appalling response from Sarah on reception
What should have been a lovely evening watching the eclipse at Woolacombe Bay ended with us discovering that my car tyre had been damaged, with three cuts in the sidewall.
I completely accept that vehicles are left at the owner’s risk and I don’t expect Woolacombe Bay to be responsible for another person’s actions. What I do expect is some basic empathy and professionalism when something like this happens.
Unfortunately, the response from Sarah on reception was incredibly dismissive. When I reported what had happened, Sarah pointed out that I had parked in an EV charging bay, as though this somehow explained or justified what had happened to my vehicle. I hadn’t deliberately parked there and only realised afterwards, but regardless, parking in the wrong bay clearly does not justify somebody damaging a vehicle.
When I asked about CCTV, I was also told there was little point checking because they wouldn’t know who they were looking for. I was essentially told there was nothing they could do and to call the police.
I did. The incident was formally reported and PC Alexander subsequently confirmed that the CCTV unfortunately doesn’t cover the area, so no further action can be taken.
I’ve stayed at Woolacombe Bay several times and other members of staff have always been friendly and helpful, which makes this experience even more disappointing.
The damage to my car wasn’t Woolacombe Bay’s fault. The way I was treated afterwards absolutely was within their control.
Sadly, it’s made me seriously reconsider whether I’ll return.
False advertising, hyped up to be something it’s not, staff are bullies
We stayed at Twitchen House 3rd-10th August. Our first and last time. I have many things I want to address, the main thing being the discrimination. I was advised in an email to put a note on our account in regard to any special requirements, i.e disability needs, etc. I tried to do this, but couldn’t find a box to input the requirements, so asked the bot on the website who advised me to email. I emailed my requirements and received a response back from a lady named Margaret, to say there’s a note on my account and the reception team will be aware of my requests. Amazing I thought.. Or not.. nothing was done for us. I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, my Mum is near 70 and also suffers Fibromyalgia, Arthritis and various other issues and neither of us can stand long periods or walk very far. I am yet to purchase a power chair and we came to Woolacombe fully on public transport. The caravan we were given was far from the amenities, it was quite a trek to get to the amenities every day across uneven stony grounds.
The website says the three parks are close to one another (a 15 minute scenic walk). We decided to try to do the walk one day and it’s far from 15 minutes. This is a complete lie to make the parks look good. False advertising in fact. Not only is it a very long walk, it’s up hills, across stones, uneven grounds, through woods, mud. It’s a massive trek, not just for disabled people but abled people also. It’s also not a path, as advertised. It’s a very confusing mud, stone, grass, everything but a path trek with no signs or signals telling you where to go. We bumped into many others’ struggling to find the place. Nothing is clear and many were going the wrong way. It took a nearly hour, a lot of pain and suffering to get to the other park. Disabled or abled. It’s not a 15 minute walk (verified with Google Maps also). We did this trek because we thought it wasn’t far and because there was apparently a “treasure hunt” at the other venue. Said treasure hunt was a show on stage.. two men and a woman dressed as pirates.. no hunting for treasure, no treasure. Our 3 year old, who is non verbal didn’t underhand why he didn’t get to search and find treasure. Instead, he was given sweets and had a meltdown afterwards. This was a very stressful experience for us all. We were also the only family there. It was embarrassing to say the least, cringy, weird feeling and so not worth the hour trek. The whole place was empty. We just felt stupid and out of place. Again, this is false advertising.
The beach, another lie. More false advertising. Your website states it’s a 15 minute walk or 5 minute taxi. We spoke to one taxi driver about this and he explained that the park say that to make it look good for them. False advertising again. Hyping themselves up to be something they’re not. It’s an hour walk or a 15 minute drive. Again, confirmed by Google Maps.
