a lack of proper assessment before sale and poor internal communication. I would advise others to be cautious and ensure full technical feasibility is confirmed before committing.

So i had 8solar panels and and 5kw…

So i had 8solar panels and and 5kw battery installed 1 year ago.
The install went really well no issues. When they set up the system I wasn't set to export to the grid. The system was checked by three independent people and all missed this incorrect set up.Meaning ive lost money for the last year.

In my opinion the system is too small, the battery is drained by 8pm meaning we are back on the grid when I was told it would be more than adequate for us.

Ive been trying to get in touch with the complains department for three days with no success. Ive emailed and left messages with several member of the office team and nothing in the way of a reply.

Installation was delayed twice and now no generation

Installation was delayed twice. Now almost three months after we have still not generated anything. I initially put this down to the poor weather we’d been having, but even after a week of sun there is nothing generated. I spoke to someone on 20th March and was told I’d get a call back from the technical team, but still nothing. I’ve called five times this week and sat on hold for 15 minutes each time until it prompts you to leave a message (which I have) then the call ends, but no one will answer.

I recently had my installation…

I recently had my installation completed by Effective Homes, and I couldn’t be happier with the whole experience.

The initial survey was carried out on time and was thorough and accurate, which gave me confidence from the very start. The installation itself was excellent — everything was completed to a high standard and with real attention to detail.

What really stood out, though, was the support throughout the process. Joy was fantastic from start to finish, always on hand to help with any questions or concerns. She was polite, professional, and genuinely cared about making sure everything went smoothly. She’s a real credit to the company.

Overall, a great experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Effective Homes.

Once again let down by Effective Homes

The only way to get any response from Effective Homes seems to be by posting here. This is now the second time I’ve had to write a review. The first time was because a “3‑day installation” ended up taking six months – and that was three years ago.

I now have another issue that’s been ongoing for some time, and once again I’m getting no proper response. I contacted their complaints department last week and still haven’t received a reply.

If you’re thinking about using Effective Homes, think again. Honestly, stay well clear.

We had a good survey/sale visit but…

We had a good survey/sale visit but were told the panels could not be connected to a sub meter which we have been told is incorrect. We have split phase electric supply and were told we needed two inverters. We heard nothing about for 3 months until we were invited to apply for a date by phone on a first come first served basis. The phone wasnt answered for 4 occasions and an hour of attempts but we did get through and booked.
Super fitters arrived with one inverter, told us this ok, and fitted in a few hours v efficient BUT fitted to phase supplying garage and alarm only so totally useless set of panels powering about 50 watts in the home. Feedback guys questioned about the fitting snd they asked tech support told all ok . Yet to be resolved despite inappropriate full payment.
The service is great in some ways - sales, texts, waste, dates once booked, but the tech planning and delivery is poor. So far..

So I had Effective Home install solar…

So I had Effective Home install solar panels, battery and inverter on 19 jan 26. It is still not working as on 20 march 2026.

I have made repeated calls to them and they have done nothing to rectify the problems. I have formally written to complain on 29 Jan 26 and still had no response.

I have asked them to remove their system and refund and no response . I have raised a complaint with HIES who work as a mediator and I await their response.

I have never known a company provide such poor service and lack of care to their customers.

Please do not consider this company Effective Home for you solar systems as they are only interested in getting your money as fast as possible and then running.

A Thoroughly Disappointing Experience.

We took up the British Gas sponsored link for the supply and installation of solar panels, inverter and a battery.
The pre-sales engagement from Effective Home was excellent; thorough, informative and good value.
The post sales follow up was poor with little feedback.
The installation was OK in February but with a rushed and poor handover with no documentation provided. We have not been able to fine tune or complete the set up.
Multiple requests for technical support were just acknowledged. A real disappointment.

(Regarding the response given below. Full details were provided back via Trust Pilot 2 days ago on 25 March. Our emails over the last 6 weeks were just acknowledged).

The Technical Lead is now in contact (1 April) and is working to address the issues.

Sadly, it is still the same .. (13 April) ….. not fully functional and not retaining settings.

Poor after instalation customer service

In August 2025 I had a 16 panel solar system with battery fitted by Effective Homes. Everything went well and I'm more than satisfied with the instalation. So when I decided to increase the battery size I had no hesitation in going back to Effective. They installed an additional battery in March this year. After the installer left I noticed several problems, the new battery had not been earthed, the new battery had not been mounted at the manufacturer's recommended distance from the existing battery, probably because the battery management cable that runs between the two battery units wasn't long enough. That cable has a bend at one end which will no doubt in the future lead to premature failure.
I have raised the issue on 3 separate occasions and to date have been completely ignored. Not the type of response you would expect and something that you should consider if your looking to select effective homes as your solar installer of choice

As you can see Effective Homes responded to my review on the 17th March asking me to be patient, well I have been patient its now the 11th April and still no contact. This speaks volumes of how they regard customer service, be warned

I had solar panels installed by…

I had solar panels installed by efficient home in December 2025. Within 3 months on 26 March 2026 my solar stopped generating energy. I called several times to customer serving center to get the right person to speak to. When I called for the first time the lady didn’t want to listen, neither asked my postcode and just said someone will get in touch with you. I felt she just wanted to end the call. Later called again and someone else spoke to me saying I will get call back from engineers in 48 hrs. No call for the next 3 days. I called again and this time someone with knowledge of understanding problems asked me to do some check, which I did and he said he will send me an engineer to check. I did have an engineer come to me and sorry we have back log don’t got delayed to call. The engineer checked the fault and said it’s the inverter problem which he will speak to EH and get a new inverter. It’s been 20 days from the time the problem started since I didn’t get any reply neither from the company or the engineer I call EH again and the person on the phone said to me he will send another engineer to my place to check since it was strange to him that my inverter is faulty. I don’t understand why can’t someone sort the problem quickly. I know they have a back log but that’s not the reason customers should suffer. If the solars were given free I would say nothing but we paid for it. I was asked by many of my friends to give the contact of the company I got my solar panels installed from. I only say don’t as installation may be great but service is ‘ THE WORST’

I have to admit when the old NHS van…

I have to admit when the old NHS van pulled up with our Solar panels and power wall and he needed my husband to help unload it. I did wonder if it was some cowboy outfit!!!
But we are pleased to say everything has gone smoothly, a few communications problems, especially where the scaffolding was concerned, but apart from that everything happened as and when it was supposed to. The roof fitters were excellent and had the panels fitted in no time. The electrician and his young apprentice were here on time working on a realy horrible rainy day, but never stop until we are all up and running. As we only got everything finished yesterday 10th March 26 we are still learning how it all works.
Excellent company would highly recommend
