My family and I LOVE TruLocal. We have been loyal TruLocal customers for years now and honestly there is nothing like it! We love the roasts and ground beef, and we also love knowing we are supporting our local farm community. YUM YUM YUM! We also love trying new meats and different dishes! Also - SPECTACULAR customer service.

Should have started using Trulocal years ago
If you buy meat strictly based on price, then Trulocal is not your you. It is expensive, but for that price, you are getting locally raised meats and sustainably sourced seafood, not factory farming type meats from unknown suppliers that you typically see at the grocery store. With Trulocal, you can see where your meat comes from because they tell you who the supplier is. For us, that is important so the price is worth it. Plus I don't have to go to Costco anymore for chicken, that place is my nightmare.
We have been very impressed with the quality, this is certainly better than your typical Costco or grocery store meats.
Shipping for us in Kingston, ON is next day with Fedex. With the subscription, Trulocal is very flexible, you can change the items in your box before it ships and change the frequency of your order. They send you an email remainder before it ships.

We had paid for a medium box and had picked up good cuts of meat, and were quite excited for some good beef having lived in Alberta for years and moved out east. Unfortunately, it did not meet anywhere near our expectations. First, the package date was 1.5 months past when we got it, and the meat was extremely chewy, and that’s speaking for “high quality” beef. We had got a holiday box for my father in law for Christmas, and gotten us a box at around the same time. Both the quality of meat in both boxes were so disappointing and no where near decent quality meat. Not to mention past dated too. We were excited to move forward with trulocal when we placed our order, but unfortunately the result didn’t turn out ok. We had higher expectations than low quality chewy meat.

Since the products are blast frozen at the supplier level, they can be stored in your freezer and enjoyed for up to 12 months from the day they were packaged on.
We rotate our inventory frequently and try to keep as little "extra" packages on hand as possible to ensure our customers continue to get fresh products in each and every box.

Exorbitantly priced
Exorbitantly priced. Take a look at the grass-fed beef prices at Farm Boy or Loblaws, and you will be shocked at how much you are overpaying. But the most disappointing thing about this company is that they use unethical practices. Quantity can be changed without changing an already absurd price. So you think you're ordering 8 sausages, but you'll only get 4 for the same price. Secondly, they frequently change their recipes without notifying their customers! As a result, you think you're ordering what you've been ordering several times before, but instead you're getting something completely different. For example, in the past, their mild Italian sausages were very tasty, but then they decided to make them 300 times more spongy and spicy without telling you about it. Right now I am stuck with 4 packages of sausages that nobody can eat.
Update: Before writing a review, I contacted their customer service, but they were unhelpful. They just gave me 1,500 points that I can't put in my pocket.

Our prices are definitely more comparable to boutique grocers, with the added convenience of direct-to-home delivery plus the local factor. Given the rising costs of meats, dry ice, packing materials, shipping and labour, we do try our best to offer competitive prices in comparison to other direct-to-home services available.
Transparency has always been a top priority of ours. Product descriptions, pack sizes, ingredient lists, and nutrition facts can be found directly on our website so our customers can pick and choose the products that best fit their needs.
I'm terribly sorry about your recent experience with the Mild-Italian Sausages, that's certainly not the experience we strive for. If a vendor modifies a recipe, it's typically because of feedback received by customers and in an effort to improve customer satisfaction however, they'll usually notify us when doing so.

Update: I'm seeing that you updated your review! Thanks so much for those additional details. I was able to find your email thread with our team member. I'm so sorry you were unhappy with 1500 loyalty rewards points as compensation. Typically, we'll offer a replacement package(s) or a credit in the form of loyalty rewards points that you can use to redeem complimentary products or dollars off your next box.
That's no problem at all though, Olya. I've gone ahead and swapped the loyalty rewards points for a refund on those packages instead. Refunds are issued automatically however, may take up to a few days to reflect on your card. If there is anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to reach out.

The best. I have been ordering from TruLOCAL now for quite a while and love the meats, the services and the fact that I am saving money! I bought for my boys and wives for Valentine’s Day and they both loved it! I will remain a customer for a long time! I have also ordered the bbq package and I am set for my family coming to visit!
Side note. I was living in York Region area and all my orders were delivered in about 2 days. I have since moved to northern Ontario and still get my order in 2-3 days!

So you hand inspect all product before going in thee box. How does 2 ribeye steaks cut by a 5 year old is my guess. You 1/2 inch thick on one end to 1/8 inch thick at the other?

Really good product
The company I work for bought everyone a trulocal meat box of their choosing, to say good job. Im not sure how much it costed and it took a month to arrive but the meat is absolutely delicious! The best cuts for sure. I'm not really a order to my door type guy cuz anything dropped at my doorstep gets porch pirated (stolen) I had this delivered to my work. Not sure if I'd order personally due to this but very good product.

truLOCAL for LIFE! Best meat subscription box ever!
I have been ordering from truLOCAL for nearly 3 years. Regardless of how many years it has been, it still feels like Christmas morning opening their carefully packed boxes of delicious-tasting meats! Some of my favourites include ground buffalo, roasted red pepper and garlic chicken, turkey burgers and some of their newest additions; perogies, wild game meat sticks and jerky!
I love the fact that I have the option to customize my box every month. The products might be different, but the quality and customer service will always be top-notch! Can't wait to see what you guys add to the menu next!

Opened packages and tears
Got 2 boxes. First one seemed great. Second box arrived and a bag of scallops was open and all over in the box. Also a package of our elk burgers had a hole in it and was no longer vacuum sealed. Meat quality is pretty good but they need to get their packaging under control.

Packaging is done at the supplier level before it arrives to us - we hand pack each box and inspect each item before it is packed. However, given the nature of shipping, sometimes small holes or tears can occur when the products move around in transit. Some packaging holds up better than others, it really depends on each individual supplier's size and packaging capabilities! It's definitely something we keep track of and report back to the suppliers we work with.
Please know that small holes in the packaging shouldn't compromise the quality of the product. However, we completely understand that it can still be an unpleasant experience, especially if it made a mess like the scallops did! We are so sorry about this.
Looking into your account notes, it looks like our team has already spoken to you and offered a solution that we hope was satisfactory. truLOCAL is awesome.
truLOCAL is awesome.. it is so convenient to choose items in my subscription and have them delivered to my front door.. They have such a wide selection to choose from (sometimes I even have trouble doing so) from your basic chicken and beef cuts, to lamb and bison. Another reason I love truLOCAL is because everything (except the fish) is local to Alberta.. I love knowing where my food is coming from.. It can be a little pricey, not far off from your farmers markets where you can find these products… but having the knowledge of which farms my meat is coming from outweighs the costs! Their customer service team is wonderful, always willing to help when needed.. I love truLOCAL!

Better than going to the store!
I ordered my box pre-christmas, got a box for myself and for a gift. The options were great, and the message from my giftee was absolutely overjoyed. I was going to make this a one time thing but after shopping around found that not only was truLOCAL competitive but were better in some areas plus free delivery, could not beat that.
I will keep you posted on how the saga continues!!
