We visited the Hall and Woodhouse in Wichelstow Swindon. Firstly what a lovely place, so unique. We were welcomed by Becky who was on duty at the time, lovely lady couldn't do enough for us. Her help with the menu choice and drinks was invaluable. Her manner was friendly and really helpful. My partners food was "amazing" he had salt and vinegar battered Cod and Chips. I had Fish pie which was lovely, if not slightly overdone and the veg had a bit more butter than I would of liked and the mash tasted like it was packet (I know I am fussy). But it was edible I have had worse. But the ambience and Becky made it worth another visit when its a birthday, I shall be trying the epic steak and ale pie next Thanks Becky for all your help. Second time years apart I visited a Hall
& Woodhouse pub, The Black Swan. Left utterly disgusted by the food.

Ordered a portion of chips at almost £6 and literally had a handful 10 max of chips in a tiny little pot! Photos of the portion but unable to upload to the review for some reason?

Drinks expensive
ordered a glass of Prosecco the bar staff poured a glass from an opened bottle it was flat and tasted horrible
Food was very hit and miss the Sunday roast is disappointing
The ambience and outside view is really nice
There was pigeon droppings left by the entrance door
Requires a good clean and sweep

We went for lunch on Saturday afternoon and had a lovely experience. Our visit was made even more special by the exceptional customer service provided by the very friendly and kind team who could not do anything more for us.
We did have a little issue, but the way it was dealt with was superb and did not spoil anything for us.
Would definitely recommend and will be returning again soon.

Visited The Ness Shaldon Devon, ordered a ploughman’s and Burger for my wife, the meal was presented to us by a male member of staff who seemed to have very little care he said the cutlery and condiments were over there, well the food was absolutely disgusting nearly £20 for a ploughman’s two tiny pieces of rock hard cheese two pieces of processed ham two bits of a sausage roll and a scotch egg all we’re taste less the scotch egg you just couldn’t eat it, their was four pieces of bread rock hard no butter just a little bit of taste less salad and my wives £20 Burger was that dry she couldn’t eat it no garnish cold chips no sauce no mayonnaise we will never return to a Hall and woodhouse establishment ever again Lovely place but shocking food and very poor service staff looked and acted like they did not want to be bothered

Went to Westminster on the 22nd.
Order a chicken burger no sauce ( allergies) it came with no cheese explained to the waitress it was no sauce not no cheese! Went to rectify came back with a slice of cheese over the sauce??????? Are you kidding me???
Told the guy there, I didn’t want anything else as didn’t trust them to care about allergies as they clearly didn’t!
Told they had refunded me! They still haven’t! Will never use again! Often use Swindon branch but I shall avoid from now on! Disgraceful! If you have any allergies avoid as they clearly have no idea how to deal with it.

We attended the brewery tour in Blandford and had a fantastic time! Luke was an amazing guide—he made the tour super interesting and created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

We had a lunch visit at The Wire Mill this afternoon. We'd booked a table for three, including a three-year-old, on the terrace for 13:30 and arrived a little early, around 13:00, having just returned from holiday. When we asked the host if we might be seated early, he told us he had several tables to seat before us and that we should wait at the bar, despite the terrace being largely empty and no one else waiting. The interior was completely empty, too, with no one eating inside.

I went to the loo while we waited, and on the way back, it was clear no other parties had been seated, and no one else was waiting. A different member of staff was asked if we could simply be seated and order, given we had a hungry toddler with us, and he seated us immediately without any issue. It set the tone for the rest of the visit rather badly. After that, we decided to just have drinks and a few snacks rather than a full lunch, even though we'd been hungry and had planned to eat properly.

The drinks took 25 minutes to arrive, and the small sides we did order took nearly an hour. When we asked what was happening, the same host told us curtly that food takes 45 minutes to an hour, and didn't seem at all inclined to apologise for the wait or acknowledge that it had gone on longer than that anyway.

Several tables around us were having the same experience and were clearly frustrated, raising it with other staff, which didn't seem fair on them given the host was the one setting the tone.

To top it off, we overheard him quietly offering a nearby table a discount, something we were never offered ourselves.

We live locally and are regulars at a Hall and Woodhouse pub nearby, where the staff are consistently helpful and welcoming, so this really stood out by comparison. We've enjoyed The Wire Mill before, but this has put us off returning.

Staff very courteous and friendly but food disappointing. Overpriced and miniscule portions. On arrival we were told we could only have the table for 1h45m and that no server could take our group's order. Ordering via a QR code depersonalises the experience totally. H&W has a wonderful riverside location and could be so much better.

