Tried to cancel within a minute — refused
I placed an order with Oak Furniture Store and emailed them to cancel it within approximately one minute of checkout.
The checkout process for WA was unusual. Shipping was displayed as $0.01 with a message saying they would contact me with a manual freight quote. When I clicked “Pay now”, I expected the shipping process to be finalised or clarified, but instead my stored card details were immediately charged for the order, despite the actual freight cost still being unknown.
I realised what had happened straight away and immediately emailed asking them to cancel. I also looked for a phone number to contact them but couldn't find one displayed.
Despite contacting them almost immediately, they subsequently told me the order was already “in process” and could not be cancelled. At that point they were still waiting for their dispatch team to calculate the freight charge. It was at this point that I also realised that they just ship their products from China to their warehouse.
I understand that the checkout stated a manual freight quote would follow. My issue is that a business would refuse an almost immediate cancellation when the freight hadn't even been quoted yet, let alone accepted by me.
Very disappointing customer service and checkout experience. I would recommend being extremely careful before pressing “Pay now”, particularly if ordering from WA, as you may be committing to the purchase before knowing what delivery will cost.
