Absolutely horrendous, not safe to use, they take payment for odds that should be free, then block interested buyers from contacting you, I had more than 40 messages that never got to me through their blocking to messages, The are never available on any phone number at all of the several numbers that they have available, they are all closed down. I have been trying to permanently delete my account ,and they are holding onto my data and not allowing me to close down my account. They are trying to get my email address out of me and more data. What are they going to do with that? I wonder this is surely illegal. I would like to warn others of this activity all they want is you information to sell onto other to others, why is it not possible to fully unsubscribe and get away from them without all this difficulty and private information.

Lots of messers on website and gumtree is covering scams. Tried to swap a car, advert removed - seems regulated by pidaras

Ive had two messages from a buyer and I'm unable to reply. gumtree sends you round and round and round and still the problem isn't resolved. Ive tried about 10 times today but still cant sort it. Absolute joke

I mean it looks like a real selling site . Strange that withing minutes of listing something for sale there are 10,50 ,100 or more views and after an hour or so nothing.
Right now I have all these brand new items - £40 Shirt for 50p, £60 shirt for 50p, £55 camouflage cargo trousers for £1, £25 designer Men's shirt for £1 , £20 pyjamas for £1, £70 Men's Canadian Import Winter Jacket for £5 , £1000 leather boots for £450 & £500 leather Boots for £220 and all have more than 50 views but no sales.

And how is this even possible ?..... Packs of brand new socks,3 pairs to a pack, brand name boxed and tagged with a RRP of £6 - Offered for £1 and no a single sale not even a single message AND THIS WAS IN THE WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS !!.

Not only did I expected to sell all 50 packs I had for sale withing hours locally but I expected to sell all of them to people just from my own Housing Estate.

But after 2 weeks no sales so I just binned them .

In total I now have close to £60,000 (cost price ) of items listed and I am not even generation an income of £1 per year on Gumtree.

When you can't sell new packs of socks for 85% off RRP at Christmas then there is something concerning about Gumtree

My Gumtree advert was deleted on the basis that I was allegedly acting as an “agent,” which is completely incorrect. I am a private individual placing a private advertising.

What makes this worse is that Gumtree does not allow appeals, refused to provide any evidence to support their claim, and would not engage in any meaningful discussion. When I asked for clarification, the support agent abruptly closed the chat.

The only “solution” offered was that I should upgrade my account to a Pro/agent account, which involves paying a fee. This effectively forces users to pay in order to advertise, even when they are not agents. It feels less like enforcement of policy and more like pressure to upgrade, undermining Gumtree’s claim to support free private ads.

This experience demonstrates a serious lack of transparency, fairness, and customer care. Decisions are made without explanation, cannot be challenged, and are used to push paid upgrades.

Based on this experience, I have little confidence in Gumtree’s moderation or support practices.

Gumtree is a Scammers paradise

Ad views and replies for each listing is not reset when relisted, most are over 1 year old so the ad views number is irreverent unless it's reset when relisted as different months, seasons and years have a dramatic effect on views and how does an ad views number help me in any way when it's a combined number over many years and sometime in some of my listings over a decade?

Gumtree needs to list how long users have been registered and their location so that sellers can try to spot scams from people who have just joined for a single try at defrauding then they use a different account next time, constantly deleting their profile and rejoining using a different user name to start scamming again

My postcode only covers 3 houses yet gumtree “show on map” feature places me over 8 miles away in a different village

I receive emails stating that I have a message awaiting a response 24 hours after I deleted the message and blocked the user

Relisting one listing at a time is very time consuming, other sites allow pages of 10 or as with preloved site reposts of 50 at a time

So many other free sites available that gumtree has lost a lot of users which is clear by the lack of listings and sales on this site compared to other sites over previous years

Zero trust in Gumtree, too many fraudsters and fake profiles hiding behind a geographical location protection who never read listing descriptions

Today 75 deleted messages from 5-8 years ago have suddenly appeared and ....I can only deletet them one at a time, each one is a 3 step process!!!

