Reading gets harder in the evening, and most people put that down to their eyes. Often it is the light. An ordinary bulb or LED is built on a blue chip, so it looks white while leaving gaps across the spectrum, and your eyes work to fill them in. You get glare across the room while the small print stays hard work. Daylight has no gaps in it, which is why reading by a window on a clear morning is easy.
What a Serious Light does
Rebuilding daylight indoors is the only thing we have done for forty years. Daylight Wavelength Technology™ reaches 98 per cent colour accuracy across the full spectrum, and an HD Original puts up to 7,200 lux on your page at 50cm, which is about twelve times the light you get from an ordinary 60 watt bulb at the same distance. The beam adjusts from a paperback to a full broadsheet, and the dimmer remembers the setting you read by.
The range
We make floor lamps, table lamps and wall-mounted reading lights, in Black and Heritage White. The HD Pro is the most adjustable, with a flexible arm, a remote handset and a cordless option. The HD Original is the one most people choose. The HD Essential is the simplest mains light we make. The HD Mini and the HD ROAM are cordless and portable, for reading nowhere near a socket. The HD Original and HD Essential are hand-built in Aylesbury, around fifty a day.

DHL's tracking is hopeless
DHL's tracking is hopeless. So when it said that the package should have been delivered hours ago, I contacted Customer Services and the lady there spent ages liaising with DHL - the parcel arrived the next day. The product itself (floor standing HD light) does exactly as expected. The sale discount was also very acceptable.

Good online service and great lamps, able to get replacement bulbs, also purchased another lamp as so happy with the first one I bought years ago.
Lamps perfect for jewellery work, sewing and paperwork, especially on darker winter days and evenings.

Such a pleasure to deal with this company's staff
My floor lamp which I've had for 14 years had started to flicker, despite a new bulb. I emailed the company, received a phone call within a couple of hours explaining their repair service and everything happened when I was told it would - collection and return once the lamp had been repaired, and a year's guarantee. Cannot fault either the service or the amazingly helpful and friendly staff.

Before I ordered a replacement bulb for my Alexa light, I needed to recall exactly when I purchased it - which I couldn’t remember and had mislaid the invoice. I messaged Serious Readers to ask if they could possibly trace the date for me.
