JD Gyms - Castleford Reviews 

Only just joined JD Gym but so far so good enjoying getting back into the fitness routine. Great staff really friendly. I would like to see some alcohol wipes to wipe down the equipment once it’s been used. But other than that little thing it’s a great gym. Credit to the staff.

The gym is convenient but it feels a little cramped especially at peak times as the equipment is very close together

Lack of equipment - cable machines and men's showers smell like sewage

No aircorn, half equipment is broken or not in use due to been out of order, layout is a bit all over place, hardly any staff or no staff when need someone not really worth £25.99 a month when half the stuff u can't actually use.

They don’t have anything to wipe down the machines anywhere .

Sick to death of equipment not working. 7 rowing machines and only 2 working. Even the 2 that do work need the foot straps replacing as they have worn and constantly need tightening whilst exercising. Bits missing off some of the cross trainers and they "clunk". Some of the treadmills are set to MPH whilst others are KPH, need to be identical or adjustable. Might be a good idea if a member of staff checked the equipment weekly. Problem is there never seems to be any staff around.

Plus point is free parking but can be difficult to find a place on Saturdays and Sundays when Escape is busy.

It’s very well organised

Love the gym feel like it has so many different people on different journeys. Only down side is my first time visiting I sat in car park for 30 minutes with anxiety thinking will I know how to use the equipment, I didn’t know where to go to changing rooms but once I was in I figured it out but would be lovely for a little show round before hand!

It was good but no machine dips a bit disappointed in that but otherwise good vibes and good equipment

All equipment good, clean and brightly lit. Struggled to find the ladies changing rooms though!

Gym lay out could be better.the main weights area is squeezed into a corner with cardio equipment having majority of the space.

Attatchments rusted and falling apart . Machines old . Benches all have an incline seat that isnt adjustable (most uncomfortable and annoying thing ever ) . The benches for bench press are very slim and short , terrible for taller people.

Great facilities, friendly staff, amazing personal trainers. Excellent yoga classes.

I've been a member of several different gyms since I started my fitness journey, and i have to say that I've found jd gyms at castleford to be the best one.
The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, even when they're not on shift and are training, they'll always take the time to help and offer advice.
The manager Shelley, is absolutely brilliant, very professional and makes it a safe and inclusive space for all the members.
Lloyd who has been my PT for over 3 years is absolutely brilliant, Thanks to him, I've competed in strong women competitions and he makes the sessions such fun. He goes above and beyond and always pushes me to be the best version of myself. He excels in all gym disciplines, helping beginners and members who are at competition level. He's a legend!!
I have a number of gyms closer to me but have chosen to make the 25 minute journeyman way several times a week. It's first class in my opinion.

I have been attending this gym for about 3 years and really enjoy the classes. However over the last 6 months I am getting frustrated with certain issues like the air con not turn on for classes in the studio or for spin. I’ve endured spin classes with no air con and attended a combat class this week when it was actually blowing warm air out. The instructor sent a message asking for it to be switched to air con which wasn’t picked up. Surely the air con should be timed for scheduled classes. What is happening with the showers. They were out of order one week, then out again this week for one day ( experienced a cold shower as no notification that they were not working) the communication is not good and there seems to be no evidence or repair/improvement. I went to attend the spin class tonight which had been cancelled with no reason or communication. Some of the equipment is looking tired and don’t appear to be maintained. Some of The rowing machines sound like need oiling. The spin bikes don’t seem to be maintained either and so don’t have the same resistant as others and there is 1 bike I won’t use as it is going to cause someone an injury. It get moved out of the way because the whole peddle comes off and even when it’s moved back in line I can guarantee it will come off again mid spin. My husband and son also attend this gym and we think we need to start looking for another gym. I also attend with a friend so that’s 4 people that are getting frustrated with how it is been run.

When I go to the gym I don’t take my phone because when I’m there I’m there to work out . There is too many people on there phone just sat on the Machines . There was a guy they today he did 30mins on same Machine and most of the time he was on his phone . And having to stand out side the gym trying to get wi-Fi because there is no phone reception in the escape to got in . I asked for a code like most of the people use and I was told they don’t give them out anymore. Most of the staff don’t have a clue what there doing

Style over functionality

Great gym. Just need air con over the treadmills to work please. It's not easy to do this but if the temperature is closer to 16 degrees, this enables members to do high intensity aerobic / sprinting etc.

Been over to the gym today and a fab PT "Dragune" gave good advice over this issue.

Generally a very clean gym with excellent range of equipment and helpful staff.

Having moved to the Castleford area and previously been a PureGym Hunslet member. I joined JD gyms as near by.
Im big on doing classes and the staff are enthusiastic but have no idea how many are going to attend. Recently the JD Gyms management decided classes to run back to back with no time in between. This causes customers to rush about for toilet/water breaks. PTs don't get time to set up or clear away between classes.
Monday and Friday classes are few and far between.
Lots of equipment is tired and in need of replacement/updating.

PureGym have an app to sort the classes so staff know who is coming, and others know the class size.
PureGym are cheaper per month.
PureGym do BlueLight discount, you apparently do student discount, for members.
PureGym Hunslet was refitted this year and the old gear was in better condition than some of the present JD Gyms Kit in Xscape.
