Sad to see you go, but, a lifetime of great hard work deserves to be celebrated, enjoy retirement.

… it is not very often that a customer can enjoy a long distance personal relationship with the owner of a business … but I have with George … through our emails, George has provided invaluable guidance on cap choices that we feel will create the very best look for me … and the quality of the five styles that I have purchased to date (fall and winter fabrics) have been just what I had hoped for … five spring and summer fabric caps are in route as I write, and I am anticipating more of the same look and quality …

The response to my order was very prompt and shipping was also good, especially considering it was international. The cap is GREAT and fits well - I especially appreciate the small adjusting band with snaps - not too obvious but really helpful for those of us between sizes. Liked it so much I ordered a second cap!

I will be 80 this month and I spent my entire adult life serving our country in the military. Every place I traveled I looked for hats that spoke to me. Not much luck except Germany, Austria, and the US. I looked especially hard in Ireland, and the UK. My head is between 7 5/8 and 7 3/4 and while in most countries I found a hat I liked, they were for much smaller heads than God gave me. I took a chance with George’s Caps and ordered two. On arrival I found that both of them fit perfectly! I liked them so much that after a day or two went back and ordered three more! Great craftsmanship, materials, and looks. It is a real shame that this great source of caps will soon become another part of our past. I do however love the reduced price that I had to pay which was responsible for my ability to purchase 5 caps. Why so many? The dermatologist told me I have nothing extra to sew back together if he has to remove anymore skin cancers! Good enough reason? Yes! Especially in such a fashionable way. Thank you George!

I bought this because I wanted a simple flat cap, and it did not disappoint. The check design stands out without being too much. It feels comfortable for long hours, and the stitching looks tidy.

I heard a suggestion that I was mature enough that a baseball cap no longer fit my style. So, I went in search of a new style. I had seen newsboy caps and flat caps but had no idea where to find one. I asked CoPilot to suggest some online shops. The first shop I visited had caps from $119 to $219 dollars, and while great looking I felt the cost was more than I wanted to invest in a cap. I visited a couple more with similar results.

Then I visited George's Caps. I found an astounding array of caps, various styles and multiple colors. I read George's story about his career and how much joy it brought him. I felt like I had made a new acquaintance.

Then I read his announcement that he was retiring. My new acquaintance wasn't going to be long lived, but I decided that I wanted one of his caps. The choice wasn't easy. Then I noticed multi-cap discounts. Next thing I knew there were six caps in my cart. But the price was still lower than one cap at the other sites. I figured they would be low quality, but I could at least determine what color, style and fabric for a more expensive cap.

When they arrived, I was delighted with the fabrics and the styles. They were much nicer than the pictures on the website. I was ecstatic, with one small exception. I was disappointed to find that two of them were not the size I ordered. I sent an email to George; previous internet purchases left me dreading the long chain of emails that were in my future with little or no positive results. Within two hours George replied and asked for a photo of the caps. He quickly replied saying how sorry he was for my disappointment and suggested I select two different style/color replacements. After sending George my choices, he said that rather than sending back the problem caps, that I should keep the small hats to gift to someone else and he would send the replacements I chose for the price of the shipping.

I gladly agreed to his resolution. I received the replacements today and they are wonderful.

I am sad that this business relationship will be short-lived, but I am quite pleased with the caps that George made for me and I will proudly wear them in the years ahead.

While you still can, buy some of George's Caps. You'll be pleased.

I only wish I would have met you earlier! My father loved to wear hats (with a slight tilt...LOL) I thought it funny in my youth. His reason might have been because after he came home from WW II he was bald. I have a head full of hair. I think a hat/cap says I care how I look. I am 75 and now I think a hat/cap is worn for seasons as well as to accent. Your products are well crafted and smart looking at a reasonable price. I have a son(41) and two grandsons. I only hope they like your hats as much as I do and perhaps one day they would like to wear my hats as much as I have enjoyed wearing them. Best of luck in your retirement.

This cap has a nice casual style and feels comfortable to wear. The material is good quality, and the stitching looks clean. It was packed well and delivered quickly. Overall, I think it is a good choice for daily wear.

I just received my 2nd hat from Georges Caps ~ just as masterfully made as the 1st ~ two hats of different material & different color ~ alike in perfection, but each creates its own unique look, putting a stylish final touch on different outfits! I am totally excited about them both! Thank you, George!

Great Cap! I have 3 caps that I love because of style and wear. George's is one. His cap fits so well. Contours to the way I form it, fits great to my head. The color and fabric is great. It's not to dressy but has such a look that it can be worn in multiple situations. I purchased another one on the spot when I adjusted the first one in my car it looked so great. I'm 74 and I still wear blue jeans, and this cap gives such a great fun look but without that cheap construction. I didn't realize how much better a professionally made cap could look and wear. I will miss George's Caps !!