We had many issues while staying at Twitchen House, including discrimination and staff laughing at us. We didn’t feel welcome from day one, having to struggle in pain and drag our seven heavy suitcases up a massive hill, across uneven grounds to the caravan. Not once did anyone try to help or make things easier. Yet, apparently, there was a note on the account. Not only did we have to struggle every day to get to and from the caravan, but we had issues within the caravan. The cooker, which kept going off half way through cooking, several times, then packed up completely the night before we left, the plug sockets were buzzing electric sounds and one socket didn’t work, a light in the main bedroom didn’t work, there were no oven trays, nothing big enough to cook pizza on, most activities are paid and stupidly expensive (I’ve never paid more then £3.50 for the trampoline thing in various other places), the outdoor pool is the smallest pool I’ve ever seen, the pools rules are ridiculous “no solo swimming”, “no floats”, “no balls”.. might aswell say “no fun”. Contradicting since the mascot is a beach ball! The whole park is a huge scam. All lies and false advertising to hype it up to something it’s not. The wave surfer just looks ridiculous and the expense just to fall off of a bodyboard is crazy.
Nothing is clearly marked. Like where to eat. Nowhere does it say where we can eat out, locations of the places we can eat, etc. when we did find the food places, they all have “all day delivery available” but none say how to order. Nothings clear. Where’s the entertainment? Another thing not clear. The map doesn’t say these things specifically. We’ve just got to guess which place the food is in or which place the entertainment is in. We were new so had no idea.
This isn’t even half of my review! See on other sites. Including a child nearly DYING in their hands.
Poor WiFi morning till noon
A successful family-run business, but the guest Wi-Fi appears to have been left behind
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Village Limited is a long-established, family-run business operating a major holiday-park operation in Woolacombe. Publicly available financial information indicates that the company operates on a substantial scale, with turnover reported at approximately £17.7 million, cash reserves of around £12 million and net assets of approximately £37.3 million.
The company has also publicly reported continued growth, with bookings increasing by 6% during 2025 and forward bookings for 2026 already running 10% ahead. In addition, the business has completed a £10 million investment programme, including major improvements to accommodation, swimming facilities, attractions and other guest amenities.
This makes the continuing failure to properly address the guest Wi-Fi even more difficult to understand.
As a broadband, Wi-Fi and mobile communications technician with more than 20 years of experience, I have tested the guest network during our stay. Based on my professional experience and the testing carried out, the guest Wi-Fi is being throttled and does not provide the level of performance that guests would reasonably expect from a service advertised as “superfast Wi-Fi”.
I fully understand that a holiday park can experience heavy demand during peak periods. Hundreds or potentially thousands of guests may be using phones, tablets, laptops, smart televisions and other connected devices at the same time. However, this is not an unexpected situation. Peak-season demand is predictable, and a large, successful holiday-park business should ensure that its broadband capacity and guest network infrastructure are designed to cope with it.
The issue is not whether the company has demonstrated an ability to invest. The company’s reported financial scale, continued booking growth and £10 million investment programme show that substantial investment is being made throughout the business. The concern is that investment appears to have focused heavily on visible attractions and facilities while the guest broadband and Wi-Fi infrastructure has not received the same level of attention.
Families are paying substantial amounts for their holidays, often hundreds or well over £1,000 for a stay. When “superfast Wi-Fi” is used in promotional material, guests are entitled to expect a stable, reliable and reasonably high-performing service—not a throttled connection that becomes slow, unstable or unusable when the park is busy.
A properly planned investment in additional broadband capacity, improved backhaul, upgraded Wi-Fi access points and better network design could significantly improve the experience for thousands of guests. Given the size, growth and investment capacity of the business, it is difficult to understand why this issue has apparently remained unresolved for so long.
The park has many positive features, but the guest Wi-Fi is a serious weakness. The company should now give its broadband infrastructure the same level of attention and investment that it has given to its pools, attractions and accommodation.
