Their website is one of the worst I have ever tried to use.
Unhelpful and outdated
The automated system needs a massive overall. Utterly infuriating with redundancy, inaccurate, and then tries to pawn you off on a bot. After finally connecting to a human, she sounded like she had been asleep and fumbled with the headset for a very awkward amount of time and then laughed at my situation. It's also bizarre to either cover contacts OR glasses (within 12 months). If your Rx changed or you're new to corrective lenses - wouldn't you need both?! Also, I'm stuck in a situation where I need a 2nd opinion requiring another exam, so I get to pay out of pocket. Thanks. It's just my eyes, no big deal!
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. It is designed to wear you out until you give up with a claim. Every step of the way takes forever until you get the pdf form, which is an Adobe form you must subscribe to Adobe to use! Then they promise to mail you a form in "7-10 days" but it doesn't sho up. And the form I could see but not fill out wanted every little thing itemized, things that aren't even on the invoice form the provider!
Bugs they need to fix
On their automated answering machine if you select mobile device to speak to a chat bot, it just hangs up on you and never reaches back out. It says it will text you and it doesn't.
The customer service reps are horrible and are either lazy and/or don't have access to the data they need to be able to help customers. A customer ID can't be used to look up any information whatsoever about your account. The webpage is a dead end with no useful info and the customer service number on the screen is disconnected when you call it. "This number is not in service." The website is ehealthinsurance.com
They've never sent my member ID or insurance information when requested or when I started my plan. I never had my member ID so when I called trying to find it they actually told me I didn't have a plan with them even though I've been being charged monthly for years.
Just Plain Bad
Unfortunately Eyemed is used by Aetna insurance for vision benefits... Eyemed is VERY difficult to work with, Very difficult to obtain support. Little to no communication with its "members"
If I could I would rate Eyemed a zero...
If I could I would rate Eyemed a zero (0) for customer service. I have spent 2 months trying to get an employee terminated from billing with no success. I have been bounced from rep to rep to rep with no one knowing how to solve the issue. Benefits are good but poor customer service. They ask you to go to their website to handle any issues but the website does not properly send you to the orrect department.
They hide all their forms
They hide all their forms - feels very intentional.
They are really awful
They are really awful, and EyeMed Vision Care "customer service" is horrid. My husband got glasses last fall, and I did what they told me to do (and THAT process was difficult, inconsistent, and took FOREVER). Come to find out, they applied HIS glasses to MY account, so now I can't get my glasses covered. Their solution is to cancel the claim and send the money back, resubmit a new claim for him, and then submit mine - rather than just make an adjustment on the back end, they want the customer to spend the time to fix and submit THREE claims. And I don't trust that they won't screw it up, so I'm just going to have to eat it and I will be looking at dumping them at open enrollment.

the company makes reaching out overly complicated and they are not helpful at all.
I needed to talk to someone ASAP…
I needed to talk to someone ASAP regarding my insurance because the optometrist said "eye med" / unum wasn't verifying I had insurance. So I had to call Unum here, and there's NO ONE TO TALK TO. The irritating automated service asks for your social and DOB, but doesn't even connect you with anyone. It just asks you this info, only to tell you to use a mobile phone to "chat" - why ask personal info if you're just going to push people to a chat? What BS UX. I'm sure your company makes plenty of money so just hire some agents, my god.
Broken Claims Link and Troubles with reimbursment
The out-of-network claims link is not functioning properly, so I was asked to submit my claim via email, which resulted in two denied claims. One reason for denial was that they were unable to find my name and to contact my HR department, yet they processed another $10 claim with the same information. Also, why is the broken link not being addressed? Since May, I have been trying to get reimbursed. From two phone calls, three email submissions, and now attempting USPS, this has not been a great experience.
Call center is the worst and benefits limited
The call center is designed to make you crazy. I was finally able to talk to someone. Told me my child needs a visual processing test. They had no idea of what that was. There is no info online about that either. The whole process feels like a maze designed to keep you from getting the information you need.
Denied because maximum benefit exceeded, Not True!
I had to submit my new eyeglasses documents 3 times, the exact same documents until they sent me a denial of payment because I used an out of network provider (Zenni)!! My insurance gives me over $150 for glasses/contacts, my bill was about $82 and EyeMed denied because my “Maximum Benefit Exceeded”!! They are so full of BS. I truly believe they keep denying people so people will give up. Horrible company. Next Open Enrollment, I’ll make sure my new insurance has nothing to do with EyeMed.
Filling landfills with junk while Execs get bonuses
I don’t understand how an insurance company can deny the medical prescription your physician prescribes. Care should be between a patient and their doctor, without all these middlemen getting a cut while reducing your coverage. Instead, they force you to use subpar medication that contributes more waste to landfills, doesn’t work and makes my eyes physically burn and hurt! This is a class action lawsuit in the making. One bottle of Miebo drops is super expensive but works like a charm!!! They deny my second refill and instead send me SIXTY single use disposable containers that burn my eyeballs. Thank you SO much for that. If I could give this company a negative 10, 20 or infinity star review, I would. Shame on you. But hey! At least the executives are getting paid their million dollar bonuses. We get lemons; they get lemonade. Works for one, but not for all. Something has to change with this broken system.
Out-of-network only covers $95.00 and…
Out-of-network only covers $95.00 and this constitutes as usage of full benefits. Eyemed provides inadequate coverage and is limited in terms of who is in-network.
Very bad customer service
Very bad customer service. Chatting and disappearing. Never get answers
They steal from you every month.
Terrible company they will take your money every month and then won't pay for anything, they practically steal your money because they won't pay for anything.
EYEMED IS A FRAUD COMPANY
EYEMED IS A FRAUD COMPANY. They do not pay the claims.
The customer service misguides the patients all the time.
EYEMED is not a trustworthy company.
I AM THE VICTIM OF EYEMED.
I have tried 4 different call attempts…
I have tried 4 different call attempts and apparently there is no way to speak to a human with this company. You get transferred to a chat agent, which is NOT at all what I need. Thanks Eymed, for your stellar customer service.
Eye Med insurance is a scam
Eye Med must get huge payouts from the select providers that they want you to do business with.
So if I go to a discount eye glass center where the total cost of frames, lenses and all the extras are around $200 I cannot get a single penny in reimbursement. If I go to one of their providers and spend $600 on the same, I could get a around $200 covered. So it's cheaper without EyeMed.
