Shirecare describes my experience as having “fallen short of my expectations.” This understates concerns involving missed and late care calls, unmet assessed needs, injury, poor communication, complaints and safeguarding.

As a disabled service user with a young baby, I relied on my care package for essential daily support. I experienced repeated late and missed visits, poor communication, frequent changes of carers and difficulty getting my assessed needs met.

On one occasion, the allocated carer failed to attend when I needed support for an important MRI appointment—an absence Shirecare acknowledged. On another, delays in care contributed to me sustaining a serious burn injury while left waiting for support.

I repeatedly raised concerns and requested reasonable adjustments, including later calls because medication causes morning drowsiness and my sleep is disrupted caring for my baby. Early visits also disturbed my baby’s sleep. I requested appropriate boundaries and continuity after feeling uncomfortable with particular carers. I did not feel these matters were handled safely, consistently or in a person-centred way.

Constant staff changes meant repeatedly explaining my disabilities and needs. This caused significant stress and made maintaining a safe, stable environment for myself and my baby more difficult.

After safeguarding concerns and formal complaints were raised, Shirecare gave notice ending its provision of my care package rather than making a meaningful and transparent attempt to resolve the issues.

The local authority subsequently initiated a Section 42 safeguarding enquiry. The matter was also referred through the council’s complaints and contracts/commissioning processes, and concerns were reported to the CQC.

Shirecare now says parts of my review do not reflect its information or review findings. However, I have not received a clear paper trail showing how key incidents were recorded, investigated or concluded, such as complete incident reports, investigation findings or meaningful written outcomes.

More seriously, my social worker has emailed Shirecare on three separate occasions requesting reports and incident logs expected to be held on my file. Shirecare has failed to provide all the requested records.

This contradicts the impression created by its response that concerns are considered through appropriate internal processes and, where required, with safeguarding or statutory authorities. Confidentiality does not explain why records have not been supplied directly to the authorised social worker responsible for the safeguarding process.

If the incidents were properly recorded and reviewed, the reports should be available to professionals investigating my concerns. Failure to provide all requested records after three emails raises serious questions about record-keeping, transparency and whether correct safeguarding procedures were followed.

Shirecare also says it does not dismiss or discourage safeguarding concerns. My experience was that my concerns were repeatedly minimised and that its service ended after I raised safeguarding matters and complaints.

Some individual carers were kind, professional and supportive. My concerns relate mainly to management, service delivery and the handling of serious incidents and safeguarding issues.

I encourage prospective service users and families to examine reviews carefully rather than relying solely on the overall score. I observed positive reviews apparently written by people who work, or have worked, for Shirecare, and clusters of positive reviews appearing after negative feedback. Readers can reach their own conclusions.

This review reflects my honest personal experience and the information available to me. I have retained correspondence and evidence and raised my concerns through the appropriate channels.

Had Shire Care for a family member. The first 2 weeks, they were very good, kept to the times etc. it soon deteriorated very quickly. Apart from a handful of staff, who genuinely had a caring ethic and attitude, the staff that was being sent were woeful. Examples are, flooding the bathroom, not leaving the bathroom as they found it, being on their phones when there was other things to do, leaving the kitchen in a state, not cleaning the commode properly, rushing the call to go earlier (evening call was for 20 mins but was regularly timed at 4 mins), no uniform ( the pictures on the website show staff with lanyards and uniforms, this not a true interpretation of frontline staff) no PPE, etc, etc. That was just the caring side.
The office/management/admin side was appalling. No one answered the on call number, absolutely no communication with clients when the call time was changed, even after the half hour point, extremely dismissive of clients concerns, emails that just paid lip service (I have at least 6/7 emails that said the same thing every time), accusing clients family members of shouting and swearing at office staff when they were just being assertive, very high staff turnover, having young (18) inexperienced and vulnerable staff out till midnight, employing staff members with very poor communication skills.
The company attitude seems to be that clients have to fit round the company and NOT the company fitting round the clients and the care of clients is second to ‘making money’.
The one star given is out of respect to the handful of staff who were excellent and have a very caring attitude (they know who they are).
This company should be no where near the care of vulnerable people. Anyone wanting to get into care should absolutely steer clear of Shire Care. Any authority that uses this company should really have a good hard look at them.
I would advise anyone who is looking for care services to give Shire Care a very wide berth.

I rushed to Grimsby UK as heard our dad Kenneth Crosswaite, just out of hospital, and 15 minutes away from our family home, why was Kenneth dropped off at Stallingborough Lodge Shire Care, 47 customers, 1 bathroom!!! When I arrived Christine Angela Wright the manager, had taken his phone and wallet off him stuck our dad Kenneth in a box room in a broken wheelchair where he was being stuck with needles, she refused to let us take dad home, in fact Christine Angela Wright spat in our dad's face, and wouldn't allow him to bathe. When we tried to get out and put Harassment charges on Ken's daughter, After 4 hours in that stinking lodge Ken's daughter was physically assaulted by 1 male and 2 female of the staff in the Shire Care. Subsequently Christine Wright held Kenneth Crosswaite their for over 2 years (7 years is written on Christine Wright's care plan at £1250 per week) continuesly stabbing him with knives and needles never permitted to go outside for fresh air. GBH manslaughter/murder, Christine Wright and her bootlickers are allowed to cobble together fraudulent paperwork documents unchecked by any doctors.
Christine Wright has given our family estate, to complete strangers together with our most private and intimate effects and identity documents out of our home to a gang of her evil old codger friends. Kenneth was 22 years in the Army. Played rugby for Leeds, and boxed in the Army he was very active and on the TV Countdown programm, he just wanted to go home and heal with his wife (who was also dead by Shire Care 2 months after I exposed what was actually going on in there) Then the asanine who work at Shire Care got their claws on Kenneth. The next level of indifference and cruelty by Shire Care and Stallingborough is beyond and comprehension for folks with morals. Kin have a thick folder of threats, bullying, and fraulent emails to prove this and more!!! We wrote to Shirecare in Nottingham to expose the cruelty but Kenneth's kin just got a threatening mail back (not a jot of standard academic practice or care in them) We started exposing 14.02.2012 so trust pilot calender doesn't apply.

Frontline carers are wonderful, but management fails them .
The frontline care workers at this company are fantastic, hard-working, and dedicated professionals who carry the entire business on their backs. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the management team, which is completely unhelpful, dismissive.
If you are a carer looking for an employer that respects both the law and your hard work, look elsewhere.
I've had to edit my initial review, they obviously don't like the truth.
One thing they can't flag is that some of these reviews were from staff, the company actively encouraged staff to review the company with positive reviews.
Any doubts about this just do a little digging.

I have worked with Shirecare since 2018 they are a really good company and very caring . All carers go above and beyond for our clients . The management are great . Nothing is too much trouble for us or them .

I have worked with Shirecare for a year now. I entered into caring with trepidation having read some of the dreadful reports about some care companies and the way staff were treated. I applied to Shirecare because the staff reviews appeared to be different and they certainly are. My work colleagues are wonderful. Everyone helps and looks out for one another to give the very best care to our clients. They are a joy to work with. As far as management go, they go the extra mile to fit in with my needs. Communication is excellent. They listen when issues are raised and will do thier very best to solve a problem. I feel supported and appreciated and would highly recommend Shirecare for both Domicilliary Care and as an employer.

The professionalism and compassion of the management and staff of this company are second to none in my opinion. They saved my dad from having to go in a home and I can now rest at night knowing he is well cared for.
