Appalling Customer Service
I rang Village Vet on Friday morning as my cat was very unwell and not able to use the litter tray, he was screaming in pain. I had been recommended from a client that the vets were great, which is true the vet is great.
But, the front of house receptionist, their customer service is zero. Both ladies were rude, and treated me like dirt on the phone. They should be sacked and go get a job somewhere back of house, away from dealing with customers.
I pay £25 every month for two cats and neither of the receptionists, wanted to hear what I had to say. They wanted to get me off the phone, they did not care that my cat was in a lot of pain.
In the end I had to take my cat to PDSA in Bow. They were brilliant.
It is a disgrace that you hire, people with no people skills.
Although I do value my particular vet
Although I do value my particular vet, Sheldon at the Highgate Branch, and the staff there are all lovely, I dislike, intensely, the chain as a whole. Village Vet now are owned by Linnaeus, who are owned by Mars Petfood, and that greedy, money focused, soulless corporate ethos extends right down to grass roots level. Prices - appallingly high - are globally set, and this extends to the commonest everyday items as well as to medications and to all fees. I have felt the influence of that control grow over the years. Despite my particular head vet's knowledge and skill I would not advise anyone to use a Village Vet practice, because there will be an inevitable push on spend, coming from higher management
The fact that according to Trust Pilot's stats, the company HQ doesn't even reply to the huge number of negative reviews they are getting, says it all really. Obviously chains like Village Vet have been in the news of late - for all the reasons expressed in the negative reviews - on investigation by the Competition and Market Authority - for their collective take over of a majority of the shrinking independent vet market, and the creation of monopolies which fleece people and their beloved animals. It seems that Village Vet scores the lowest of all those chains. If only my particular vet was an independent vet, I know I would not be posting a review which says 'avoid' because it is the Village Vet EMPIRE which is the toxic entity here
Good care but ripping us off
The care my cat has received at Village Vet Palmers Green has always been great. Staff are also polite and kind.
However it stung to be charged £67 for a flea treatment that I then saw online, the same amount for £15-18.
When I called to cancel the order and ask for a prescription instead, they said, do you want to cancel the worming tablet as well? I had never asked for a worming tablet, but they had still added it on the cost.
Are they owned by private equity, I wonder?
Outstanding care
I’ve been bringing my dogs to The Village Vet in Pitshanger, and I couldn’t be happier with the care they receive. The vet who we have recently been seeing, Jordon is incredibly attentive and always takes his time to examine my dogs thoroughly, never rushing through appointments. It’s clear that he genuinely care about the animals and want to make sure nothing is overlooked.
I really appreciate how patient and reassuring he is, taking the time to explain everything clearly and answer any questions I have. It gives me great peace of mind knowing my dogs are in such capable and compassionate hands.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a vet who truly goes above and beyond for their pets.
Village Vets
Hi all. This is a serious warning to anyone with animals and please pass it on. We brought our dog to Village Vet in Kildare Town (formerly Grey Abbey Vets) on Friday for his annual vaccinations. A couple of hours after we came home he came to me and he was rubbing his face with his paws. I noticed his face was swollen and his eyes were glazed. We brought him straight back and he was put on an IV drip and kept in for several hours. They said it was a reaction to the vaccination and admitted it had changed and was the only one they could now use since the take over by Village Vets. They said tests proved that only 1 in one thousand dogs suffered a reaction. I have since found out from an independent vet that it affects 1 in 250 dogs. If I had not been at home the dog would have died. They actually gave me a laugh on the way out as they presented us with an additional bill of 88 euro on top of what we had paid for the vaccination. I won't tell you what I told them they could do with their bill. It's too rude 🫣. As I said please pass this information on. He seems fine now but we were luckey. We asked for a meeting with their manager but not even a phone call so far. Thanks for caring
Poor customer service - Avoid
I had to use St Albans practice as an emergency service when my beloved dog was sadly dying. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the most distressing experiences I have ever had dealing with a veterinary practice.
After my dog was cremated, the practice lost her ashes. When I raised this with the practice manager, it was dismissed as a “miscommunication.” I was also told that drivers collect ashes and medication without properly logging what has been taken, and that these items can be left in vehicles overnight. I found this deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable given the sensitive and irreplaceable nature of what was being handled.
Losing a pet is already heartbreaking. Having to chase a veterinary practice for answers about where your pet’s ashes are only adds unnecessary stress and distress at an already difficult time. Throughout the process I felt the situation was not treated with the seriousness or empathy it deserved.
