Why did I pay for a damp survey …
It was fairly obvious that I had a damp problem on the interior walls of the gable end of our bungalow as part of that wall had an attached garage it was confusing. We also found a small mushroom on the rear wall in the small unused bedroom. I decided we needed professional help from a surveyor and found one online. I paid £40to do a survey. His survey told me I had damp! Then offered to send a quote from the above company and explained I needed to see a builder and re plaster both rooms on the gable end. The quote was around £3000 no mention of the mushroom or the danger of not exploring and dealing with that.
I’m totally confused about what a qualified surveyor is supposed to do.

It appears I have given the wrong name for which I apologise. The quote I received from the company had a detailed report embedded in it which I couldn’t open. I have now seen the report and in fairness it is detailed but as I sought further quotes and had the work done elsewhere I had no work done by the company so cannot comment on what might have been done. Indeed from other reviews I assume the work would have been satisfactory,however.
The fact remains I thought I had employed a surveyor to give me advice, which I got, along with a quote for the work.

We have only recently become aware of this review, as we did not receive a notification from Trustpilot, which is why we are responding now.
For clarity, the survey was not carried out by Mr Hammond. Mr Hammond works within our administration team and dealt with the booking/admin side. Your appointment confirmation and the report both confirmed that the inspection was carried out by Steven Robinson.
The inspection was arranged as a damp/specific defects inspection. The report did not simply state that damp was present. It included our findings, recommendations and a sketch plan. It identified external defects, dampness to the walls, plaster degradation, salting, shadow banding and cavity wall insulation. The report also advised that a local builder/roofer should inspect and repair the external areas to make the property watertight and help prevent further moisture ingress.
The report also made clear that this was a non-destructive inspection. Where areas are concealed, built in, or require opening up, further destructive investigation would require the property owner’s written permission.
After the report and estimate were issued, our office sent a follow-up email on 25 March 2026 offering further assistance and inviting any questions, queries or feedback. We did not receive any response raising concerns or asking for clarification.
