Before you buy Laplink PCmover – read this
I’m sharing this as a warning to other users.
PCmover is marketed as a tool for transferring your data when you change computers — something most people do once every few years. Naturally, you’d expect that buying a license gives you reasonable long-term usability.
That’s not the case.
The license is single-use only. After one migration, your serial number becomes unusable. If you upgrade your PC again in a few years, you are expected to buy the software again from scratch.
Yes — this is mentioned somewhere in the documentation. But it is not aligned with normal user expectations for this type of software and is easy to overlook during purchase.
In practice, this turns PCmover into a recurring cost disguised as a one-time purchase, with no meaningful loyalty options, no reuse, and minimal discount for existing customers.
Support confirmed there is no flexibility and no escalation path, even for returning users.
This pricing model feels outdated and unfriendly to customers who use the product exactly as intended — occasionally.
Laplink should seriously reconsider this approach.
If you are considering PCmover, make sure you fully understand this limitation before buying — it may not be the value you expect.

Originally purchased Zinstall for double the cost. I spent the better part of 3 days trying to get the program to work. Finally gave up and did a chargeback and purchased Laplink's PCMover. Had the whole thing finished in 2 hours. I so wished I had purchased this one first.

What the ultimate bundle with two licenses cuz I needed to move an XP to a Windows 10 computer boxes works with Windows 11 to XP well it doesn't when to install it on my XB computer came up right away saying Windows 7 or higher even though the Box said it works with XP first error contact the lab click support agent sent me two different links for two different softwares finally got the last link to work to even install on XP ran the program took over 6 hours and only moved half of the system pictures documents and half the programs were not moved what the version I was sent yet I still used up one of my licenses to find this out not happy with the product at all I would be very careful before purchasing his product

Ich hatte mir einen neuen Pc gekauft und wolltemein c Laufwerk auf den neuen PC übertragen. Meine SSD Festplate hat 240 GB. Ich kaufte eine Lizenz von Laplink für den einmaligen Gebrauch und ein PC Mover Kabel. >Ich hatte mich für Laplink aufgrund der Aussage einfach und schnell enzschieden.
Man muss die Software auf beiden PC's installieren und mit dem selben Lizenzschlüssel freischalten.Das hat leider nur auf dem alten PC funktioniert, sa daas ich noch eine Lizenz erwarb, die dann auf beiden funktionierte. So weit so gut.
Die Software schlägt den aus ihrer Sicht schnellsten Übertragungsweg vor, was in meinem Fall das Netzwek ist.
Seit mehr als 150(!)) Stunden nudelt nun die Software vor sich hin und hat noch nicht mal die Hälfte übertragen. Absolut unbrauchbar.

Very disappointing experience. First, after I bought and downloaded it, it told me I needed to turn off any Microsoft Trials that might be running, without explaining what those are or how I might turn them off. After I decided to blow that off, it told me that the new computer doesn't have enough memory to take all the transfers, so it gave me a bewildering array of choices about what to throw out of the lifeboat, and I'm sure I botched that, because lots of things I wanted transferred, like pictures and some videos, didn't get transferred. This thing may work ok if you're a computer expert, but for an older person, it's a total waste of time and money.

Bought the software to save myself time moving 7 years worth of applications, docs and files to a new PC. Spent hours each time configuring, waiting for transfer and the only to find it failed and bricked my machine. Apparently the presence of Acronis on the old machine was an issue (same company?). However, I removed this and guess what - same issue. 2 months later, I regained the will to try it once more only to be told I ran out of attempts and they wouldn't reissue the license (I don't recall seeing that in the terms?!) . Bad attitude from support which only, mildly changed once I said I was going to share my opinion online. I've invested hours of my time in this and would have been faster manually moving everything. What a waste.

They get 2 stars for prompt replies (I'm not going to call it support). But that's it.

I had problems initially trying to install Laplink so I got on the support que and told them I had problems installing their software. I was connected to one of their technicians named Aiel. This precious soul sat with me for almost five hours and installed their software, then helped me migrate all of documents and programs over to my new computer. This guy, and thus their software, was fantastic. I don't know how Laplink got such an incredible genius to work with me, but WOW, this guy is amazing. I think anyone lucky enough to have this guy working them should feel quite fortunate.

aside from the cost, I was told that this was a multi use, not so, one time only. The only thing that really worked was I could plug it in, beyond that nothing. I have Microsoft 365 and have for about 15 to 20 years, that actually transferred everything before this was even started, I already had everything I transferred over. Waste of time and money. I inherited a few headaches, such ss my computer switched to greyscale on it's own. Print drivers were not transfered, I had to do all of my stuff the old fashioned way. Waste of money don't bother, a headache to download softwear.

Bad software - had black screen after transfer - paypal no money back

Had to reinstall windows completely. Lost half a day and 35USD

PCmover not working as advertised. It does copy the old windows and import it in the new fresh windows. But then the problems start. Screen turns randomly black. Drivers updated = no difference. Their support points very quickly to the hardware. But it is the same PC. Old windows no issue. New windows after PCMover = problems.

Their solution: remove PCMover, BUY A NEW LICENSE, and reinstall.

Yeah right. They think I'm stupid or so.... No thank you.

