Travelers Denied 43% of Documented Water Mitigation Costs - Claim #JAQ2273
After experiencing water damage in September 2025, I filed a covered claim with Travelers Insurance. While they ultimately approved the rebuild work, Claims Professional Alex Lesones and his manager Lisa Tully refused to pay $2,671 (43%) of our contractor's documented mitigation invoice.
Our contractor provided moisture readings, photos, and detailed documentation for $6,200 in necessary work including removing 100-year-old water-damaged materials. Travelers only approved $3,529.
The adjustment process was exhausting:

First, they said IICRC standards only supported 3 days of drying (our documentation showed 4 were needed)
Then they claimed two dehumidifiers weren't needed for rooms on separate floors
After pressure, they "found" another $900
Finally, they refused the remaining $2,000 claiming the "water category" didn't warrant basic cleaning procedures

They never provided policy language excluding these services or documentation of their "water category" assessment. Each time we pushed back with facts, they changed their reasoning.
We're now forced to pursue complaints with the Illinois Department of Insurance. We pay premiums expecting coverage for legitimate claims, not to fight for every documented dollar while dealing with water damage stress.
If you have Travelers, document everything and prepare to fight for fair payment.

This Company raised my monthly Car Insurance payment from $161 in 2024 to $221 in 2025. Their pretext for doing this was a claim I filed that involved mt backing into a trailer on a side street. The total repair was $843 of which I paid my $750 (deductible). I am a Senior Citizen with good credit and an outstanding driving record. Stay away

The worst company. Their policyholder was responsible for hitting my car and refused to pay my 15 day rental car expense. Refused to return my calls. Scam!!!

I wish I could give negative starrs. My 74 year old mother has been waiting roadside for 4 hours after locking her keys in her car. She has been given one excuse after another. One tech said he couldn't unlock her door, and he never even showed up. Ridiculous lies, horrible customer service for something that should have taken 20 minutes. She ended up calling a private locksmith. Horrible, horrible!

ScrewTravelers. We had a furnace A/C unit leak in the attic on a less than 6 year old house because the builder didn't install an intact pan under the unit, and had water damage in our ceiling and insulation. After over a month of not hearing a damn thing from our adjuster after filing the claim (nothing resolved yet), these bastards sent us a non renewal notice. 6 years of premiums and they cancelled us after a claim. This should be illegal. I'll never give them another cent again.

Worst customer service ever. They don't even try. If it were not for my agent I would not use this insurance. I let my agent deal with them. No point trying to talk to these people, they are like a back end that needs an agent to interface with. If you don't have an agent just get insurance somewhere else.

Anyone have advice on dealing with an insurance company. Tracked down the driver who hit and ran on my car. Travelers sent me to a captive shop - Gerber Auto. Travelers denied OEM parts despite WAC 284-30-390 requiring restoration to pre-loss condition.

Big time scammers. Bought a car from them on auction. They started the car with no oil and broken engine, just for the pictures. The car needs new engine. It was labelled Run and Drive. Don't do business with this scammers!!!

In the beginning, this company was fantastic. Got an amazingly cheap policy for my auto, my agent was very friendly. Couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, I had an accident (I was at fault) and my policy went up which is fair, and common. The problem is, when my claim was paid off, my insurance stayed the same. It didn't even go down a penny. When it was all said and done, it was nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone on the phone. Always had to play phone tag with agents.
I started shopping around for new insurance companies and got a good deal at Progressive. Of course, Travelers made it difficult to cancel on purpose. Had to call to cancel, the representative I spoke to was very rude and she felt annoyed to speak to me. Not only did I have to cancel through the app, but I also had to call, then email, and then e-sign some papers which took more than 24 hours to receive. It's almost as if they want me to forget about canceling so they can bill me twice.
My main issue with this company is the fact that they are nearly impossible to get ahold of, and are outrageous with pricing.

They'll cancel your policy knowing you have to get it back with one of their buddies.

