Rented from Apollo for the first time and the service was excellent. I changed my booking several times after paying in full upfront, and the team accommodated every request. They even offered a refund when my revised plans cost less than what I had already paid, which is a huge plus.

When we hit an issue mid-trip, I emailed support after office hours and had a helpful reply early the next day. Responsive, flexible and genuinely customer-focused.

I found underwear in the van and they just tried to sell things like insurance and cleaning

Hired an Apollo Hitop in Perth for a week in September. The camper lost all engine power after about 145 km on the first day and we spent the night parked at a lookout on Indian Ocean Drive. Apollo provided a replacement vehicle and we lost one day of the trip.

The team at the Perth branch were helpful and handled the breakdown itself well. The compensation was the harder part. The first offer covered half a day. After I pointed to the breakdown clause in Apollo's own rental agreement, it was corrected to a full day. Getting to the amount the contract already provides for should not require two emails and a clause reference.

Credit to the branch staff. The vehicle and the claims process were the weak points.

Renting a motorhome is not inexpensive and while you don't expect a brand new home, there were so many small 'glitches' that on their own were no issue, but built up to frustration over a long trip. The cutlery drawer popped open at least three times a day, the clasp to set up the awning was broken on one side, the sensor for the coolant would constantly say 'fill up' even when full, the reversing mirror faced the immediate road behind the motohome only (we had to get this repaired ourselves for safety reasons). Won't be hiring one again.

The camper itself was comfortable, but unfortunately we experienced several issues, particularly with a weak battery and a sputtering water tap.

As first-time campervan renters, we were told by the rental company that we should stay at a powered campsite every two days. We were already disappointed by this, but assumed it was normal. Of course, battery life depends on electricity consumption, but we were using very little power: we only had the fridge running on its low setting and occasionally used the water pump. Despite driving long distances to recharge the battery and having a solar panel, the battery kept running low very quickly.

The situation became particularly serious when the carbon monoxide alarm, which was connected to the camper’s power supply, went off during the night due to insufficient power. On one occasion, we had to wake up the camp host in the middle of the night and connect the camper to a 240V power supply just to stop the alarm.

The battery issues also meant that, before staying in Karijini National Park, where powered campsites were not available, we had to disconnect the carbon monoxide alarm, which is a safety risk.

Customer service was far from helpful when we tried to resolve the issues. They repeatedly asked us to look for a reset button, but they couldn’t even tell us where it was located. We later discovered that our camper didn’t have a reset button at all. This was quite a clumsy way of handling the situation, wasting even more of our time while we were trying to resolve the problem.

After numerous contacts with customer service and very little proactive support, we eventually drove to a mechanic ourselves. Only after pushing for a solution was the battery replaced. The difference was remarkable: afterwards, we could easily go four to five days, and potentially even longer, without needing a powered campsite.

This was further confirmed by our experience with other campervan rental companies later in our trip. The campers we rented from them had perfectly functioning batteries, allowing us to stay at unpowered campsites for five days or more without needing a 240V connection. This made it clear to us that having to find a powered campsite every other night was not simply an unavoidable part of travelling in a campervan, but a problem with the battery in the original vehicle.

This made us feel that we had been sent on our trip with a severely deteriorated battery. In our view, advising customers to stay at powered campsites every other night seemed to be a way of working around the problem rather than addressing it by replacing the battery in the first place.

As a result, we incurred unnecessary additional costs for powered campsites and had to skip some unpowered campsites that we would otherwise have loved to stay at. In hindsight, these extra costs and limitations could largely have been avoided if the battery had been replaced before the start of our trip.

We raised these concerns and received a small amount of compensation, but it was nowhere near proportionate to the inconvenience, extra costs and limitations we experienced throughout our trip.

Overall, a disappointing experience. For the amount of money we paid, we expected better.

Our advice to future renters: Don’t accept being told that needing a powered campsite every other night is normal. If your battery runs out quickly, insist that it is properly checked before setting off. A faulty battery can cost you extra money and unnecessarily limit your travel options.

Vehicle went like a dream . The only set back for us as a family , it was not the 4 bith we reviewed when we booked. The vehicle set out was different and the vehicle was about a metre smaller in length which we found would have made all the difference to our holiday. We would definitely do it again but with a 4 birth with more length and different configuration.

I took a 6 berth Apollo Euro Delux camper out on my own, which I was nervous to drive and had never expereienced something of that size before - but the crew, especially Phil, talked me through every element and sent me on my way with confidence.
The vehicle was magical, and made my trip easy, comfortable and made me the envy of the caravan park. Thanks Apollo crew - i'll be back.