Review: BUYER BEWARE — My Experience With George’s Caps

I purchased two hats from George’s Caps, based largely on the story this company tells about its products: craftsmanship, tradition, a workshop, and caps supposedly handcrafted with extraordinary personal attention by “George.” Not to mention the price perception that the hats were extremely high-quality and80% off because George is retiring.

What I received was completely inconsistent with that marketing.

The hats I received appeared to me to be inexpensive, mass-produced products, made overseas. More troubling, the original manufacturer labels had been intentionally cut out of the hats. This isn’t speculation about a missing tag. I photographed the cut label remnants. On one cap, enough of the original marking remains visible to read “MADE IN CH…”, which appears consistent with “MADE IN CHINA.”

I contacted George’s Caps and specifically confronted them about the cut labels.

Their response was remarkable. They acknowledged that they deliberately remove the labels from every cap before shipping, claiming they do this “to prevent skin irritation from the tag fabric.”

That explanation makes little sense based on the hats I received. On at least one cap, the cut label is located inside/behind the sweatband, where it would not normally contact the wearer’s skin.

I repeatedly asked the company directly: Where were my hats manufactured? Why are the original manufacturer’s labels removed? Why isn’t the actual country of origin clearly disclosed to customers?

The company refunded my purchase and told me I did not need to return the hats. They also told me:

“I will address your other questions separately and personally.”

Despite my follow-up, I did not receive the substantive explanation I requested.

Meanwhile, the marketing emails keep coming.

And those emails make the contrast even more striking.

One describes “George” arriving at his workshop at 5:30 in the morning, personally cutting wool fabric, pinning crowns, rejecting a brim he wasn’t satisfied with, starting it again, and eventually packing the day’s caps himself.

Another says:

“Every cap matters.”

Another claims George spent 38 years building the business through word of mouth.

And perhaps the most extraordinary marketing email supposedly comes from “Margaret,” George’s wife of 44 years, secretly writing while George is “in the workshop.” She describes watching him painstakingly unpick seams late at night because his craftsmanship supposedly matters that much.

The website itself states:

“Handcrafted — Each cap is handcrafted by George.”

Yet the two products I actually received had their original manufacturer labels deliberately cut out, and one retains visible remnants reading “MADE IN CH…”.

Those facts speak for themselves.

I have photographs of the hats and altered labels. I have the company’s written acknowledgment that it deliberately removes the labels. I have the bounced email after following their own instruction to “simply reply to this email.” And I have retained the marketing emails describing this highly personal workshop and handcrafted production story.

To the company’s credit, they did issue me a full refund, and I believe that fact belongs in a fair review.

But a refund doesn’t answer the much larger question.

Where are these hats actually manufactured, and why are the original manufacturer/country-of-origin labels intentionally cut out before customers receive them?

If George’s Caps wants to sell imported or mass-produced hats, that’s their business. There is nothing inherently wrong with a product being manufactured in China.

What I object to is marketing that, in my opinion, creates an entirely different impression about who is making the product, how it is being made, and the craftsmanship customers are purchasing — while simultaneously removing the original manufacturer’s labeling before sending the product to the customer.

Consumers deserve transparency.

I would strongly recommend that anyone considering purchasing from George’s Caps research the company carefully, examine the marketing claims for themselves, and ask where the caps are actually manufactured before placing an order.

I have the photographs and correspondence to substantiate the experience described above.

I bought this cap for my husband, and he has been wearing it regularly. The fabric feels sturdy without being too heavy, and the quality is good. Delivery was fast, and the packaging kept the cap in good condition.

I've purchased three caps because I liked my first cap because it fit great and looked great. Then I wore it to play golf in Alabama where it is very hot and very humid. Baseball caps are hot but George's caps are much cooler and breath with less sweating. In addition they look great and fit very well. Order one or two and you will enjoy them as much as me.

I couldn’t be more pleased. I was hesitant to order something from overseas but I wanted that Burlington cap, especially at that price. I ordered it and George’s Caps stayed in contact with me by email the entire time it was in transit from London to Brunswick, Georgia USA. I got it today and I love it. It’s exactly as pictured. My wife steamed the wrinkles out of it from the long ride. Thanks to George’s Caps and I hope he has a great retirement.

My order containing two caps came the other day. I bought a cotton one, and a wool one. Both came in the Official George's Caps bag. Both fit actually quite well. Had a question about "care and feeding", so I sent an email back. They responded within an hour or so, and answered my questions completely. The cotton, I will wear now, and the flat wool one will be for this winter. Shipped from the UK. Quality is very nice.

I purchased 2 hats from George's Caps and found them well made and sharp looking. The hats fit perfectly and I've received compliments from both women and men regarding their stylishness. At my age, I take any compliments as a plus! :)

Been looking for a nice cap for quite awhile and I came across Georges Caps. How lucky I was! Ordered 1 cap and liked it so much I purchased another. This is a really nice cap for everyday wear. The wool material feels warm, and the herringbone design looks just like the pictures. The quality is good, and it arrived quickly in neat packaging. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.
