Germany Pension Refund is a specialized administrative service for people who worked in Germany and now live abroad: we manage German state pension (Deutsche Rentenversicherung) contribution refunds from the first eligibility check to the final payout. The service has been running since 2015 and is operated by ATLAES GmbH in Berlin. Our current retained records document more than €22 million recovered for clients since November 2022. Non-EU citizens can generally claim back the employee share of their German pension contributions once at least 24 months have passed since their last German pension contribution and they live outside the EU/EEA. The exact rules depend on your citizenship and insurance history — our free calculator checks them for you, and starting takes less than one minute. In a managed claim, we prepare the application and payment documents, identify the recommended pension office for your claim, handle the German-language communication with the authorities, and follow up until the money has actually arrived — a process designed to avoid preventable delays. Most clients complete their entire part of the process digitally, and no German bank account is required: your refund is paid through the escrow account operated by our German partner law firm, and after the agreed fee is deducted, the remaining balance is transferred to the bank account you nominate. Our fee is 9.75% of the refunded amount, capped at €2,500 including VAT, with no upfront payment and no minimum fee. No refund, no fee. Beyond the statutory refund, eligible company-pension (bAV) and VBL cash-outs can be reviewed under a separate agreement. Germany Pension Refund is a private service. We are not part of or affiliated with Deutsche Rentenversicherung or any German government authority. You may apply directly to Deutsche Rentenversicherung without using our service; the pension office charges no application fee.

Just a waste of money
Before hiring them I did read their website and they used testimonies only that show that they got their refunds back in less than 2 to 8 weeks. They do not allow all customers to submit reviews so they don't show the truth behind what is legitimate. They say on their website that it can take longer if you do it yourself but they admitted to me that it is due to the mailing process but on their website they also say they have direct contact with the pension officers that approve the paperwork but instead they have to go through the same process as everyone else by making a appointment setting up a meeting and then being allowed to call. Nothing is difficult or different and it doesn't take years to do it yourself vs them doing it and they lied saying it takes 2 to 8 weeks. It took them over 2 just to file my paperwork. So I highly recommend and so does the pension office in Germany do it on your own. It's not hard. Don't waste your money. The time frame will be the same.

Average means that while some refunds are processed in under two weeks, others take longer than 8 weeks, depending largely on the pension office’s workload and seasonal delays. In fact, around 88% of our claims are finalized within that 2–8 week range. Unfortunately, your claim—submitted right before the summer holiday period, when many pension officers were on vacation—took 11 weeks, which is longer than usual and understandably frustrating for you.
We also want to assure future customers that we do closely monitor each case: we personally follow up with pension officers, know the typical timelines, and intervene if we see a claim dragging beyond expectations. This is what allows us to maintain a reliable average timeframe, even if some individual cases—like yours—take longer.
Finally, regarding feedback: every client receives a link at the end of their process to share their experience. In your case, you were faster in posting feedback than we were in sending the link. We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations and sincerely hope that, despite the delay, you appreciate that we were able to secure your refund in the end.

As for the process, I only had to provide the requested documentation and they handled everything else. I submitting my docs in March 2022 and received my refund in November 2022. Great at getting things “unstuck”
I submitted my paperwork months ago to the refund office in Berlin but my follow-up phone calls and messages went unanswered. I hired Germany Pension Refund and within a week they got in touch with the person who was assigned my case and asked for my refund to be approved. I was told it could take up to eight weeks for my refund to be processed but the money appeared in my account three weeks later. Highly recommend!
