AVOID - NOT TO BE TRUSTED: Health Check mis-sell lateral flow testing as PCR testing and their sampling technique is so poor that a known positive person tests negative. I paid £40 for a PCR test at Health Check in Rayners Lane after eleven days of positive lateral flow tests at home. (NHS guidelines state I would no longer be infectious after ten days, but I wanted a PCR test to confirm the presence of Covid, to enable me obtain a Covid recovery certificate in the future, if required for travel, e.g. to USA/Canada). The Health Check tester swabbed both my nostrils very briefly around the entrance, rather than rotating for the swab several seconds higher up the nose. They then very briefly dipped the swab in a plastic tube of solution, making no effort to transfer material from the swab to the solution, then discarded the swab. I did not see where they put the sample next, but both the swab and the plastic tube of solution looked identical to those used in my home lateral flow tests, and different to the swab and test tube type I have previously seen used for PCR testing. I later received an email from The Health Check saying that my so-called "PCR" test was negative. Not surprising given the poor attempt to obtain a suitable sample. I went home and did another lateral flow test, which was positive. I then bought a PCR test from Boots, which involved taking a nasal sample at home and sending it to their lab for analysis. The Boots PCR test was also positive. I live alone, so it is very unlikely that all of my home tests were contaminated by Covid from anyone else. If you need a Covid test to protect your loved ones or fellow travellers, don’t rely on HealthCheck.

Dear EA, We take all tests very seriously and we also appreciate feedback both positive and negative that help us. In your case, it is apparent you came to our clinic knowing you may be positive. This is against our terms and conditions as this can put both staff and other customers at risk. Whilst your intension was to seek a recovery certificate, this would never have been the case as you knew before taking the test that you were positive, hence the reason you went home as you say and did another test. It would have saved time. money and effort if you had done that test before coming. Unlike other test providers we refund or issue coupons to customers who are unable to take the test e.g (flight delayed, positive before coming).
All tests have a small percentage that come back as either what is known as a 'false negative' or a 'false positive'. This is just the nature of the test. In your case a false negative which is much more likely than a false positive has occurred. There is never a single reason behind this.
We however have taken steps to investigate and take necessary actions and measures that the swabbing methods are done properly and SOPs followed.
We therefore thank you and wish you a fast recovery.

Fast and easy. Me Shabir was fantastic and welcoming and very helpful. He was patient and explained the necessary processes clearly as well as provided reassurance for the service to meet the fit to fly requirements. He gave us his contact details and allowed to us to feel comfortable that we will receive the results by the end of the day and was diligent to in taking the sample to ensure there was no error in the results.
