Sometimes it’s great service, other times you place an online order with items showing as in stock, receive confirmation texts about your order “working its way through the warehouse” and then a week later receive a cancelled order email saying there is no stock. They appear to allow more online purchases than the items they have in stock, which is frustrating as I can’t fault the actual products. This has happened now on two occasions in the last few months.

During a recent visit to Hull we bought some walking boots helped and assisted by two friendly young men, Dave? and Kurt at Blacks. They even let us bring our bikes into the shop to keep them secure! This is what customer service is all about and these guys certainly have it off to a fine art. Keep up the good work....you're doing a great job! Thanks, Pat & Sandy McKay

We went to the Cardiff bay store looking for a bag as my daughter is going to high school meet a guy called Rhys so helpful and good knowledge of the products .

I received excellent service on 7 August 2021 at Blacks in Bath from Guy and Peter which included very knowledgeable advice and help in selecting new boots and refund on previous defective boots.

Visited Blacks Welwyn Garden City looking for some walking boots, got some at a good price, really nice fit. I received great service, bought some fab walking socks to go with the boots. Happy to say three walks in, no rubs, no blisters. Really happy with my purchases. Thank you Sessia!

I had occasion today to return a Wild Country Zephyros 2 tent to Blacks Sheffield store on the Moor - store number 481. The manager, Stevie, was fantastic - extremely helpful, understanding and obliging, exchanging my faulty tent with a new replacement. All done with a smile. She is a credit to the store and the business. Five stars, all round.

I had a very pleasant experience in the Bury St Edmunds branch today. Duncan could not have been more helpful, and is very knowledgeable.

My husband and myself regularly shop at the Derby branch of Blacks, Belinda has been helping us with advice for a number of years. When we started walking as a hobby she gave lots of advice on the gear we would need and the advice has served us well. Staff are always very helpful in this branch.

I visited Basingstoke Branch and staff (JB) was so helpful and patient. I needed to return my boots the next day and when I called the store they were really helpful phoning around other stores to find the right stock. It's great to be able to visit a store and try on boots with staff where nothing is too much trouble. 🙂

I ordered a small light weight item that had not arrived after 11 days. It could have fitted in a small envelope. Only after contacting Blacks Customer Services did they tell me it had been "damaged beyond repair in transit".
I asked for a replacement to be sent by express post - a first class stamp on an envelope (at their expense) because the long delay and damage was their responsibility.
On day 12 I got a terse refusal.

On those few other occasions this situation has arisen, the other on-line suppliers gave me an upgraded postage without being asked. Blacks seem to value customer satisfaction less than the price of a stamp.

I've made several purchases from black.co.uk over the past few years and was consistently satisfied with top quality of their cashmere products and efficiency of their service. They often delivered ahead of indicated time, and the product was always neatly packed and presented. One of the rare companies whose service didn't falter a bit during the covid pandemic.

Excellent service from James who works at the Llandudno Branch of Blacks. I'm a regular customer at the store and the service is always first class with a good selection of quality stock.

My son ordered a black fleece for me that arrived promptly and well packaged. It was perfect.

Quick and efficient. After ordering a pair of walking boots online I received an e-mail within a couple of hours saying they had left the warehouse and they duly arrived with me two days later. And the boots were £15 cheaper than at least one competitor. What is not to like.

My order for some boots was delivered within 4 days even though I had been warned that it may take over 10 days.

Do not order from Blacks online. If there are any issues with your order they don't respond on email and after holding for an inordinate amount of time the phone, their people are unhelpful and hang up on you.
I ordered a bike lock and a bike light. They packed a heavy bike chain in a small plastic bike with a bike light. Unsurprisingly the bike light was demolished by the bike lock and though I emailed customer care with pictures of the damage on the day I received it I only received automatic email responses. I called the customer care line and after holding for over 10 mins the person who tried to help me said I had to send the damaged item back for it to be assessed before they would exchange it or give me a refund. No other online retailer would request this when a damaged item was received by a customer and pictures of the damage were sent.
I then went into one of their stores. The store manager was apologetic and said their online store system is about 10 years out of date and they hear complaints from customers everyday who revert to stores to deal with returns. So shop at a Blacks or Millet store but don't order anything online. Better to get it from Amazon who put customers 1st.

I ordered a pair of Scarpa Terra11 Gore Tex walking boots with a 4 to 5 day delivery. The delivery took 8 days which given the busy time of year I can accept. The fact that the package was left outside the front door with no knock whilst we were waiting in less so. I ordered the Scarpa Terra 11 as the description said the new version had a wider fitting in the toe area which I need. The boots came in a scruffy old box which made me a little suspicious. I checked the box and nothing to say which model but the delivery slip said Terra 1. Having rung customer service I was told I now have to re-pack the boots print the return label and send them back for a refund. I can at that point see if they have the Terra 11 and re-order. To say I am annoyed at the waste of my time and the lack of the boots I ordered is an understatement. POOR.
