Your reply clarifies your intended…
Your reply clarifies your intended licensing model, but it does not fully address the concerns raised by what is currently visible on the platform.
You state that using Epic-owned assets inside UEFN projects is permitted under Epic's terms. However, this appears to address assets that Epic has made available through UEFN and the Fortnite ecosystem, not necessarily assets extracted directly from Fortnite game files and redistributed separately.
Could you clarify the distinction you make between:
- Epic assets officially provided for creators to use within UEFN;
- Fortnite assets extracted from game files, including meshes, blueprints, VFX, audio, materials, animations, and other internal resources.
The concern is not about creators using assets that Epic intentionally provides through UEFN. The concern is whether extracted game files, which are not directly offered as UEFN resources by Epic, can be redistributed, uploaded, or licensed by third parties.
You stated that CC BY 4.0 licenses on FortForge only apply to the original work added by creators and cannot apply to Epic Games' intellectual property. However, after reviewing a significant portion of the catalogue, many listings appear to consist primarily of Fortnite assets such as meshes, blueprints, VFX, audio, materials, and galleries, with little or no visible original work added on top.
Some uploaders also publicly describe their content as extracted from Fortnite files.
The issue is that resource pages appear to display a CC BY 4.0 license and attribution requirements directly on the resource itself, without clearly explaining which parts are covered by the license and which parts are excluded due to third-party ownership. An ordinary user could reasonably interpret this as the entire downloadable resource being licensed under CC BY 4.0.
If creators cannot own or re-license Epic Games' intellectual property, could you clarify how resources that appear to consist mainly of extracted Fortnite assets comply with your own Licensing Policy, which states that uploaders must own their content or have the necessary rights to distribute and license it?
Your policy also states that users may not upload content containing copyrighted material they do not have permission to distribute. How are resources reviewed when they appear to originate from Fortnite game files rather than assets officially provided through UEFN?
Another point worth clarifying: some apparently identical resources appear to have been uploaded by different users, sometimes with different licenses and attribution requirements. How does FortForge determine the actual rights holder in these cases and verify what original contribution, if any, was added by the uploader?
Regarding Epic Games being "aware" of FortForge: could you clarify what this means exactly? Does this mean Epic has simply been aware of the platform's existence, or does FortForge have any direct communication, approval, agreement, or partnership with Epic Games regarding the hosting and distribution of these resources?
Awareness of a platform's existence does not necessarily indicate approval or authorization, so clarification on this point would be appreciated.
Regarding the Fortnite builds, your reply stated that they are "not on fortforge.dev". However, your official website currently links users to fortforge.co.uk. Could you clarify whether this service is operated by FortForge and, if so, why the response specifically referred only to the .dev domain?
I appreciate the clarification regarding your intended licensing model. However, the current presentation appears to create confusion between original creator contributions and third-party copyrighted content. Clearer labeling on each resource page explaining exactly what is licensed, what is excluded, and what rights the uploader actually holds would help prevent misunderstandings. Sorry for making another review, but I have no choice since this platform doesn't let me reply directly to your response and forces me to either edit or post a new one. I think people just need to know the truth anyway ;(
