I purchased the meat and chicken drumsticks from this shop, and I was extremely disappointed with the quality. The food tasted very strange, as though it may have been past its best or spoiled. After eating it, I became very unwell.

I am extremely concerned about the quality of the food and the potential risk of food poisoning. Food hygiene and safety must be taken seriously, as serving food that may be spoiled can have serious consequences for customers’ health.

I would not recommend this shop based on my experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously, reviews its food storage and hygiene practices, and ensures that all food sold is fresh and safe to eat. Customers should never have to worry about their health after purchasing food.

I have bought from Tariq Halal in Leyton on a number of occasions, and to be fair, I have also had good, fresh meat from them. Unfortunately, my latest experience has seriously damaged my trust in the shop.

This time I bought marinated chicken wings that were being sold on offer at a surprisingly low price. I did not realise there was a problem until I started cooking them. Once they were heating up, there was a very unpleasant "off" smell coming from the chicken — definitely not what I would expect from fresh, clean chicken.

By then I had already spent time preparing the food and had gone through much of the cooking process, using electricity and other ingredients, only to end up having to waste the whole lot.

Afterwards, out of curiosity, I looked through other customer reviews and was concerned to find a number of people describing similar experiences involving meat or chicken that they believed was old or no longer fresh.

It also made me think about something I have noticed when shopping here. Sometimes staff strongly recommend particular items or encourage you to buy something specific. Previously I thought nothing of it. After this experience, however, it makes me wonder whether some products being actively recommended may simply be stock that needs to be sold quickly. I cannot say that this is definitely what is happening, but experiences like this inevitably make customers question it.

The bigger problem is transparency. Looking at a meat display, how is an ordinary customer supposed to know what was prepared today, what has been displayed for some time, and what may already be approaching the end of its safe or acceptable freshness?

I think Tariq Halal should introduce a much clearer system showing customers when fresh meat was prepared or put on display, together with appropriate use-by information where applicable. Customers should not have to guess.

What particularly bothered me was that these marinated chicken wings were heavily discounted, yet I was given no indication that there might be any issue with their freshness. Had I known what I discovered once I started cooking them, I certainly would not have bought them.

This is ultimately about trust. When you buy fresh meat from a butcher, you are relying on the business to make sure that what is being sold is fresh, properly stored and fit to eat. The customer cannot inspect what is underneath marinades and seasoning or know how long something has been there.

As I said, I have had perfectly good fresh products from Tariq Halal before, which is why this experience is so disappointing. But once you have bought chicken that smells off when cooked, it makes you question the rest of the display: Which products are genuinely fresh? Which have been there for some time? How are we supposed to tell?

I hope the management takes complaints like this seriously and improves its freshness checks and transparency. A halal butcher should not only inspire confidence in how the meat is sourced, but also in its freshness, handling and quality.

Unfortunately, after this experience, that confidence has been badly shaken.

Meat was dated 2-3 days BEFORE use by date and had a strong rotten egg smell, sulphur like, and slimy. Also it was supposed to be 600g and was only 458g not quality at all!

Javed in the Romford branch is a deceitful and arrogant staff member that needs development in how he engages with customers. Has no urgency and does not know how to prioritise is workload. Deems it appropriate to make up prepackaged meats rather than serving the 4x customers that were waiting for over 10 minutes as the only staff member behind the counter. Lies and says he's the only person there when there was another person peering through the rear door window countless times. A shame that your staff aren't as good quality as your meat.

This meat is not halal, it stinks , I’ve had to throw 80.00 worth of meat in the bin. Would not recommend it and service is appalling. The boss is intimidating towards his workers, speaks to then like rubbish resulting to them getting orders mixed up.

Moved in Ilford on January 2016. From January 2016 till now. I always shop my meat from Tariq halal. Awesome meat quality and great customer service. Their butchers are kind and helpful. Chicken, beef, veil, mutton, lamb, deli, cooked frozen food, frozen samosas, rolls, herbs etc..every item is always fresh. From last 2 months, I am ordering online as I can’t go to their shop due to health issues. Their online ordered service is really easy to use. Meat always comes well packed with ice packs. Fresh meat as usual and always delivers on time. Really pleased with their service. Once you order from Tariq Halal…you will never regret. There online facilities are really great and helpful if you can’t go outside in extreme weather.

Extremely disappointed with my order.

I purchased a whole chicken, two packs of chicken sausages, chicken mince and chicken breast steaks. The chicken mince had a foul smell when opened and appeared to be off despite still being within the use-by date, so I had no choice but to throw it away.

The chicken sausages also had an unpleasant smell and a strange sweet taste, which immediately raised concerns about their freshness. As a result, I did not feel comfortable eating them.

I still have the whole chicken and chicken breast steaks in my freezer, as I froze them on the day of delivery, but I am now reluctant to defrost or consume them because I no longer trust the quality of the products supplied.

The meat was not cheap, so I am out of pocket and left with products I do not feel safe using. At the very least, I expect a refund and an apology for the inconvenience and concern caused. But by the looks of other reviews they appear to care very little if at all!! I spent £30.25 NEVER AGAIN

Based on my experience, I would advise others to exercise caution and thoroughly check any products received or simply just avoid this butchers.