PCMOVER Software doesn't work that well. Refused to move Office 365 to the new PC. When I wiped the target PC to start again the software said I'd used my licenses up in the abortive attempt. I couldn't face the customer support hell so used a USB stick and copied the photos, documents etc to the new PC.

Bought a new Dell desktop. The old one is a decade old and running Windows 10. New one runs Windows 11 Home.
Bought PCmover Ultimate (w/ USB cable).

Tip:
If you haven’t already done so, do as I did years ago: set up an external drive and store ALL your data on it rather than the C: drive. Then migrating data to the new PC consists of unplugging the external drive from the old and plugging into the new.

Given my data situation, my primary objective was migrating applications. Because I was moving to a newer version of Windows, this was a lost cause, and I should have recognized that prior to spending $60 on PCmover. It did successfully move a few apps, but failed miserably to migrate a single “mission critical” application.

Then there were the crashes. I spent hours and hours dotting I’s and crossing t’s according to the manual, then spent hours making decisions based on PCmover’s “Analysis” step, only to have the software crash right before initiation of the transfer, apparently because I had the audacity to ask that PCmover notify me via email when the transfer was complete. (Spoiler alert: I was never able to successfully complete the transfer. )

PCmover’s chat support line was very responsive. However, if the crash itself didn’t prove to me that I was in deep doodoo, the proof REALLY hit home when, after describing the circumstances leading up to the crash, the support rep’s solution was:
1, uninstall PCmover from the old PC;
2. uninstall PCmover from the new PC;
3. reinstall PCmover to both PCs using a link to a different, apparently unpublished version of the software;
4. redo the entire Analysis process (apparently there was no provision for saving any of the decisions I made previously);
5. hold your breath;
6. Push go again.

Surprising even myself, I did all those things. This time, the process crashed several hours in, with a generic message suggesting a “connection” problem between the PCs. So….your fancy $30 USB cable took a nap? (side note: this cable is apparently not just a USB 3 cable with male connectors at both ends; don't try to save a buck with a plain old cable)

The one thing that PCmover did fairly well was transferring User preferences and parameters.

Final conclusion:
Apple has been doing this well for a long, long time. But if you’re stuck with Windows, don’t expect a $60 software package to ease the pain. It won’t.

I purchased laplink pc mover pro and due to no fault of my own I have had multiple issues with a new PC I ordered from Bedrock computers. These issues are still not resolved and Inhave decided to purchase a new PC elsewhere instead. Laplink did agree to reset my license once however I didn't manage to transfer all my data and since I last tried the drive is now defective!
I have emailed customer services however they are insisting I will have to buy a new license even though I never benefited from this one.
I would suggest trying elsewhere as it was also very very slow.

I have not updated my computer for ages and needed to so gave this a try. My first attempt was less than satisfactorily mainly because I didn't do all the things they say you should do (like turn off windows defender and anti virus, do a scandisk etc). Anyway, I had a glitch and thought I would try the help desk. They were amazingly helpful - and NO waiting! I rang at 4.am once and they were there and put me in the right direction. For me it was a great experience. Everything transferred seamlessly, yay.

Their software wouldn't work with my Wi-Fi networking, so I bought their Laplink USB 3.0 cable, more than doubling the cost of transfering to a new machine. With the cable it worked really well.
I then wanted to transfer a large number of data files from several computers, so I thought I'd use the USB cable to do it.
It then turns out that Laplink expect me to pay for a PCMover licence every time I want to transfer any files from one computer to another!
So my quite expensive and almost unused Laplink USB 3.0 cable is now completely useless to me!

Purchased a transfer cable and software to transfer files to 2 new laptops only to find out the ridiculous policy on the software that you can only transfer once.

Will never purchase anything from laplink again and would recommend avoiding their products due to ridiculous policies like this!

There support is also appalling with unhelpful agents

It is hard to navigate, slow (I had to order the $0 cable to see if that works) and hard to install.

Don't buy

Absolute load of rubbish...I wish I had read these reviews first....never learn! First, there was just so much it didn't transfer that's it going to take more time sorting through it all than simply using an external hard drive to transfer everything - which would be fully under your control. I suspect there are strong links with Microsoft since it makes decisions favouring that monopolistic company, using onedrive, for example, even though it was directed not to. And when you delete all the files on onedrive it automatically deletes them from your hard drive...Sheeesh, more time wasted. It's a bit like Norton software and advertising - really difficult to get rid of.In my opinion, the new fascism is in these overrated tech companies these days which pretend to make decisions for your own good, but actually it removes your agency and relates more to their own interests. Anyhow, I wouldn't waste your money on something that takes a very long time (over 16 hours for 245 GB) and is extremely incomplete, taking many more hours to correct. Once again, an absolute load of rubbish and a waste of your time and money.

Used Laplink PC Mover a few times for different laptops and have been fairly happy and went back again. Ws a little lazy and just went to the company website and bought a pro license for $60 withouth checking pricing, only to do a little more googling after buying it to find plenty of licenses for pro for $25. Really, no way to anger a customer off in this day and age other than charging MORE direct. Will likely be my last time using it, I'll use a harddrive and some other software next time. Just charge everyone the same price, is that so hard?

Using chat I was able to move files from old PC to new PC. However, Laplink advertises you do not need old CDs/DVDs or serial numbers to move files, but you will need all the registration numbers to use software moved from old to new. Not worth the time or effort.