Woolacombe bay bronze level caravan
I stayed in a bronze level caravan in late July, so it slept 6 and was still 1250 for the week. We had a great location for our caravan, just off to the side of the reception which had an amazing view of the hills and beach. My 75 dad with Parkinson's was with us and having a caravan that close to everything (as the site is very hilly) and an unbelievable view blew us away on the first night. When we settled down the next day we realised that the caravan itself wasn't great. Excellent shower, but the beds were so unfortunate. I'm 5 11 and was in one of the twin rooms and my feet were on the edge of the bed. I usually sleep well but I really struggled all week. The couch set up was very cheaply done as well. We spent a quiet night in one evening and I had to use 3 bed pillows to sit on the couch just to get comfortable. It was a shame because it was a great location but i was never able to feel comfortable with the beds and seating being so cheap. The actual site itself is a lovely location. We had 2 days on the beach, which is a short walk and a large sandy one. The onsite activities were a bit of a disappointment. We took the kids disc golf and they gave us the cheapest plastic frisbees. They hadn't marked out the holes and we had to invent our own hole layouts which didn't matter much anyway as the frizbees were so cheap it ruined any fun. Went table tennis and again they provided plastic bats, must have cost 50p each. The foot golf was the same. No markings or anything. Didn't know where a hole started and just had to invent our own round. Real shame that they don't spend a small amount of cash to run the events properly. Outdoor pool was good, and some decent slides. Not really sure why they shut it at 6pm each night during a lovely summer where it gets dark at 9pm. They only run the flumes for 30 minutes every hour, same when I went to the spa. Had to sit in a jacuzzi for 15 minutes waiting for it to turn on. Guess they are saving money, and unfit showed. Decent place overall, just a shame they have skimped on a lot of the little things, and it does show
Best caravan park
Best caravan park I have been to great facilities and staff
Ignore the bad reviews
Ignore the bad reviews. This place is the best. Very clean loads to do and we are already booking for next year. Big shout out to Liv on the upstairs bar. Friendly and always smiling. All the staff are amazing at what they do. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Do not book and stay away!
As with others on here booked and a few days later for personal reasons felt we may need to cancel; when I asked what would happen simply told we would get nothing back.
I questioned this as I had paid in full yet only need to pay a deposit; response was what ever you have paid you will not get back.
This is outside distant selling rules and the consumer rights act.
Clearly a business that does not want to succeed… shame on you!
Was booked into the park for 11 nights…
Was booked into the park for 11 nights this April in our motorhome. Unfortunately we are in the process of moving house and all the stress that brings with it. At the last minute we found out our chain was back together and was told that things would move quite quickly. We contacted woolacombe holiday park to see if we could just move our booking back . And they have told us NO . Apparently because we didn’t spend the extra money to protect our booking they can’t do anything for us. It’s Just a pitch we were booked on that we haven’t even been allocated yet. All we wanted to do was move the booking because of our house sale. We didn’t want to cancel. For a site that supposedly styles itself on looking after the customer you have a funny way of showing it . Apparently we can give the booking to someone else and let them turn up but we can’t just move it too later in the year. What an absolute rip off. We was so looking forward to our holiday to get away from the stress of moving and all they’ve done is kick us in the teeth because of Somthing out of our control. Shame on you woolacombe holiday park.
Very Disappointing Stay – Standards Have Seriously Declined
We have been returning guests for many years, but sadly this will be our last visit. On arrival, our caravan was in a very poor state of cleanliness — breadcrumbs were left on the surfaces, cupboard doors were covered in greasy splashes and food drippings, and the toilet was extremely dirty.
We were told our beds would be made up for our arrival, but this was not the case, and there was no linen provided to make them ourselves. When I raised these issues with staff, they were polite but seemed unsurprised by the complaint, which suggested that this is not an isolated problem. Their explanation that they had been “very busy” is, in my opinion, no excuse for such poor standards.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we’ve experienced this — we had a similar issue previously but gave the park the benefit of the doubt and put it down to a one-off. However, other members of our party also reported that their caravan was very dirty, and shockingly, their bed linen had blood stains on it.
After many years of returning and previously enjoying our stays, it’s disappointing to see the standards have dropped so much. We will not be returning again unless there is a clear improvement in cleanliness and attention to detail.
Just had Our 37th stay…
We recently came back from Our 37th vist, as always, A great stay. All these negative reviews are just whingers. Yes, the caravans will show signs of wear and tear, especially with some of the "self entitled" people that stay in them.
As for rude staff?.... in nearly 40 visits, ive never encountered anyone rude, so if you've encountered a rude member of staff, my guess is that you were rude and or arrogant to them!
Wonderful site, wonderful location, wonderful break. Highly recommend,
We visited the site in July 2025
We visited the site in July 2025. In truth the site itself is beautiful with lovely gardens. Our issue is that mattress/pillow protectors are NOT changed after every guest. We queried this as Industry Standards state these should be changed after EVERY GUEST - the reply we received is as below - the word “soiled” is particularly offensive:
“To clarify, mattress and pillow protectors are in place as an added layer of protection and cleanliness for all guests. These are generally not removed and washed after every stay unless they are soiled or it is deemed necessary by our housekeeping team. Our experienced housekeepers make this decision based on the condition of the protectors, in line with industry standards and best hygiene practices.