Now there is a complaint I need about their weighing machine showing an extra 100g
So apart from misleading customers with false price labels you get 100 grams less.
The only people that rate these scammers 5 stars are family and friends, true customers rate this place 1 Star.

I had a really bad experience at Tariq Halal Meat today in Bethnal Green.I had to wait almost 15minutes for the lamb mince to be ready because nothing was prepared. I then bought 1 kg of lamb mince for £23, which is extremely expensive. Is the lamb mince made of gold or something? I honestly don’t understand why it was so expensive. I’ve never paid that much money for 1 kg of lamb mince in my life.

The customer service was very rude, the meat did not look fresh, and the place did not look clean at all. When I asked why it was so expensive, they could not even give me an answer. They are completely ripping people off. It’s disgusting.

I will never come back again, and I hope people stop going there too. Very disappointed.

ROTTEN SMELL FROM GARLIC HERB MARINATED Chicken.
bought from their newly opened shop at Chelmsford, spend almost 40 £ on 1st grocery, garlic and herbs drumstick were smelling v v bad. Cooked for good 1 hour in grill and then fry ,still stale smell.

We regularly order meat and poultry from Tariq Halal St John’s Wood through Deliveroo, but today’s experience was extremely disappointing.
We ordered Piri Piri marinated boneless chicken thighs, but instead received very large pieces of boneless chicken leg containing tough drumstick meat — definitely not proper thigh fillets as advertised. On top of that, the chicken tasted off and did not seem fresh at all.
Since Deliveroo does not make refunds straightforward in these situations, we called the shop directly. The staff member we spoke to was rude and dismissive, insisting the meat was “thighs” when it clearly was not. We were simply told “we cannot refund you,” and when we said we would never order again, the response was just “ok.”
Only afterwards did we realise there are no visible review scores for this shop on Deliveroo, which feels very misleading for customers relying on the platform.
Very disappointing experience from a place we had ordered from regularly.

Spent over £100 on meat, on reaching back home found the chicken was rotten and smelled horrible

No prices on the meat. I bought some meat and without checking paid. They charged me for a 1.076kg mix lamb £18.28. for a product which says 99p on the bottle I was charged £1.49.

This business honestly needs to shut down the meat is rotten and they don’t care about people

Iam writing to express my concern regarding my recent online order placed today. After placing the order, I received a confirmation email, which I appreciate. However, when I called the customer service number provided to reconfirm my order details and delivery schedule, the representative who answered the call seemed unaware of my order. Although I provided my order number, I did not receive any clarification, and unfortunately, the call was disconnected without any explanation.
I am particularly concerned because I requested that my order be delivered on Monday instead of Sunday, as no one will be available at home on Sunday to receive the delivery. During my call, I was informed that there was no information available regarding my order or my delivery request.
I have also sent an email to your official email address regarding this matter but have not yet received a response. I kindly request you to please confirm:
Whether my order has been successfully received and processed.
The confirmed delivery date.
That the delivery will be scheduled for Monday instead of Sunday as requested.
I would appreciate your prompt response to resolve this issue, as this experience has been quite disappointing so far.

visited Tariq Halal Meat in Hounslow to buy masala fish, but my experience was extremely disappointing. One of the workers completely ignored me and kept me waiting for over 20 minutes while continuing a personal phone conversation. There was no acknowledgement, no apology, and no attempt to serve me.

Due to this unacceptable behaviour and lack of basic customer service, I left the shop without purchasing anything. I have never experienced such poor service in a retail environment.

I will not be returning and would not recommend this shop to anyone who values respect, courtesy, and proper customer service.

First time and will be my last time to go there. Absolutely unacceptable and dangerous.
I visited this butcher in Bethnal Green for the first time and bought chicken. As soon as I opened the bag at home, the smell was horrific. The chicken was clearly very old and off. There was no way it was fit for human consumption.
I threw it straight in the bin, not even an animal should eat meat like this, imagine human, as it could cause serious poisoning. I am genuinely concerned to think that people could unknowingly cook and serve this to their families.
This is not just bad service, it is a serious food safety issue. This place urgently needs to be inspected, and in my opinion should be shut down before someone gets seriously ill.
I will never return and strongly warn others to stay away.

Not value for money! Ordered quite a few items for delivery the most disappointing item was there so called smokey hickory sausages paid £3.99 thinking they were proper sausages but what arrived was a pack of small and I can only describe as cocktail size sausages! If they are not a decent size there description should say that! Really disappointed won't be ordering from here again. Pictures on website very misleading and description of products really poor, if you take into account the delivery charge as well your paying over £6.99 for 14 cocktail sausages! I've divided the £9.99 delivery charge between the 3 items I purchased. What a rip off!!!

We bought some meats from Ilford Tariq halal, they advertise 2kg for £18, but charged us over £23 and yet weight wise it was less than 2 kilos.

This wasn’t just one item, on multiple items they overcharged!

The quality of the meats wasn’t the best either, more bones and gristle than actual meat!
When I told him he dismissed my concerns!

Disappointed with them! They should be reported to trading standards!
Safe to say we won’t be buying from Tariq again!

Best quality meat and British sourced! Always have the best customer service and quality that I’ve seen around, all the 1 star reviews seem to be from people buying from Sainsbury, who have their own meat handling protocols so I would take it with a pinch of salt and go try for yourself
