this app gave me ptsd to books it felt like a warzone logging in to read some unheard of book that could have been writen by a 5 year old. i just want to read my own books like add some books people want like vagabound

So my school does spark reader and we have to do 30 minutes of reading or get the 300 SRP so I think it would be helpful for your sparx homework to tell you how long you've read for.

My English teacher called this "happy reading" but let me tell you something, the rest of my Tuesday would be much happier without stupid sparx-to-the-reader 🤦‍♂️
Not only did i have a long, boring day at school with people being unnecessarily rude, but I have 300% OF READING TO COMPLETE 🤬 I need to come home to gain back my sanity and rest, not go home from school trust to work again. AND FOR WHO? "this is for yourself" they said. "We've already done our education, it impacts you!" They said...
just me, i'll rather eat bugs and stuff like in I'm a celebrity than do sparx reader ever again!

Short Answer: it sucks so much. No joke this is the worst online homework thing EVER, its so hard

I really hate this app. It takes at least an hour or more to finish the homework so if I'm in a rush I cannot complete it quickly it's time consuming which is a main factor of why I hate it. Another reason is that the book choices are not that great

Sparx Reader, you insignificant waste of a company, we already do enough reading in English. Although, every time I read down at Sparx Reader, I only realize how its slightly better than Sparx Maths. Although, you still have a few flaws, as instead of showing where you made a mistake on a page on the 2nd fail, you just continue on. Which isn't so bad, until we talk about Sparx Maths. As they don't show any guidance, and videos that are pointless.

Personally, in my free time, I enjoy reading quite a lot, and I can say that I despise sparx reader. My main problem with this app is that its giving me, and many other people I know, books that we do not like. For reference, we have to take reading age tests, and me and my good friend both got 17 (the highest score you could get). And then, after getting those scores, sparx reader has the audacity to recommend us literal children's books! A common example is a book titled "the Monster Spotters Handbook", which is clearly too young for us both and is quite frankly a little patronising! And any other books that aren't way too young for me are classic books, you know the type : Charles Dickens, Sherlock Holmes and Oscar Wilde, which are only appealing for a short amount of time before old fashioned talk bores you half to death.

If you consider yourself someone who dislikes reading, soley from your experience of sparx, I beg you to try reading books outside of school, as it can alter your life forever (personal recommendations include "Good omens" by terry pratchett + Neil gaiman and "the Book Thief" by Markus Zusak).

SPARX READER IS SO MUCH TORTURE

I use it at my school for my English Homework due weekly .
I find lots of things that are bad
You need to complete 100% of your homework . People make mistakes and you learn from them but Sparx does not allow that and that doesn't make anyone learn they can make mistakes . They also don't have what books I like . The books given are mostly Short Stories and have no interest to me . Even on gold reader , they still expect you to read those uninteresting books to get another Gold Reader Pass . Sparx is so slow to complete due to this and is honestly wasting my time . I hope this gets banned from schools .

As a person who uses Sparx Reader, I absolutely hate it. The fact that they have repetitive vocabulary words that don't even expand my own vocabulary speaks for itself. My reading age is 17 years old, and the vocab words I'm given, is that of a 7 year old's. The book choices are bad, and Gold Reader book setups are just so unnecessary. Most importantly, the 100% completion is so annoying. Sometimes, read 3 bits to finish my homework. Now, with a different book, I have to take more effort, and I probably have to pick a second book. I just think it's not worth my time at this point.

After picking questions based on your opinion, you have to do a few simple questions. It's all ok untill they force 4 terrible books down your throat that you have to choose from and waste way too many hours of your life reading for 3 times as long as it would usually take due to terrible questions. Sometimes I wonder wether the detention is better than doing that.

There are times when the book is so boring but I still have to complete a page, and it gives me 7% of the amount needed to complete the whole homework set! Disgusting, destroying my soul, and one way to ruin someone's like of reading. The amount of hate I have for this app has gone beyond even Sparx Maths!

The book selection is horrible and it constantly interrupts your reading and wont let you move on if you get more than one question wrong geniune rage bait istg

Hate when a page is actually decent but end up getting all the questions wrong because of minute details.

This website and overall company is what happens when you mix reading as a hobby with corporate slop. Everything in this website looks like it was geared to appeal to teachers that don’t know how stressful and boring this homework website is.

First off, no actual search bar??? That should be an obvious red flag because kids won’t be able to find books they love. And also, why are most of the books so unknown? I’ve never heard of most of the books they shove in my face. The genre searching method isn’t any better, they present you books that you will yawn while reading because they are the exact opposite of what you want (most likely funnelled down by ai).

After finding a book that looks like it could be good, you’re presented with a massive passage and you have to memorise ‘key phrases’. Once you’ve reached the end of it, you’re shown four questions that you have to answer to progress quickly with a points system ‘SPX’, but one of them doesn’t correlate to the book and makes it even more confusing for the kids reading. At some times, it takes roughly 30mins to complete the required amount of SPX for the homework to be considered completed, but for some it can take up to 1h or even more when the limit is 300 SPX.

Teachers, if you want your students to learn while reading, steer away from this website. Go back to the ‘old fashioned way’ by telling them to read a book they love and can feel. Putting them at a screen to read a book so boring and feel like torture won’t help them with their literacy skills (there are some unnecessary spelling mistakes that even a toddler wouldn’t make), but it puts them off reading altogether.

Don’t listen to Sparx’s lies. They make learning feel like slavery and teachers don’t understand the experience. So teachers, never introduce this to your school because it’s just low quality gimmicks slapped onto books kids don’t know or want to read. Let kids have more freedom with reading if you want them to have future jobs.

Shame on you Sparx, I could give this review -5 stars if I could.

Torture it's just torture no stopping just tears

The thing with sparx reader is that you have to get at least 3 or 4 questions right to get points and carry on with the book, so sometimes it doesn't matter if you get 0% or 75% on the quiz, YOU WILL BE REWARDED NOTHING. I kept on getting 3/4 or 2/4 questions right and sparx reader didn't even aknowlege that I was trying! you should at least get a few points for trying. I already hated reading but this is just awful for my mental health.

Sparx reader is horrible! One reason why i hate sparx reader is due to the lack of books that you can choose from. This is an issue because it restricts me to books that i find boring and uninteresting. Another reason as to why i hate sparx reader is due to how slow it takes to earn SRP (Sparx Reader Points), i could spend half an hour on a extract just for me to get close to no points due to me not getting every question correct first try.