The practice eventually offered a partial refund as a gesture of goodwill, however it took over 12 weeks for that refund to actually be processed.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this practice. I hope they urgently review their procedures for handling pets’ remains and ensure proper tracking and accountability so that no other owner has to go through this experience.
Worst vet you can find
Worst vet you can find, poor service, useless advice and high prices on top...
worst animal vet ever
worst animal vet ever, run away from this guys not only they are very rude and hang up on you but they messe up the bookings and then the treatments for my dogs. Goodbye, just lost another client!
Shocking lack of care
I have just had a very upsetting experience here. My dog was in great pain so i rushed there for an emergency appointment. In my haste i forgot my phone (with Apple Pay) so i asked them to let me pay for the pain killer over the phone when i got home. They refused as they said they do not give "credit". The medicine was £30 (£3.59 on line). We are a member of the practise and are on their health plan so they have all my details. I even offered to leave my very valuable watch as surety! They were prepared to let my dog go home while whimpering in pain in order not to give "credit" for what can be bought for under £4 for the 20 mins it would take me to get home. (It was too late to go home and come back again that day ). When i questioned this , i was told that it was my fault i forgot my phone and it was unacceptable that i was making my dog's suffering their responsability. I know that there are a lot of complaints about the greed of these vet chains and Village Vet are amongst the most guilty here, but the lack of care and human kindness is a whole other story. I have obviously left the practise now. I could not have anyone look after my dog who has so little care for animals and so little kindness. The reception was empty otherwise i am sure a stranger would have offered to cover me as i would if i were to witness this. Not many people would be able to watch a dog suffer unnecessarily, but Village Vet did not seem to mind at all.
If I could give 0 stars I would
If I could give 0 stars I would. Money orientated, zero compassion, sadly only choice out of hours and had 4 dealings with them now and every time they may as well put the card reader on your dying pet. Heartless and unsure how they are that cold.
I am leaving this review to document
I am leaving this review to document my experience and to help other pet owners make informed decisions.
My German Shepherd was treated at this clinic for an ear condition and prescribed a course of prednisolone. Although there was initial improvement, the original problem returned and my dog subsequently developed widespread dermatological issues including severe itching, skin lesions from self-mutilation, significant coat loss, and noticeable weight loss. The situation became serious enough that she now requires continuous use of an Elizabethan collar to prevent further injury.
I raised these concerns with the clinic and requested resolution, however I did not receive a response that addressed the extent of my dog’s deterioration or accepted responsibility for the outcome. I have therefore sought further veterinary assessment elsewhere.
This review reflects my personal experience. Based on what occurred, I would strongly encourage other pet owners to carefully consider treatment plans, ask detailed questions about potential side effects, and seek additional opinions where systemic medication is involved.
I hope this feedback contributes to greater transparency and accountability in veterinary care.
100% trust in Village Vet Winchmore Hill
I brought my cat in to see the vet for a lump on his nose and eye in December 2025. The vet suspected that it may be a tumour. A blood test and x-ray confirmed that it was and she discussed the options available. I was able to choose a third party for the chemo treatment which was able to be continued at Village Vet Winchmore Hill so that my cat did not have the stress of travelling far. In a nutshell, everything was done to save my cat but unfortunately he was too far gone and was losing the battle. Village Vet helped me to make a decision that was best for him as he was struggling to breathe. Each member of staff was empathetic, understanding and talked through the whole process. Even in his last hour, he was placed into an oxygen enclosure where he was made comfortable and I was then able to sit with him on my lap. In his last moments, he was in my arms and could hear my voice. The staff at Village Vet did everything possible to minimise any distress in his last moments for me and also for him. They have proved time and time again their integrity by advocating what is best for him. I trust them 100%.
An honest and caring practice
An honest and caring practice that will be able to guide you through difficult situations. Never felt that they were overdoing things for the money and I do feel the care they have with my dogs.
When I unfortunately got to this A£E…
When I unfortunately got to this A£E for my cat injury they told me the cat is very purely and probably going to die. After i paid for initial pain treatment 500 and they confirmed nothing was broken, they also said they are not giving me the cat back and the cat needs to stay under their supervision in in client and for one day the cost is 1k pounds. When asked how many day do they think she’d need to stay they said they don’t know, when I I asked if it would be like 10 days they said no, and that 2-3 weeks is also unluckily. Me being unable to afford this treatment they made me sign and agreement to give off the rights of my cat ; while refusing me to take her home or even to another vet!
