Taking legal action due to glass failing within 30 days of installation. Not one email, not one acknowledgment from any member. The 2 ladies that are on the end of the phone keep assuring us that their mystical managers will be in contact but nothing.

Spent over £800 for 2 thermal glass door panels one with a cat flap and beside ourselves as they failed/blew in less than 30 days of being fitted.

Ordered 11th March 2022, messed us around with delivery date quoted 4 to 6 weeks turned into fitting date 27th May 2022.

Glass failed by 22nd June 2022.

Still chasing our tails.

3 days notice before move in day and told it won't be ready

Not even got the chance to savor the joys of snagging issues yet (the majority of reviews on this don't fill me with confidence) however I have been let down constantly by this company who clearly do not care about their customers.

We were supposed to move in this Friday 29th April and with basically 3 days notice they have told us the house still won't be ready. This is the 6th delay we have faced from this company. We reserved our house in October 2021 and at the time were told the house would be built by December 21 or January 22. We are now looking at the 13th May to move in, 6 months later than planned.

I regret ever stepping foot in their show home. The houses look amazing, the experience of even getting one is beyond painful and has taken an already stressful process and multiplied it ten fold.

To make matters worse, because they insist on you concluding missives within 2 weeks of reserving the house we have now been in temporary accommodation since 31st March and our mortgage agreement expires in a few days. Given there have been 3 interest rate rises since we took out the mortgage, this will impact us financially too as Springfield absolve themselves of any responsibility through their Ts & Cs - almost as though they plan to fail isn't it!

If this stops one person going through what we have, I'll be happy. I wish we'd read some of these reviews before placing an order. I'm already planning to move as soon as my mortgage expires - some turnaround from what was supposed to be our forever home.

Poor sales staff at Blairgowrie

Marion the sales lady at Blairgowrie is very rude.

We travelled all the way from Perth to be told that the property was sold already. She should have contacted me! She knew that we were only attending the site for that one property.

Springfield sent me enough reminder emails about the appointment and Marion called to check that I was coming, clearly they didn't want their time wasted. However, they think it perfectly acceptable that my time is wasted and that I have the unnecessary costs of the journey.

The other thing is that Marion didn't bother to find out the plot size. On the phone I'd asked for that one piece of information, which she said she'd find out before I arrived. Despite her telling me that the property was sold, on my visit I asked out of interest what the plot size was, she didn't know so clearly hadn't bothered to ask the architect for that information.

Cowboy company who couldnt care less

Great company until they have your money! Do not even deserve 1 star. We have been trying to get patio doors fixed since moving in 4 years ago to riverside point braehead. The wind howls through the middle as they are not wind tight. Several visits by both "Sidey" the fitters and Springfields finest and they still could not fix them. Finally just before Covid hit Darren , a supervisor along with the "head guy" from Sidey came out, within 5 mins the problem was found, the actual frame was collapsing in the middle so the doors were "off". Arranged that both companies would rectify with the possibility of the doors being fully removed to enable repairs. Covid hit (although 2 months after visit). No contact at all from anyone, in Oct last year I sent an email just to make sure the works were still planned in and after a few emails finally got a reply saying they were waiting on Sidey. Darren had now left, new supervisor Colin decided that they could fix the issues themselves. The workmen that came out told us that Sidey were refusing to come out and Colin was not being truthful, they "fixed" the frame work but could not fix the doors. Colin came back out and still insisted on sending his joiners back out and no surprises, they couldnt fix the doors which by this time are warped. 3 full days of workmen in our house! Colin came back out again and left saying he would arrange for Sidey to attend. 4 months later we are still waiting, to make matters worse the joiners who "fixed" the frame have left the vents jammed tight against the plaster work and they cant even be opened, doors also stick now when opening, so they actually made the issue worse. Springfield have ignored every email sent to them, rude, unproffessional and completely lacking in any form of after sales service is actual giving them a better description than they deserve. This company do not stand by the Builders code of conduct at all. Never would I buy a property from them again, they are cowboy builders at there worst.

Sadly our experience hasn't been great…

Sadly our experience hasn't been great with Springfield. Four years after buying a new Springfield home, the outside rendering began falling off. We called in the NHBC who did a survey and reported that Springfield applied the rendering badly in the first place. Ball is now in Springfield's court to fix this, but they're not answering emails and hiding behind "we can't answer the phone because of COVID" excuse. We're hoping it won't take legal action to get this solved, but right now, their customer service is basically non-existent. So just be warned: their homes look great, but the build quality may be questionable and the support if things go wrong is woeful.

Don’t just read the bad reviews

I can’t comment on the bad reviews but I am surprised after my experience. I moved into my property at Bertha Park Perth 2 years ago and while there have been some issues and still some outstanding snagging (due to COVID-19 delays) Springfield have always been on the end of the phone and where they can, have fixed the issues. I’ve currently got painters in doing the work for the final snagging list from last year and they are doing a great job and I’m confident the other minor issues I have outstanding will be rectified. I feel that the quality of houses and fact you can choose your own paint, flooring etc makes me glad I chose this company for my forever home.

