I visited the site to enquire about sizes and was very impressed, building is new and very clean. Will definitely be booking once ready.

I booked a unit via the website and this was easy enough, I had a few issues with my ID but i managed to speak with staff in site and they were very helpful and got everything sorted for me. Very happy with service and having extended hours really helps.

I made a booking online which was very easy to do, store staff were very helpful on the day and set us up with out of hours access via the app, would highly recommend.

Staff on site are very helpful, great to have late access to building. Super clean. Would recommend.

Lovely unit, great facility and great customer service

Easy sign up process, quick booking, very friendly and supportive staff on site. Only started to use the storage a few days ago but so far so good.

This review is for Shurguard Stevenage branch.

Since my first dealings with them a few months ago, they have been both competent and professional. Whilst this may sound like faint praise, more often than not these days it is actually my experience that services that I interact with are unable (or unwilling !) to do the job that they are being paid to do.

Whether this is because of lack of motivation due to poor pay and/or conditions, or bad management is not my concern. As a paying customer I want (and expect) a competent and professional service. To my delight, this is what I got from Shurguard.

Although all of the staff were professional, I would like to mention Mark in particular. I had an issue last week (not going to go into the details here) involving my storage room. After patiently listening, Mark came up with a solution that I had not thought of. He then sorted out all the admin necessary to achieve the solution, and worked through every setback that was encountered until we got to the end. All in all, he probably spent close to an hour doing this.

His professionalism and communication skills shone through. He was able to explain everything so that I could understand and answered all of my questions. I went in stressed and left relieved. Thank you !

Excellent storage unit. Perfect for what I needed. When I arrived the customer service was excellent, everything about the unit was explained and I was shown how to get there and how to use the app. Very impressed

So far I've had a great experience with Shurgard. The staff have been incredibly helpful, the units feel secure and it is clean and tidy.

Clean tidy and easy access with the app

Unfortunately, I was given wrong information by the main office and wasted hours trying to organise driving to my local branch to sign a transfer contact when it wasn’t necessary. I also tried to call the local branch 8 times but the call kept being redirected to other branches that promised I would be called back. The only saving grace was Mark at the Stevenage branch who was able to give all the correct information (which contradicted what the main office had told us) and was helpful and reassuring throughout. It’s such a shame that the communication had been so shoddy up until then.

It’s also a shame their response, rather than being reflective and apologetic has insinuated that the problem was on our end when their head office gave us incorrect information, leading to a day of stress and turbulence. As a result I have amended the review to one star rather than two. Again, I want to emphasise that the issue was not with the Stevenage branch (when we eventually managed to contact them, they were excellent), but with the main office.

Disappointed by Shurgard’s pricing practices! After just 6 months, I was hit with a 25% price increase on my unit. In today’s economic climate, that felt excessive and hard to justify — especially when inflation is in single digits.

I raised my concerns with management, hoping for a fair compromise. The response? A temporary discount for 3 months, followed by the full increase. It felt more like a token gesture than a genuine attempt to support loyal customers.

What’s most frustrating is how difficult it is to move providers — customers are effectively locked in, and that power imbalance doesn’t seem to be handled with fairness.

I hope others who’ve had similar experiences will speak up. Businesses should treat customers with transparency and respect, especially when they hold the upper hand.

Update: Shurgard responded with a generic offer to ‘discuss options’ at the centre. Unfortunately, this doesn’t address the core issue — a 25% price hike after 6 months with no clear justification. I’ve already tried to resolve this directly with senior management and was offered only a temporary discount. Disappointed that they’re not engaging more seriously.

Easy to book and access great and cheapest.

I spoke first with a member of staff at the storage unit. He was very informative and guided me through the rental application process and the app. He also showed me a couple of different sized units so that I could judge which one I needed and assured me that if I discovered that I needed a bigger or smaller unit, that I would be able to switch easily. Downloading the app was very straightforward. On the first day of rental, I spoke again with the same member of staff who finalised what I needed on the app and showed me how to use it. In a nutshell, access to the building and the lifts can only be gained through the app or a member of staff. The app’s very easy to use. It has your storage unit number, so if you press the wrong floor number in the lift, it won’t move! Having checked out all the storage units in the area, Shurgard is by far the most technically advanced in its security. You would think that this would lead to higher pricing, but I found them to be the most competitively priced. Very impressed with the whole shebang.