What happened to this place? the Taplow branch used to be great, good food, good service. The menu is now weird (think Miso in a burger), very limited, at extortionate prices. As the Tower burger had ran out, I had the fried chicken bites - expected some yummy bites. No, they were like the floury ones you can buy from Tescos for £3, awful, my daughter cooks better ones from scratch. The caesar burger was ok but forgettable and small (£19), Fentiman bottles were tiny like smaller than normal. Oh, let's not forget the Bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Expected a small basket maybe? Nope. One slice in a small plate, sliced in about 5 pieces. £4.50. Won't return.

For a pub with rooms very disappointing not to be able to get a coffee at 21:10!

The ness in Shaldon used to be packed and really decent food.
I wondered why on a Friday evening they were at less than half capacity.
The starters were ok.
The twenty quid burgers were absolutely shite!
Just across the river on back beach, the blue hut will serve you an Amazing local venison burger for less than 15quid.
The Ness was two tiny dried out burgers in an average bun with naff salad and half cold chips.
We both had different burgers they were equally bad.
Won't go again

Excellent, dog-friendly place, beautiful canalside setting. Friendly, fast service, superb value drinks and cakes. Highly recommend.

I cannot understand how they can keep dishing out such awful food. We stopped at H&W Milford on sea. It used to be a fabulous hotel. Once again they pick lovely buildings. Such a pity that it has a great view but hopeless in all other respects. I can't blame the staff who are overworked. I could list several things but the main issue is rubbish food arrives in boxes dish it out at a high price. Why woukd H&W care. Maybe game over on the horizon.

Tried to book lunch at the Duchess of Cornwall in Poundbury - website booking is fine, confirmation straight away – then 2 days later a further email telling me that they were allowing me only 1 hour and 15 minutes for my lunch booking. That’s barely time to order and eat a main course.

Letting you book and make arrangements with friends and then 2 days later drop a 75 minute deadline seemed virtually fraudulent. They say that if you want more time ‘just’ speak to someone when you arrive – but it’s a bit late by then, especially if they say no.

I don’t know if this is just the Duchess of Cornwall or all Hall & Woodhouse pubs – but it’s rubbish service and the customer certainly doesn’t come first.

We visited The Anchor Wisley today and spent over £200 on our meal, so it was extremely disappointing to leave with such a poor experience.

Firstly, the car park layout is very poorly designed. We ended up stuck in our space and physically couldn’t reverse out without risking hitting another car. We went back inside to ask for help, simply hoping someone might assist or advise.

The staff member we spoke to who appeared to be the team leader, a woman with sandy brown hair wearing a flowery top on Saturday 14th March at around 13:50, responded incredibly rudely. Her exact words were, “What do you want me to do about it?” followed by “Sort yourself out.” She then told us to go around to every table asking customers if the car belonged to them, essentially expecting us to interrupt everyone else’s meal and disrupt other guests’ experience rather than offering any help herself.

There was no attempt to assist, no sympathy, and no effort to even acknowledge the situation. For a place that expects customers to spend that kind of money, the level of customer service was shocking. As someone who works in customer service, we would at the very least expect a bit of basic human decency, even just acknowledging the situation and trying to help in some way.

The attitude was rude, obnoxious, and completely dismissive. When a problem arises, even if it’s not directly someone’s fault, basic courtesy and a willingness to help should be the minimum expectation, especially from someone who appeared to be a team leader.

If this is the impression you want to give to customers and represent your brand, something needs to change.

We went to the Bath City Centre one on a weekday early. It is clear from other reviews and having seen how busy it is in the evening that the best times are during a weekday when it is not busy and very pleasant. Charlotte was excellent serving us and the place was less than medium busy so it gave us a chance to really appreciate the food and drink. The service was very good maybe due to the fact that it was exactly the right number of people to staff.

We went to the Anchor next to Pyrford lock just before Christmas. I was surprised to see it was fairly empty for the time of year. I think I know why. Although the staff are good and the food is always very good, they have got silly with their prices, especially for wine. My wife had a large Pinot and it was £11.50! Add to that the 12.5% tip, it’s nearly £13 for a “cheap” glass of wine. They have an offer on now for 30% of the total bill Monday to Thursday. At that price I would definitely recommend but sadly, I won’t be able to go anymore and pay full price. It is a beautiful pub though.

My daughter chose the Hall & Woodhouse pub in Crowthorne to hold a wake for my husband. I can honestly say that they were absolutely fantastic.
The booking process was simple, the food choices were excellent. On arrival we found we had a dedicated space available for us. The staff brought out the food and it was amazing! We were impressed that they had separate areas for the gluten free food.
All our guests ( there were 40 of us) remarked on the quality and choice of the food.
The venue itself was clean and had a lovely ambiance.
The staff helped to make this a real celebration of my wonderful husband’s life.
I was so impressed that the next day I sat down and hand wrote a letter of thanks to the Manager and staff.
I can throughly recommend this venue to anyone in similar position.
I had never been here before, but I shall certainly visit again in happier circumstances.
Full marks to the Crowthorne team.
