Disappointed Pickaxe long-time user; major feature changes and broken AppSumo promises
I purchased the AppSumo lifetime deal for Pickaxe, which was maxed out, expecting the features and API access advertised at the time. After months of use, I’m left frustrated and disappointed.
What went wrong
* Core features removed or restricted: Features that were available when I purchased the deal are now behind new “Pro” tiers or have been entirely locked. This includes access to newer models and some workspace/project capabilities I relied on.
* API access taken away or limited: The lifetime plan originally advertised API access for building integrations. That API access has been restricted for AppSumo accounts. I can’t use the platform programmatically like I was promised.
* LLMs excluded from AppSumo deal: newer, large language models (including higher-quality or more affordable models) are not available to AppSumo users. The platform advertises support for multiple LLMs, but AppSumo purchasers are blocked from key models unless they upgrade and pay again.
* Poor communication and support: responses from support have been vague or confrontational when I asked about these changes. I didn’t get clear timelines or fair compensation for downgraded access.
* Instability for serious work: frequent changes and the absence of enterprise-level features (real memory, conditional logic, export/versioning) make Pickaxe unreliable for client or production use.
How it affected me
* Integrations and workflows stalled because API access was removed.
* I can’t use newer LLMs, which are essential for quality outputs, so I’ve had to find alternative tools or pay again. I stopped using the software, but
* Time spent learning and building on Pickaxe feels wasted given the sudden limitations.
Recommendation: If you’re considering buying the AppSumo lifetime deal now, proceed with caution. Verify the current terms in writing and accept that AppSumo plans may not receive the same level of LLM and API access as direct customers. For anyone who requires stable API access and guaranteed model choices for production work, I recommend exploring alternatives with clearer, stable contracts or considering a provider that explicitly includes the LLMs and API features you need.