Email received from managing director with fully spelt out profanities

The company are great until they get your money. Once we were handed over to after sales, it was clear that no care was given in rectifying the work. We had 5 pages filled with snagging. I was presented with the house on move in day that had broken window frames, blown windows fitted, a broken garage door, and areas of the house weren’t done to plan. The gutters weren’t long enough, the garden isn’t flat with a steep bank. The back of all the bathroom sinks were not siliconed. They used wood screws for the bathroom units, which soon resulted in the doors breaking off and damaging the carcass. But they blamed that on us saying that we had gone and changed all the screws and refused to fix it. I moved a kitchen door on plan but they left the light switch in the middle of the room. They said it was my fault for not changing the light on the plans. They were refusing to have it moved and simply said that “they’d make sure not to make the same mistake in future”. They seem to forget that the potential purchaser is not an architect and I’m paying them to do all of this. Shouldn’t it be basic enough for the technical drawers To adjust the light switches to be adjacent to the door? They also refused to fix the items that were not to plan. Instead they blamed it on myself and the choices coordinator stating that I had changed the plans to be how they had done the work, but hadn’t changed them on the actual plans. Why would any decent building company do something that isn’t on the plan? We then reported them for the shoddy work and they were forced to rectify the room according to the approved plans and compensate me.

The guy that came to fix my windows told us that he had been told to bodge it. They needed replaced but he’d been sent with a tube of silicone. Silicone was also their idea for fixing my garage door.

My partner was trying to contact our after sales contact to get things fixed, but she was always out or busy. Even when he went to reception to ask for her, the receptionist called her saying who her visitor was, but then we were told that she wasn’t in. My partner swore as a result of the frustration. He did apologise straight after it though, but this is the base of Innes Smiths email where he offers his version of what happened and what was said. Now, there’s one thing swearing accidentally during a conversation, but when you apologise and explain that it has risen from frustration of nothing being done to rectify the issues, and the person on the receiving end graciously says she understands and accepts said apology, that’s one thing. However, when you are emailing someone and are planning on swearing during your blurb of text, you have a choice. You can use a few asterisks to hide the vulgarity of the word or you can reword your email completely to create a professional email. But no, Innes Smith chose to send the email with its fully spelt out profanities. He’d have had the opportunity to read it over or consider a more professional act, but he made the conscious choice of sending it without any changes to it. The email read as a tantrum and I made a conscious decision not to engage any further with someone who would think nothing of communicating with a client in written form, using such vulgar words. That says so much about a persons character, and also reflects badly on the company. I think he forgets that he is still only an employee at the end of the day and his choice of words represent the company and their owners. He didn’t seem to care when I told him that buying a house is the biggest investment anybody will make, and therefore if they are willing to take the money, it should be done right.

We’ve had various other Springfield staff look at our problems who have been in full agreement that things need to be fixed. But everything has to go through the staff contact we had, and she was quite adamant that we weren’t getting them fixed.

I would never buy another Springfield house and I’d happily encourage others to do the same. I know that the latest developments aren’t even getting the correct insulation in the walls. Springfield are cutting corners to save themselves money. Buying from Springfield will leave you with years of stress as you fight to get things fixed. It doesn’t matter if the house isn’t perfect. They only care about making sure they meet deadlines to get their bonuses. It’s all sheer greed.

Avoid like the plague.

Avoid like the plague.
Pages and Pages and Pages of snagging. We had an independent investigation done. The plans weren't followed proplerly and on visiting the Council Offices the house should have been built in a different way! The site people call you a liar to your face when you are showing them a leak. They left leaking showers, subsiding brickwork, cracked brickwork, a hole in a brick wall covered up by a light fitting, scratched glass, wrong sink, stained vinyl, wrong radiators fitted, no insulation, faulty shower screens and doors due to incompetent fitters who came out 5 times before the manufacturer came out to fit it. Meant to be our forever home but we couldn't even put pictures up due to constant remedial works which always caused more problems. I.e replace shower screen, dent door frame, scratch paint on walls, rip vinyl etc etc. Building inspector at Renfrew Council never bothered to inspect so missed the huge wall hole. Lawn was poor quality and just died despite us caring for it. Held hostage in the home for over a year with a diary of constant visits. Half didn't bother to turn up. Pipework was so old you can't buy it anymore so god knows where that was from. Roof left with holes for wildlife to nest in. This was the worst and poor quality purchase I ever made. I kept voice recordings of site managers bullying me when they came over telling me they wouldn't fix anything because they weren't interested. Complained to NHBC,reported Springfield electricians to NICEC for faulty wiring, reported site manager for wiring thermostat up dangerously having not been a certified electrician, reported electrician and builder for covering up a hole in the wall with a light fitting. Gave us half a bath panel with a 3 inch gap at the bottom and said it was standard. Treated us like fools. Not one of the Management up to the Director gave a crap about any of it. I recieved exceptionally rude emails. They do not care whatsover and will tell you anything to see you buy a house. They sell you unfit for purpose bathroom cabinets that you can't put anything in because not even a small bottle fits and then they sell you room fittings that aren't there when you move in telling you they never said they were standard, then they will lie about ever having the conversation. I think the best one was accross from us where they built basically half a house where nothing worked and has no insulation, nothing fitted and then it turned out the plans had been breached and no completion certificate was available as the house was never signed off. Took the owners a year to get the house bought back - at cost! No compensation. This house is still empty as the builder refuses to either bring it up to code or demolish it. The kids park on the estate on the site office, well, they left all the nails and junk and garbage on it them just tipped loads of soil onto the site concrete. This then causes road floods due compacted soil and concrete baset and has dangerous garbage underneath it. The gardens are compacted, they tell you they aren't but I had a vidoe of them doing it which I set to them. I sent them a lot of videos that they denied. I have never observed such cowboy builders until I sat in my office in the house watching them. I couldn't lave my office as I was constantly waiting for site staff. This ruined a year of my life.