However, please be assured that a fresh over-sheet is placed on top of the mattress protector for every new guest, along with freshly laundered bed linen and pillowcases. This ensures a clean and hygienic sleep environment for every arrival.”
I checked with Industry Standards who gave the following information:
Industry Practices:
“Hospitality:
In the hospitality industry, mattress protectors are changed after each guest's checkout to maintain high hygiene standards."
Poor management, Hot tub not working !!
Let's start with the Management, I have been visiting this resort for over 10 years, however new Management have arrived, untrained uninterested, and have no customer service and training Management argumentative to customer, and denied anything was wrong and ignored numerous complaints! Mould and damp in lounge and damp in the lounge and main bathroom. Shower facilities falling off and not checked, facilities to use wet suits etc only open on a Tuesday morning for one hour, which we wasn't informed, which was included in the lodge . No personal welcome anymore or interested in the customers.
Will not be going back.!! Avoid as if you have any issues they won't be interested in resolving anything!!
Stay away.
Booked a holiday in May this year, unfortunately could not go as my wife passed away 4 days before we due to go. Contacted the company 3 days after we were meant to arrive to explain the situation, was told no refund due as I didn't contact them before I went, think I had other things on my mind.Even though I had paid insurance with them, there attitude astounded me as no regards to the situation and lack of compassion, not even a mention of a part refund. I can only say do not book a holiday with this company ther only concern is we've got your money stuff you.
Money Grabbing & Dishonest
To begin, I booked accommodation for six people and one dog, which was confirmed in my order. However, upon reviewing my booking closer to the holiday, I was shocked to discover that their system did not reflect the allowance of a pet in the accommodation. This was extremely concerning as we had every intention of bringing our dog. After contacting the team, I was informed that despite my booking confirmation, your system had no record of a pet-friendly caravan and that I would be required to pay an additional £39 to change to a pet-friendly unit. While this was disappointing, I accepted that technical issues can occur.
Following this, I attempted to amend the booking online via the instructions provided by a staff member. However, the process left me with a "pending" status and no resolution until I received a phone call on the very morning of our holiday (18/10/24), confirming that no changes had been made. Nevertheless, I was told a pet-friendly caravan was still available, and I confirmed my intention to move forward with the booking, with the understanding that the £39 charge would be settled at reception upon arrival.
An hour later, to my absolute disbelief, I received a call informing me that the very accommodation I had just been promised had been sold. Instead, I was offered an “upgrade” to a Queen Pet Caravan, which would not only cost the £39 for the transfer to the pet caravan but an additional £75 for the upgrade. This resulted in a total charge of £114, nearly the entire cost of the holiday itself. I am outraged that, through no fault of my own, I was being forced into paying significantly more due to your company's inefficiencies. Despite explaining this to the staff member, I received no assistance and was told I had no choice but to accept these inflated charges. Adding to the frustration, I was assured of a callback from a manager, which never came.
Upon arrival after our 5-hour journey, we were met with what can only be described as disdain, with the receptionist referring to us as the “difficult doggy customers.” This was both rude and unprofessional. Furthermore, the inconsistent and conflicting information regarding the charges continued. We were initially told the £39 would transfer us to a pet-friendly Gold caravan, then to be told on the phone there would be a £114 charge for a queen pet caravan, yet upon arrival, it had changed to no queen or pet caravan being available at all. However the charges transformed into a £75 ‘cleaning fee’ for the same accommodation we had already booked and a £39 fee for the dog. The explanations given were nonsensical and contradictory, leading me to believe that these charges were fabricated to extract more money from us.
I was met with an offer of a 30% off voucher for the restaurant, this was not a resolution. Especially as we had already planned out our weekend meals etc, so were not going to be eating on site. The situation was further aggravated when, after several attempts to resolve this, the only concession offered by the manager was to remove the unjustified £39 charge. This was done not as an acknowledgment of your company’s failures, but only because the manager was “new” and could "get away with it.", her words. By this point, we had no option but to pay the remaining £75 or be left stranded after a lengthy journey. The treatment we received prioritised extracting money over customer care, which is entirely unacceptable.
