Smoke and Mirrors

The engineer who visited was genuinely pleasant, but the aftercare and transparency were very poor.

PHC serviced my Dyson Gen5detect (SV23) and then fitted a non-genuine “PHC” filter, charging an additional £44.99 on top of the service cost. They later confirmed in writing it wasn’t a genuine Dyson part, yet insisted it was “like-for-like” and “HEPA” while also stating they cannot provide any datasheet, certificate or test evidence.

The filter itself has no markings and is physically different to the original, so the HEPA claim is effectively “trust us”.

The issue is that PHC can’t substantiate their HEPA claim any more than an Amazon online listed version can, unless they provide objective evidence. Without that, it’s difficult to justify the premium price, especially as the filter is a simple twist on/off part and the service is already charged separately.

They also sold a membership on the implied value of expensive future parts being covered, then confirmed they will not guarantee genuine Dyson parts and will supply parts at their discretion. That’s not transparent and isn’t what most customers would assume when they read “fully equipped with genuine parts”, on their website.

Exercise caution: My fear is the many reviewers assume they are getting genuine Dyson parts.

Update: PHC has provided a return address and confirmed they will refund the filter on return. I’m returning the filter and will replace it with a genuine Dyson part.

Hello Mr Wentworth, your 'review' is untrue. We supplied a high-quality alternative filter clearly marked on the invoice as a PHC part saving you £5.00 over the cost of a genuine Dyson one. We always try and save our customers money whenever we can. We offer fantastic value for money as can be seen by the hundreds of five-star reviews. For a full in-home service, we charge just £39.99 inc VAT. After VAT that leaves us with £33.32 which has to pay for office costs (staff, recruitment, sick pay, PAYE etc); building costs (rent, rate, maintenance, gas, electricity, insurance, etc); engineer costs (training, pay, uniform etc), vehicle costs (purchase, service, MOT, fuel, tyres, insurance, depreciation, etc). Plus, seemingly endless additional costs in running a business. Regarding finding the parts cheaper elsewhere unfortunately you are not comparing apples with apples. The price of a part advertised online is purely that. The cost of the bare part. It does not take into account the cost of having an engineer visit your home to diagnose a fault, correctly identify which parts are required, supplying the part, fitting the part and providing a twelve-month warranty on the part. In fact, it is so expensive to provide mobile service engineers that Dyson no longer have any field service engineers at all.
There are a great many alternative parts available at various prices and also at greatly varying quality. We only use the highest quality parts available and back this up with a twelve-month warranty.

I cannot recommend this company highly…

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I had my Dyson V15 detect serviced today. Jack the engineer completely dismantled the hoover and cleaned every part of the hoover.
I must say the hoover seems as good as the day I purchased it.
I also joined the VIP membership programme which includes annual in home service.
All parts covered on the vacuum (including fair wear & tear.
Free set of filters if needed on annual service
Unlimited Free call out & all Labour for a year.
This company definitely 5** plus

Outstanding service once again from PHC. We signed up to their annual service plan and I am so pleased we did. The last couple of visits have been from Mark the engineer who is an absolute credit to the company. Polite, knowledgeable and really helpful.

Jack did the service of our Dyson cleaner, as he did last year. Arrived on time, was courteous and efficient as usual. Our Dyson cleaner looked as new on completion.
Highly recommended.

Perfect service

I cleaned my own carpet before the engineer’s visit. Ross then arrived and serviced the machine. He left 30 minutes later and I again cleaned the carpet. Much to my surprise it was filthy. Conclusion: get your machine cleaned by these guys once a year. It’s brilliant!

Great job! wish we’d booked sooner!

Had our Dyson serviced and fixed. Booking the appointment was easy, the phone team were informative and have many time options available to suit me.
Jack the servicing engineer was friendly, worked fast and was considerate of our home and space. Jack did a great job and had all the parts to fix our Dyson on hand.
Happy with the very convenient service, wish we’d done it sooner!

Good service

Good service, arrived on time and thoroughly cleaned the vacuum. Replaced the motorised head as damaged but this was very expensive compared to other suppliers. Don’t really get opportunity to check out prices.

So skilled, personable and professional
He explained clearly the problem and what our cleaner was doing wrong by not inserting the bag correctly.
