Been storing here for years with Citystore before it was Shurguard, now the staff are unhelpful and out-rite rude. Wouldn’t bother with them as as soon as you have any issues they will treat you exceptionally unprofessionally. Many other better and cheaper options around.

Very easy to arrange and very prompt in setting things up - it was all completed in just under an hour. Everything was set up as advised with clear instructions. The storage unit is very clean and secure. Very reasonable rates and well located. Overall a happy and satisfied customer.

First of all it's really annoying that you have to give them all your contact details (name, phone number, email, etc) to get a quote as initially I was only shopping around and getting quotes from different storage companies to compare. But as soon as you give them your contact details Shurgard will call, text, and email you relentlessly trying to get you to book with them which felt very pushy. They call you during work hours too which is far from ideal when you're at work. I eventually reserved and paid for my storage unit online and received all the corresponding information, everything seemed fine.

The emails I received said that the access hours for my storage unit were 7am-11pm. I arrived at 10:30pm thinking 30 mins would be enough time to find my storage unit, drop my things off, and leave as I didn't have that much stuff. I would've come earlier but between working 2 jobs and moving out of my flat I really didn't have the time and I trusted that I would have access until 11pm as that was the information I was given. At 10:30pm I typed in my access code and the gate to the building wouldn't open; I kept getting a message saying "See Manager" but there weren't any employees on site that late. I tried calling Shurgard but no one picked up as it was after office hours.

I then noticed a sign next to the gate that read "If this gate is closed please use other entrance on Belmont Street". I had to figure out where that was because I had not been given that address, it was dark, and I was in an unfamiliar area. The Belmont St entrance turned out to be only about a 5 min walk away, but when you're on your own, with no car (my uber had left already), and have several heavy suitcases and boxes to carry, those 5 mins can easily turn into 20-30. I couldn't carry everything I had with me in one go so I had to keep moving my things half a block down the street at a time and running back to get the other half of my things and repeat so it took me about 25 mins to get everything to Belmont St. It would've been nice if someone had informed me beforehand that after a certain time only the Belmont St entrance is open, and not the main entrance on Malden Cres which is the only one they give you the address to (the Belmont St address was not in any of the emails I received). Had I known that in advance I would've taken the uber directly to Belmont St and saved myself a lot of trouble.

After having to literally run with suitcases and boxes in tow I made it to the Belmont St entrance at about 10:55pm. I typed in my access code and again, the gate wouldn't open and I kept getting the same "See Manager" message. No one around to help that late at night. I noticed another phone number next to the keypad where you type in your code and called.

Thankfully someone answered this time, but after much back and forth I found out that they weren't Shurgard employees, but employees of the security company for the building (this was not made clear to me for a while). They didn't know anything helpful and at first couldn't even locate the storage site I was at despite me giving them the name and the "store number" written next to the keypad. They didn't even know what city I was in. These security company employees really did try to help but kept having to put me on hold or hang up and call me back because they didn't know anything. This went on for around an hour. The whole time I'm waiting alone in a dark street, late at night, in -2 degree weather.

Eventually one of the employees on the phone said that if the gate was closed it didn't matter if I had an access code, a manager/security guard had to physically be present to open the gate with a key (which I thought defeats the point of self storage and the access code). He said that the employees had left the site at 8pm that night and no one would be back until the next morning. Now I was really angry because why would you tell a customer that they'll have access to their storage unit until 11pm and that they only need their access code to enter the building if apparently a manager has to be present at the site to open the gate and they all leave at 8pm?

I ended up having to uber back to my flat after midnight, carry all my things back up the stairs, and carry them back down and into yet another uber to the storage site the next morning. I had to leave for the airport that morning too which made it all more stressful. I paid about £50 more in ubers than I should've had to due to these 2 extra trips.

In the morning the gate was still closed but the access code opened it just fine and there were still no staff members there. Not sure if the employee on the phone lied or was misinformed.

Do not use this company; the information they give you is inaccurate and incomplete, they're disorganised, there's no help outside of 9-5 Mon-Fri (which is when a lot of us work too), hidden fees (lock, insurance, admin fee), just a total mess.

Reception office was super friendly and nice. However, finding the actual locker space was a nightmare. Asked security guard many times and he had exact same answer, "I don't know" and he kept talking to someone. After about 1 hour of going back and forth we were able to find it and store it. Overall, it was very frustrating.

Your advertisement is misleading. It doesn't cost £1 first month. It costs at least £30 to rent a unit.

Your premises were inaccessible the first day. Yesterday was OK and today there were rude maintenance guys inside telling me I have to walk around and use the other door on the other side of the street.

I had to use a storage unit otherwise I wouldn't work with a company that just has no proper operating hours, such random access to units.

Update from my previous not so good review is; I got a response from the New Store Manager at the Kentish Town Branch. And he listened to my complaint and dissatisfaction. He managed to sort my issue out and I am happy with the outcome. Thank you D for all your help. I shall continue my loyalty to Shurgard.

No call backs when promised and abrupt unhelpful guy at Kentish Town

The company is big on the "Self" in its name. I got stuck trying to exit when it was closing time between my storage unit and the penultimate door. There are no safety measures to prevent this, no emergency or out-of-office numbers to call. I left a callback request and received nothing. I had to stay overnight in the unit till I could exit. This was my second unit as the first unit was cancelled the Friday morning I booked when the manager called me as I was en route to the unit to ask if I had seen his invoice email that made nonsense of the offer of £1 for the 1st month's rent (Classic bait and switch) I had booked and paid £31 online: £15 for admin (that would be calling & raising this email invoice) plus £15 for insurance would attract a minimum spend of a further £436 to meet the additional two months upfront requirement. I did not receive a refund just a cancellation email. I was sent a code that did not work, so I had to call the company and, after going through their security, had the code corrected on their end so I could use it. The entrance door nearer my unit did not work @ 7 am on Saturday as indicated, so I had to use the long way round. I would not recommend them. All in all a poor experience

All went good with Shurgard; a bit pushy with the contracts, but I guess that is the sales process. The customer service overall is good, and the storage location was as expected.

I found my first experience using Shurgard quite straight forward.

The only thing was, I went to the back entrance by mistake, when my unit was at the front.

Maybe it would be good to have a map on both entrances to get an idea of the beginning and end, if the map is hard to follow for some.

Otherwise, everything was found as explained.

I may want to get a bigger unit and was told that I would need to go into the office to change the contract. Can the contract not be changed online? Also the other thing is the lock packaging was hard to open thankfully a member of staff was able to assist me with this.

The storage is great size is very good, but parking around there is just a pain.

Incorrect codes sent - repeatedly.
The locker where I am based is full of water and puddles that I don’t want to know where came from down there 🤢 495X

The location is not accurate on Google Maps for the Chalk Farm storage facility. The facility itself is not open early mornings or late in the evening so if you're looking for something outside regular office hours, this is not your place. The nicest thing I can say about Shurgard is that the man who works in the front office was a kind gentleman and was very helpful.

Whilst the square footage was what i booked the dimensions were not and it was very relevant given the size of my items. Also accessing spaces can be very difficult with very tight corners.