First time using our homeowners insurance with Travelers and last time using them!
I’m assuming during some high winds or storms over last summer, the flashing around our chimney loosened a little allowing water seepage to get behind it.
Can you believe that we don’t walk around on our roof or look at the flashing around our chimney?
It wasn’t until spring when we had our chimney cleaned that the chimney swift noticed that all of the stone was starting to crack and pull away from our 35 foot chimney.
I called the stone Mason to come out and give me a quote to have it all torn down and redone.
At that time we didn’t know about the flashing. We couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the stone because we had it around our foundation and around our garage doors and none of it had pulled loose?
When the workmen were up on the roof, that’s when they discovered that they couldn’t step between the chimney and the back gutter because the roof had gotten soft from water leaking under the flashing and under the shingles.
I called our general contractor, and my husband and him both looked in our attic and saw the saturated plywood under the shingles.
Lots of pictures lots of documentation and then a lot of runaround!
It took Travelers approximately 2 1/2 weeks to tell us no no no!
Apparently, the only way they cover water damage is if it’s a sudden birthed of water as in maybe a pipe or an appliance leaking and the leakage is less than two weeks.
So I’m out $21,000 between the roof fixed and the stone resurfacing and our homeowners policy is a damn joke!
The only investigation they did was send a kid out with a drone to fly over our house, which showed nothing because the chimney was tarped off once the stonemasons saw the loose flashing.
We had to bring in roofers to correct the roof problem before the chimney could be finished.
This homeowners insurance policy is a little used to me. Our house is costly and they basically picked our pockets because they didn’t cover a dime.
Please, please please do not use this company!

Cancels policies once claims are made and doesn't pay those claims, even though the damage is clearly insured. Travelers has done this one three of my properties. I always pay on time. Travelers can't even be bothered to respond to inquiries about the cancellations. Total scam.

Avoid these sharks. I submitted a theft claim with full supporting evidence, including proof of purchase, security compliance, Datatag verification, and even voluntarily attended a recorded interview with an investigator. Despite this, I was subjected to invasive and irrelevant questioning that went far beyond the terms of the policy — including why I’m not on the electoral roll and personal questions about my family.

After fully cooperating, I was then told a second third-party investigation would be required — without any explanation of what was missing from the first. When I asked for clarification, I was told I wouldn’t receive one until after the second interview, and that my claim would simply be “put on hold” if I refused. Consistently being given information that completely breaches FCA rules.

Still awaiting a decision on my claim. Even when trying to find out if they have received my formal complaint, the switchboard states they have no complaints department!? Emails and phone calls to the so called 'complaints department' listed online that does not exist go unanswered.

This is not how policyholders should be treated. I feel bullied, ignored, and left completely in the dark. I am now escalating to the Financial Ombudsman and reporting to the FCA. Travelers has shown no regard for fairness or transparency.

Travelers should not even be in business. I wonder why consumer protection is allowing this people to remain in business. They are very poor with handling consumer relationships. They are manipulative and act illegal.

Travelers insurance is the worst car insurance company I have ever experienced in my life time. They will mess up your policy and when you cancel your policy and find another insurance company they act like little children and report you to the dmv plus report you to collection agency
because you dumped there sorry butts and got a real insurance company to fill your needs. Would never recommend Travelers insurance not even to my worst enemy!!!

I was a long-term client, as they provided the policy for property I had in Virginia. I informed the many days in advance that the property would be sold and I needed to cancel my policy. They said they wanted to wait ‘til the actual day in case anything went wrong. I agreed.

The closing day came, and then seven more days passed. I heard nothing from them. I carefully explain to them once again that the property had been sold and I wanted to cancel. They gave me these lame excuses about having to go down this path and that path, etc. etc.

Long story short: they're playing the float with my money. They hang on to their client's money for as long as they can, making all kinds of excuses. Then, after you go through the ordeal, apparently get your money. It's been 12 days since I closed on the property I still don't have my refund, so make your own assessment as to whether you want to work with this group or not.

Charged us $1200 a month for auto insurance.

Inconsiderate, dishonest thieves.

Been with travelers for years as single with no accidents/claims and now married and because my wife had an accident in 2023, can’t get their insurance anymore. She has her own separate car insurance as well. So much for “loyalty.” Just another reason to just shop for the cheapest option.

Been with the Fine Insurance Group for years, once we switched to another insurance company I guess we were not worth shit.
Changed over to progressive in November of 2024, BECAUSE IT WAS CHEAPER, told Stacy to cancel our policy with Travelers.
She didn't, because I didn't send her an email, but she was told on the phone!
Now we are getting collection notices for a policy Stacy should have cancel, no email should have been required, she was told on the phone and said she would take care of it! We have text to comfirm.
I guess that email bullshit gives them some extra money for their condo in Florida.
After all the years we have been with Jason and Stacy, and came back to them after the Farmer’s incident, that they would do this to us.
