I chose Strong Home Mortgage because I found David to be very responsive and they lowered their rate to better match a competitor quote I shared. I was fairly pleased with the speed of underwriting and engagement with David until the actual day of closing. Everything nearly fell apart on closing. We had planned to have the deed in our revocable trust's name and all title paperwork appropriately reflected this. The mortgage documentation did not. The title attorney and realtor blamed it squarely on David and Strong Home Mortgage and David never disagreed with that assessment nor provided a counter argument to me. It seemed as though David simply didn't talk to the title attorney nor realtor leading up to the closing; he didn't even realize there was an issue until my realtor called him the morning of closing. The amount of stress it created on my wife made me never want to use Strong Home Mortgage again. I was in California for some Army training so I was desperately calling David. As I stated above, he never provided any details on what happened or why it happened. When I told him the title attorney and realtor were blaming him and the mortgage company he simply replied with 'glad you closed.' We did end up closing that afternoon (same day) but the deed was not titled how we had preferred and we had to pay an extra fee to the title attorney to redo their paperwork. I cannot in good conscience recommend Strong Home Mortgage to anyone else and I am extremely unlikely to use them again.

Strong Home Mortgage needs to be on your list of companies to compare.

If you are like me, who finances your home purchase isn’t that important. A lot of the time your loan is sold to another mortgage company or investment firm after a couple of months. What is important is the interest rate, number of points, and the total cost of the loan.

I started working with Brian Matteson six months before we listed our house and eight months before we purchased our new home. He could have said to call him when we got closer to purchasing a home, but he didn’t. Instead, he sent us periodic updates on what interest rates were doing. Brian was always available to talk as world situations evolved. He understood that in the end we would use the most cost-effective mortgage company. He only asked that Strong Home Mortgage be given an opportunity to match or beat any other offer.

As a retired military, I was pursuing a VA loan. In the end, Strong Home Mortgage had the best rate with the lowest points. An additional benefit was that Strong Home Mortgage only charged $1175 loan origination instead of the standard 1%. Also, if I refinance using the IRRL program there would be no loan origination fee at all with the refinance.