Disgusting.

Let’s balance up the reviews......

Feel it’s perhaps time to balance up some the negative reviews I’ve read about Springfield. We moved into an Ardmore semi, Hamilton Road, just over a year ago Plot 28. Sure, there were a number of snagging issues with glass, paintwork etc - to be expected with a new build. Waiting for visits by sub-contracted firms could be a little frustrating & require a bit of patience - but Springfield never at any point said that our needs/demands were unfounded. Staff at Aftersales ( Greta/Tracy/Darren) have at all times responded positively to our needs.
The quality of work by sub-contracted workers was generally good. Springfield employed tradesmen in particular - painters / joiners - have been excellent. Our end of year snagging work (plaster cracks etc) was completed quickly & very efficiently by Craig & Stevie over the last 2 days, and they cleaned up perfectly before they left.
Okay, we have one or two other jobs outstanding, but I have every confidence that an e.mail to Aftersales will be positively received & will be acted on.
All in all our relationship to date Springfield has been a positive one.

This was the worst home buying…

This was the worst home buying experience ever.
Purchased a new build home in Elgin to our spec which was delivered on time, but 5 pages of complaints for unfinished work and poor workmanship, such as damaged windows, ill fitting bathroom units with doors falling off, lack of paint on walls, and gutters that leak. It has taken 2 years to get it all sorted out, and even then, they have refused to sort out some of the work.
The after sales staff are the most incompetent, dishonest people you will ever meet. Their goal in life is to fob you off, and save the company money. I have had a permanent struggle to remedy all the faults, although the staff that came to do the work were great, their hands were tied ie only paint patches on a wall rather than a whole wall when repairing cracks.
In our choices, we asked for a door to be moved. They moved the door, but left the light switch half way down the wall... when questioned, they said we won’t make that mistake again but initially refused to move the light switch until we got increasingly angry with them.
It’s been a very stressful experience, and has tainted our house, to the point where it’s never going to be a home.
Please avoid the hassle. They will promise the earth then when they have your money, turn into a penny pinching lying monster.

Absolute pathetic and joke of a company…

Absolute pathetic and joke of a company cowboy builders. The worst experience I have ever had dealing with a company. I bought a property in 2014 hoping to be a dream home with my newly wed wife, thought Springfield will be a good option as they had won awards for there service. Bought a townhouse in Braehead, Renfrew. we had issues immediately but within months we had a leak in our garage, we contacted Springfield who sent out someone who I shall not name, he pretty much told me that it was not really a leak even though there were damp marks on the ceiling, after much arguing they decided to look closer and said it was bone dry and there wasn't a leak and deemed the matter closed. Since then we have contacted Springfield numerous times for that same leak and they come and look and sometimes remove the plasterboard but yet say there is nothing. Fast forward to 2018 we contacted NHBC who put us back in touch with Springfield bare in mind Springfield knew about the leak because we had constantly communicated with them regarding it. Springfield decided that they will first rip apart the balcony and refit it. they put the scaffolding up in July which is still up right now in Nov 2018. The balcony refit made things worse leaks were worse it damaged a lot of our stored items and floor and ceiling. The communication from Springfield was horrendous they gave you a days notice expected you to be there even though we are a working couple they claim to send out people and no one shows up yet Springfield argue the work is done. None in management that we have spoke to seems to care about our situation no one in staff seems to be willing to give straight answers. We have been in this property nearly 5 years now yet we have not completely moved in as our storage is all over the house because we cannot use the garage a big part of our storage has been water damaged with massive sentimental value, we are in a limbo. 2018 has been a waste of an year as we cant go anywhere its like we are prisoners in our own property because we have to wait for Springfield to contact us for them to send people when they decide while we are here in the dark. The stress of this has been severe and now we have no choice but to take legal action against Springfield as they do not seem to care otherwise we have been waiting nearly 5 years for them resolve this leak. I honestly hope if you are looking for a home you do not experience what we have experienced. Springfield has proven time and time again not just to me but my neighbours that they are not a trustworthy company. They have ruined half a decade of our life. Please beware of Springfield. They turned an experience that was supposed to be happy and memorable into a trip to hell.