Lack of Follow-Up Put My Dog’s Health at Risk
I have never written a negative review before, as I generally believe most people are trying their best. Unfortunately, my experience with Village Vet Hampstead put my dog’s wellbeing at risk due to a lack of organization and poor clinical follow-through.
I attended this clinic despite seeing several negative reviews, hoping my experience would be different. Unfortunately, those reviews proved accurate.
I provided Village Vet with my dog’s full clinical history from the US. Despite this, they refused to prescribe the medication she needed to treat an active UTI until lab results returned, assuring me the results would take 24–28 hours. Three days passed with no communication. I went into the clinic in person and was told at reception that they would follow up with the lab and contact me. I still heard nothing.
I returned again the following day. At that point, I still had no answers about her cultures and no medication was provided—yet I was charged £150 regardless.
The lack of urgency, communication, and accountability was deeply concerning, particularly given that this involved an untreated infection. I am sharing this review to help other pet owners avoid a similar experience.
For comparison, Highgate Veterinary Clinic was an excellent alternative. The vet was compassionate, thorough, and spent approximately 45 minutes with me and my dog to ensure she fully understood her condition and treatment needs. They are independently run, which may account for the clear difference in care.
Village Vet
Village Vet – A Disappointing Experience
On my first visit to the clinic to book an appointment, the lady at the reception looked at me as if questioning why I was there the moment I walked in. When I asked for some information, I was met with a very cold and unfriendly tone. At the time, I didn’t think too much of it and assumed she might just be having a bad day.
On the day of the appointment, there was a different person at reception who was quite polite and chatty. She processed the procedures in the system. As my kitten was only 8 weeks old, the necessary internal and external parasite treatments and the required vaccinations were administered. However, no appointment date was given for the very important second dose vaccination, despite the fact that payment was taken immediately.
During the consultation, while I was trying to ask the vet questions, I found it particularly uncomfortable that the vet kept explaining their monthly subscription system instead. I had specifically requested nail trimming when I first booked the appointment, but apart from the vaccinations, no other procedures were carried out.
In short, if you truly care about and value your pets’ health, I would strongly recommend staying away from this clinic. They are far from professional. I had to urgently find another vet for my kitten’s second vaccination and had it done elsewhere.
What was even more upsetting was their response instead of trying to make up for their mistake:
“All the vaccinations will have to be repeated.”
This left me with the clear impression that their priority is not animal health, but the money they make. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience.
why did my honest review disappear? ?
For some reason my review from February this year has been removed.
All I wanted was to warn others not to use this practice if they care about their pets.
My cat received no treatment except some useless and overpriced medication. The vet was clearly inexperiened and didn't know how to handle a large cat despite me explaining the situation while making the appointment.
It takes a considerable effort to bundle my cat into a pet carrier and bring him to the vets in the first place! Imagine my dismay when no treatment was carried out and instead, I was advised that he needed a very expensive dental cleaning. Really?
I pay the extortionate consultation fee for getting this advice?
An excellent mobile vet that I found after being let down by QP Village Vets did examine my cat and confirmed that he didn't need any dental treatment at all!
Shame on you Village Vets for treating pets and owners as the source of cash and nothing else.
BTW... even if this post is removed I'll keep posting on all the platforms as long as I live in this area. And warn all other pet owners I meet in local parks.
Extortionate prices
I rang a couple of days ago to enquire about getting my dog's teeth cleaned. I was quoted £1000-1500. After I regained consciousness, I rang the vet where we're registered outside London. They quoted £250-400. I then rang the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital at the RVC, where our cat is registered. They quoted £550 with the caveat that that might increase if extraction was required, though they said that was unlikely given my dog's age.
I've also now clocked that I can buy 3 months' worth of my dog's Nexgard and Millbemax tablets from Pet Drugs Online for less than £30. Today I paid Village Vet £112 for these. Insane.
In fact, I left Village Vet years ago when I discovered that every passing thought about my late cat's health had been added to his record, which made him uninsurable, even though he was never investigated or diagnosed with any of these hypothetical concerns. I returned during Covid when they were the only vet I could find who could offer the puppy vaccinations we needed.
To be fair, while reception staff always sound mildly irritated, I've had some good care at Village Vet, in particular when my dog had an eye injury. But the prices are insane, extortionate and unjustifiable. A single visit here makes it clear why private equity are buying up chains of vet clinics: they are pure profit centres.
There's something acutely unpleasant and cynical about exploiting people's worry about their pet's illness or injury, and the lack of options other than these chains, especially in central London. So I'm off once again.