Adding insult to injury, the caravan itself was in poor condition. It had a foul odour (sweat), the fridge was dirty, and there were clumps of dust on the bedding. Despite complaining to staff on-site, no action was taken to rectify these issues.
In conclusion, this experience has been a complete disaster from start to finish. The lack of professionalism, the blatant disregard for customer service, and the baseless charges demonstrate a fundamental failure within the company to provide an acceptable standard of care. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this holiday park to anyone.
Low standards
Firstly i would lilw to highlight two great bits.. the location is fabulous and the entertainment teams were great! We paid for a Platinum caravan because I wanted to have a deck and bbq space to make the most of our summer break. The caravan was very tired and standards low. Pics available to support. The patio doors look like they had been taped up, the deck desperate for a re paint and facing into a bush..very odd. At night we were subjected to a very noisy group booking across several caravans. Smoked cannabis and boozed until late subjecting us all to their family issues. I had to go and speak to them myself because the park had nobody out and about from a security perspective which I felt uneasy about. The family also had a Sausage dog which yapped from dawn til dusk. We have dogs but left them at home for a quiet break...why would you mix dog and non dog caravans all together? By far the worst and most disturbing bit was night before we left I pulled my bag down to pack. I had put it on top of the wardrobe. As I pulled it down several syringes fell with it..when I checked there was a large bunch of them! My kids had been in the caravan, thank God they didn't find them. We headed home early as we had a long drive ahead. I wrote an email to customer services expecting them to care...all I got was a feeble 'sorry' email. They said they would 'tell the manager' and do some training but policy is to complain in person. I'm sorry but having spent £1300 on a five night break I think they can do much better. I never even got contacted 'by the manager' left feeling totally unappreciated as a customer. We know things happen and I never usually complain but the whole week added up to a poor holiday experience. I would have loved to go back but sadly have lost all faith in this company. I work for a brand where customer experience is hugely valued and we cherish each one....Woolacombe bay holiday park just take the money and rely on new customers not repeat.
Got there place wasn't disabled so had…
Got there place wasn't disabled so had find new park was on form.bad service
Family holiday
My grandson, his wife and my 4 year old great grandson wanted my daughter and I to go here with them.(2 caravans) if I had seen some of these reviews I might not have bothered, our accommodation was clean, but in reliance on the wifi, I have bad arthritis, I decided to wait to order my monthly meds for home and ditto my supermarket order, Had to walk down to the reception area to do all that. Like it or not, we have to rely on it these days so to advertise it as available when it is not - not good. I would not go back there.
Booked 7 nights holiday in platinum…
Booked 7 nights holiday in platinum caravan when got in caravan was very run down not what you would expect for platinum range TV didn't work both toilet seats was loose and locks on doors didn't work they agreed to move us got to the next caravan and it was full of ants so went back to reception and they said we had to go back into the 1st one for one night and would move in morning didn't hear anything so had to go back to reception and the manger on didn't know anything but moved us but had to wait till 3pm to get moved so try and keep in mind these are very dated caravans
Limited interest if anything goes wrong
We had a sudden situation which meant we could not attend and we did not have the cover. I informed customer services a few days before we were due and when I advised it would be unlikely I would have anyone to transfer the booking to their overriding priority was to rush us to cancel so that they in their own words rent the van out to someone else. I was also advised that they wouldn’t have covered our situation with their cover anyway. Their overriding priority was to seek to rent it out to someone else with no gesture made if they were able to do so whilst we would just lose everything. To add insult to injury the call was ended with remember next time to book insurance. I also noticed when a van was assigned it was on the top of the hill and we had left special access instructions which would have meant this van would have been unsuitable anyway. I attempted to complain but found there was no interest aside from saying that’s the way we operate and procedure was followed. Just be aware that should anything go wrong there is limited interest.
Please do not book any sea view…
Please do not book any sea view depending on website. We booked our gold caravan with sea view and this was not the case when we arrived. There was another caravan obstructing the view and we complained and nothing was available elsewhere apart from some caravans on the top of the shop. The food is awful. The caravan floor is not child friendly. The staff who is the team leader was very pleasant. However the higher management is the one who make the decision full of false promises on the website. Please please please do not come to this park
