I had a very disappointing experience with this university’s admissions process. Despite already holding a Level 3 Functional Skills qualification in English, the university would not consider it and instead required me to complete their own English assessment.
The entire process took around five hours of my day, including two hours of travel to Leeds, time spent waiting in the lobby, the interview itself, and the assessment. After all of that, I was informed by my agency that I had not been successful in the interview. However, I never received any formal communication from the university regarding the outcome.
What I find most frustrating is that the admissions team seemed unwilling to look beyond a standard procedure or consider the qualifications I already held. It raises the question of why I would want to study at a university that appears unwilling to assess applicants fairly and individually. In my opinion, the admissions team would benefit from better training and improved communication with prospective students.
My children are currently on school holiday, and I came to work while my husband stayed with them. Today, he went to GBS to collect something he had forgotten in the building, which would have taken no more than five minutes. However, he was told by reception that the children were not allowed to sit on the reception chairs, were not allowed to sit in the cafeteria area, and were not even allowed to enter the building with him.
The children are only 6 and 12 years old.
He was effectively forced by reception staff to leave the two children outside the building, exposed to potential risks such as getting lost, abduction, or other dangerous situations. As parents, we found this extremely concerning and distressing.
So i have never seen any university or educational institution anywhere in the world prohibit children from quietly sitting in a reception area while a parent handles documentation or collects personal belongings.
I Think this experience has seriously damaged my perception of the university. I would not feel comfortable recommending this institution to any parent or family-oriented student if basic accommodation and safeguarding considerations for children are not respected.
Under child safeguarding and duty of care principles, institutions should act reasonably and proportionately when children are accompanying parents for brief administrative matters. Preventing young children from remaining safely inside the building raises important concerns about child welfare and protection.
I sincerely hope the university reviews this policy and provides staff with more balanced and humane guidance for situations involving families and children. That’s really bad GBS Manchester.

I recently graduated from GBS and had a really positive experience throughout my studies. The lecturers were supportive, the learning environment was welcoming, and the staff were always helpful whenever I needed guidance. The course helped me grow both academically and personally, and I’m grateful for the skills and confidence I gained during my time here. Thank you, GBS, for a great journey and experience!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with GBS. Unfortunately, the institution fails to take responsibility for its students, especially when serious issues arise, such as problems with Student Finance. Instead of providing real support, communication is poor and assistance is almost nonexistent.
It’s frustrating to see that when you actually need guidance and help, there is no accountability or involvement from their side. As a student, you end up feeling completely left on your own in a system that is supposed to support you. I do not recommend.
