My family has been left on the street because of the council but after a long search for help, I found them and they helped us when every other institution didn’t help us so me and my family are grateful and will always thank them plus their service is amazing as they listened to us and helped us very much. Everytime I have contacted them they are useless. 3 times I have contacted them in 12 years of homelessness. Last time they ultra lefted me with you made yourself homeless. Waste of space. Strangely enough I have heard certain individuals who they obviously hold highly speak of them being very good at getting them out of homelessness.

I have lots of things to share but to save time simply it's a scam. They take your details after waiting 2-3 hours and when you start explaining your situation they hung up. Shortly after they email you to say they don't have an option for call you back so if you still need their advice just call them. Disappointing, after wasting 3 hours of wait and their behaviour what would you do? After reading all the reviews I didn't call back. Worst place to get an advice, rubbish service and wasting time to call them.

Shelter line called . I said im ' homeless'.
They mocked back immediately, ' we only help those who are homeless, you shouldn't have called'.
Repeated ' I'm homeless need advice and assistance'
Mocked me and spoke down to me, ' no..I'm not going to help you...your not an emergency'.
Said again ' Iam homeless'.
And I hung up on him.
Just taunted me.

Went to shelter office for help.
When walked out heard staff mocking me behind my back saying

' who does she think she is...does she think she can just walk in here and get help'.

I didn't respond and didn't go back after this. But YES, I DO think I can 'just walk in their and get help' - because THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE THERE FOR, CLAIM TO DO, AND GET PAID MILLIONS OF POUNDS AS A CHARITY TO DO.

Absolutely disgusting people.

Balmoral and sundingham court edgware Priory field drive HA8 is the most awful management company that looks after blocks of flats without any respect to resident with unprofessional behaviour and poor management agter they decided to change the lock of our gate situated at the back of the block that every resident use to get to public transport. Under whatever situation resident must be notified of the change and get ASAP keys replacement which was not the case . The management team did not arrange anyone to provide keys replacement and just run away. Disrespectful behaviour and poor management.

Guy on the helpline told me a section 117 doesn't have to be adhered to in the case of a housebound patient with severe mental illness starving themselves to death whilst also being left unable to access medical treatment for cancer. He told me this isn't an emergency and I shouldn't have rang. Incredibly their website asks for donations

Had a time slot to collect my furniture, which then got cancelled last minute. I then got a call from them saying they were picking it up, only to find out that they will not take it because it’s worn. That was not one of the questions I was asked when booking my items. You’re a shelter, not what I thought I would hear from a shelter. To be told that we can’t sell it on, just tell me you’re a used furniture seller, not a shelter. Furthermore, the driver who came to collect did not even take his shoes or ask if it was okay as it was carpeted, horrible experience.

Absolute waste of 2 hours told me what I already knew didn’t particularly answer my questions kept me on hold twice for a while probably googling for answers. Do not waste your time and energy !

Is she nuts? Judging by her jobsworths who cannot be bothered to do their jobs properly, it's a wonder there aren't a few suicides. Still, let the money keep rolling in. The word 'Trustees' means nothing these days. If someone says they are one, I just laugh (LOL).
To have all these negative reviews is a disgrace.
(This has taken a while for me, as I have had to do it all myself). They are ALWAYS busy, so don't call!

Shelter were the only advice service that were there for me consistently through a difficult period spanning Christmas. I was offered a Section 21 after complaining about damp and illegal terms added to a contract for a private rental. I was in contact with Shelter on phone and online chat a few times (with different intricacies) as the situation panned out. The information given could be trusted to be correct - and I asked in-depth legal questions. Shelter chased up environment health who got housing enforcement involved, council housing options (who didn't assess me until after the notice period expired) and pointed me in the direction of legal advice.

I can't ever even get through, tried multiple times over multiple days and always too busy and drop the call. Same with the online chat.

I tried to get help for someone who is in a difficult place and really needs housing support. I waited ages for chat to come available. Eventually it did, and posted a message. There were 3 people ahead of me, so I browsed and researched housing stuff on my laptop whilst waiting. There were no notification sounds but 5 min later I found I had been disconnected because I was 'unavailable'. I was asked to rate this from 1-5 stars so naturally I gave it 1 star and tried to leave a note to explain what happend but they then cancelled the open chat box.
I found email and wrote to them what happened. Then I found an open chat box again, and tried again. One person ahead of me. 20 minutes later, no people ahead of me. 20 more minutes of no people ahead of me and it became clear they were never going to speak to me. They had just left me hanging. Its been an hour now since I got through to this particular chat window- not the previous one- and it is 'open' with no people ahead of me, but they are not answering. Now I have seen the 87% 1 star reviews I understand why. The few good reviews are not people Shelter has helped. They are maybe employees, or at least one is someone who wants help from Shelter and maybe thinks defending them will serve her well. Its tragic. People give Shelter money, and i am sure they get a LOT of funding. Who are they helping? Nobody on here got help. I can verify its pretty much impossible to get help from them. All that funding should be transferred to an organisation that is helping people.

they have caused me so many problems with my landlord, which directly due to my eviction. I was not getting evicted for any other reason apart from Shelter.
I am taking Shelter to court because they deliberately caused a bad situation into a much worse situation.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE AT ALL.

you can see that they only have 1 star reviews. They are a business that takes money from the public (including myself) and only pay themselves with this money. They outsource legal work to useless solicitors that are of no benefit to anyone apart from Shelter who get financial benefits for their crappy referrals

Racist organisations!!! Both internally and externally, will only help black and people of colour, will only employ black and people of colour and have internal process that only support the development of black and people of colour!

Complete waste of time, like all the other reviews no contact at all, sewage found under my kitchen floor which as affected my health, shelter were supposed to make sure council did it properly but no contact at all, the sewage clean up wasn’t done properly now I’m getting flies in my flat again, sent shelter proof by video of this and still no a word they didn’t even mention it, now seeing all these reviews and after reading they are part gov funded I see why, they are on councils side not yours,
Steer clear of this useless lot, you’ll be left hanging and dumped at last minute complete waste of time, absolutely useless.

Not great Didn’t get through on the phones. It took me about four weeks to eventually get through on the phone line at a very expensive phone bill even though they know you could be made homeless and have not much money. It still costs to call them. Then they didn’t have any solicitors available to help us with our homeless situation. Thankfully, we won’t meet homeless, but it was a long process and we have no help from shelter whatsoever and they didn’t get back to us like they promised very poor would not recommend.

Over the past month, I've made more than 200 attempts to connect with 'Shelter'. Unfortunately, in every instance, I encountered a recorded message directing me to call back at a later time. This situation is becoming increasingly more desperate for me and my family, as their primary role is to offer advice to soon to be homeless person/s. However, their recommendation to go online for guidance doesn't account for the fact that not everyone has internet access. I'm perplexed by how such a system operates and more importantly, who is heading 'Shelter'. 'Shelter' need to implement a more effective queuing system or reevaluate the viability of their current service to ensure equitable access for all.
