I was able to get testers for my app and get my app approved without any issues the first time. I had friends and family in my test as well, so that probably helped. This gave me some good initial feedback, though that really helped. I would say, ultimately, it's good to have friends and family test your app thoroughly, but these testers help you hit the # quota, and will give good initial cursory feedback and suggestions.

Update: I used the paid service for 3 different apps. All 3 made it through approvals without any issues. Hats of to you guys!
