 Total waste of time and unfit for purpose
A couple of months ago, I decided to take up a contract with Shurgard Wokingham to store some personal belongings. Initially, everything seemed fine the rates were reasonable and the process was straightforward. However, after only a short period, the rates almost doubled, which made me decide to move out.
Unfortunately, during this time, my family and I suffered the loss of a loved one. I informed Shurgard of my situation and asked if my contract could be adjusted on a weekly basis while I made arrangements to vacate the unit. Despite reaching out proactively, no one contacted me back. Instead, I was unexpectedly hit with a charge of over £104, which I found extremely unfair given the circumstances.
When I phoned to discuss the issue, the staff member I spoke to showed no empathy or professionalism, and even hung up on me. I found this behaviour completely unacceptable and unhelpful.
This is not the level of service you would expect from a business. My experience with Shurgard has been deeply disappointing unreasonable price hikes, lack of compassion, and poor customer service. I would strongly advise anyone considering using their services to look elsewhere, as there are far more respectful and understanding companies available

Greed overshadowed this experience!
Maybe the facility is clean, secure and solid but I’m extremely disappointed since I vacated my unit early, thinking I can still use it to keep stuff until my last day and then found that they terminated my account because I didn’t lock it!
Shurgard Wokingham UK simply self-terminated my rental abruptly, even though I was paid up fully until the 19th Oct. They refused to refund me pro-rata un-used days and it simply makes it hard not to believe that they already re-rented my unit to someone else which feels incredibly unfair and opportunistic.
My experience with the facility has also been consistently frustrating since we agreed on a rental amount of around £85 (including insurance) from day one, yet without warning or justification, they increased it to over £105 after 6 months. That kind of treatment feels exploitative, and frankly, I can’t help but suspect greed is driving these decisions.

OK ish experience
Staff helpful sorting a tech issue with access on day 1. Annoying that you have to use their lock and key (for which there is of course an additional charge).

The whole process of booking online was simple and slick. Download the App which give access to all security points. I was assisted by Richard who was very helpful in getting me started.
Competitive pricing and great experience.

No customer centricity - crap new payment process
Recent forced change of payment method from direct debit to continuous card payment poorly executed in terms of customer comms and takes no account of increasing the admin for customers to manage ongoing cards compared to direct debit management. Even if you change bank you can switch the direct debit using the cass service. Increase is customer administration time, decrease in convenience, poor communication for change, and no reduction in fees to compensate customers for a decision clearly based to only benefit the company. When I raised it with my storage facility it was laughed off and they clearly had no comprehension of what the change meant for the customer. Indicative of a company with no customer centricity.
only getting 2 stars as the facilities themselves are half decent, but I'll be moving out of principal before I have to change my card details at card expiry