10 years ago Gumtree was the number one site to sell on, now all the sales seminars warn people against using Gumtree for this very reason, Gumtree are aware of this and all the issues I've mentioned as I've repeatedly messaged them but they have chosen to ignore the serious issues with Gumtree

They delete you ad and then provide no customer service to help you find out why it has been deleted. They don't care how much money or inconvenience they cause.

Unfortunately the system seems to be broken, ads taken down straight after posting (but payments to gumtrr go through fine), the chat option just constantly reconnects so you can't actually ask for help or advice, I followed every rule and my ads been taken down and their is no way to get help or support to ask why as I haven't violated any guideline listed so therefor I do need to be informed which part is breaking a guideline however as I look on here I see this is not just a isolated experience unfortunately. Will not be using again as I can see ads similar that should honestly be looked into but hey ho, I won't be using it again I strongly advise finding a better site.

Don't try to buy any dogs from anyone especially in Northern Ireland. Scam

Beware!! Tried to sell a pup as he isnot getting along with my other dog. Paid for the advert. Its illegal to rehome underage pups so they removed the ad. No refund. Link to customer service sent to my email says link is broken. The phone number is out of use that they give to paypal for payment perposes. Avoid at all costs!!

Zero customer service when I asked for help. Zero monitoring it seems.

I have been selling for years and have had some good experiences with great buyers who have been nice, polite and reliable. But sadly I am loosing patience with it now. I have a 50 per cent success rate at best with whatever I am selling. The respondents at times are the absolute dregs. No shows happen regularly - and how can you give them a bad review when they have your address? No one has ever apologised and said they aren’t coming to pick up. You are just left hanging. I have recently listed 5 household items all in great condition and genuine bargains but I just can’t deal with all the rudeness and idiocy any more. I think I need to pull the ads and denote them to charity instead. Life is too short to waste time with lying fools on Gumtree.

I have now on numerous occasions tried to place an add to have it removed straight away. They keep messing with their system which in turn stops people from placing legit adds.
Then get there technical staff to reset my account and its up and running again. There is something radically wrong. THIS HAS HAPPEN TO ME OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND NOW ITS EVEN HARDER TO EMAIL THEM WITH TECHNICAL PROBLEMS

gumtree are crooks they took my money to advertise my pickup. i could not fined the Ad so i upgraded to featured cost £30 still could not fined my Ad. i put all my details in correctly it said 0 results for this vehicle sorry ? customer service cut you of if you complain. I want my money back .you scammers

I can see I've received a reply to my PAID ad, but I cannot see the reply. I replied asking them to repost and my message disappeared into the void. I didn't get an email notifying me that I had received a message and when I raised the issue in chat they said the'd send me an email and disconnected and that was it. I'm FUMING. The ad is time sensitive. I have someone interested who will not doubt have found someone else by the time Gum Tree sort this out and am back in chat for the last half an hour being told "an agent is on the way"

Having used it for many many years I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with the website which is so clunky and slow. It doesn't matter whether I'm on my phone network,work laptop, personal laptop and using Wi-Fi. the experience is so frustrating

Following a subject access request Gumtree deleted all of my previously stored messages and effectively suspended my account by denying access to either send or receive messages on their platform.
Despite repeated emails and making a formal complaint (which has yet to be acknowledged) I’ve had no contact and no resolution to the original messaging issue They are appalling!

Over several occasions, I have used the Gumtree platform and paid extra to promote my advertisement. However, I have repeatedly received inquiries asking whether my item is still available. Each time I reply affirmatively, there is no further response.

Based on these experiences, I am highly concerned that some of these inquiries may be generated by the Gumtree platform Ai itself to create the impression of buyer interest. If this is the case, it would be misleading and unethical, as it appears designed to encourage users to spend more money on promotions.

In my opinion, such practices raise serious concerns about the Gumtree platform’s credibility and transparency.

Looks like Gumtree following Ebay and "messing about"with scheduling seller payments and also wanting to charge "Buyer Protection" fees.Thats if I read their email correctly.They should learn a lesson from Ebay who lost thousands of Ebayers through tampering with rules.If something works OK,don't try to fix it.!!!
