Wish I could give negative stars

Wish I could give negative stars. My parents have CNA long term care insurance and despite medical necessity of needing assisted living CNA refuses to pay. 24 years of on time premium payments. My father passed away 7 months after entering care with no benefits received and my mother is now on hospice and has been denied 3 times. CNA preys on the elderly making them think they are doing something good for their children and instead it causes nightmares for their children. Their practices should be illegal and if I had more money I would hire an attorney.

Nightmare experience with CNA

My late wife took out a long term care policy with CNA about 25 years ago. In 2023 she was diagnosed with Interstitial lung disease and congestive heart failure. She required Oxgen for the rest of her life. On leaving the hospital I did not consider filing a claim on her CNA policy (she would have qualified for it under CNA's guidelines) which I should have, but decided to caretake myself which I did for the next 2 years. By doing so I saved CNA nearly $150k in daily benefits. Did that count for anything according to CNA, although in the contract it was disputable - absolutely no. In December 2024 due to her deteriorating conditions she blackedout and fell over fracturing a vertebae. This resulted in another hospital stay. She was not able to withstand any rehab because of her underlying conditions so she was released to go to a skilled nursing facilty. Her condition did not improve so she came home on hospice care. At this point I called CNA to find out how to file a claim. After explaining the history of my wife's condition, I was informed by their customer service department that the most recent hospital and skilled nursing stays should count towards the 90 day waiting period before benefits would start. I then filed a claim. After a 45 minute telephone conversation where they asked for every detail, about her history, daily notes for her stays, doctors involved with treatment including all contact information. I asked if CNA required me to provide documentation to support the telephone call. I was told that the claims department would contact the facilities and doctors themselves. This is when the nightmare started. Firstly the hospital and nursing home stays were not counted in the 90 days. I recounted what customer service had told me and the answer was we at the claims department make the decisions. Also in spite of the fact that the contract stated the waiting period was 90 days, I was then told that it was 90 service days. According to CNA that meant that in order to qualify for a day we needed to have a home care company approved by CNA to provide at least 5 hours help day. Approved meant that the company had to have a licence in Texas but also to be on CNA's approved list. So not only did we have to wait 90 "service" days until benefits started, we had to pay for the services of the "approved" company as well. We quickly found out that getting approval for anything required reems of paper and a lot of time. Everything took 10 days to 14 days. We received a multitude of correspondence from CNA which also took at least 14 days to receive from the date on the letters. Often the letters contained information which was repetitive and sometimes appearing to be conflicting. At the best it was confusing. When calling CNA, which I did often to try and clarify issues, you always talked to a different person every time. In each call you had to give the "Certificate" number, and every time I had to identify myself as the husband and approved representative of my wife. Talking directly to the claims manager, claims coordinator, or management was out of the question. Every time I called in I was often told a different story which seemed to change on a daily basis. In some cases. it seemed to me dishonesty appeared to be apparent. It seemed to me often that they would tell me anything to get me off the line. I called the entities and in several cases they were often never contacted by CNA. So i put a comprehensive package together with all supporting documentation. The receipt of this package was never acknowledged and further the multitude of forms that CNA demanded to be completed were claimed to have never been received. Also supporting documentation fromsome of the entities, were often claimed to have never been received . In some cases the information had to be sent many times without acknowledgement. It was quite clear to me that the edict of the CNA management was to deny, disrupt and delay everything. Do whatever you can to avoid paying any benefits at all. Make it so difficult, complicated, and costly (because of of the required help), and time consuming. This of course was designed to make many customers just give up. Watching my wife dying a bit more each day was stressful enough but dealing with CNA increased the stress substantially for both my wife and I. Over a 25 year period we paid $38k. She died half way through the waiting period, so we get no benefits, plus we had to pay about $15k in help which we did not need. I can honestly say that CNA is the worst company that I have ever dealt with in my 84 years of living. No wonder they get such terrible ratings I would rate them with 5 negative stars

Lies

This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with!!! You don't want to pay your customers the money that is due them!! We pay in, but you make it Sooo hard to pay out what is due to your policy holder!!! 😡 I have been working on behalf of my sibling who has dementia, and have spent countless hours on the phone, and 3 months has passed, and it's still NOT resolved. DO BETTER!!!

If I could give them negative 5 stars

If I could give them negative 5 stars, I would. They will do anything to not cover a claim. I had an electrical issue with my vehicle that was caused by water intrusion. The dealership says that they see this happening quite a bit, in just wear and tear but at no fault to the owner. CNA would not cover this. Please save yourself some money and do NOT use CNA.

CNA has abysmal case management

CNA has abysmal case management, procedures, knowledge of Medicare and their own policies. The tactics they use to delay approvals, prevent or short pay policy holders is obvious and embarrassing to this organization. I now have 88 year old and 90 year old parents that are at risk due to their incompetence's in handling LTI!

My wife and I took out long term…

My wife and I took out long term insurance from the government in Maryland 25 years ago, and never made a claim. My wife got a "buy out deal", but I did not because THEY claim my policy was issued in CALIFORNIA! Both our policies were issued the same DAY in MARYLAND. They tell me that they will give me NOTHING to surrender the policy. THEY ARE CROOKS, DON'T DEAL WITH THEM.

Negative 5 Stars

If you want to join me in a class action lawsuit against this company, email me at: swiftsowl @ gmail.com

If I could give this outfit negative stars I would. Anyone reading this, DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT consider taking out a long term care policy with this company. Unless you have copious amounts of patience, tenacity and time, they will literally drive you crazy. Every time I get off the phone with one of their customer service reps, my blood pressure is through the roof. Sometimes suicide crossed my mind.
My father took out 2 policies in the mid 90’s—one for mom and one for himself and have been paying for almost 30 years. Now dad has pretty bad dementia and mom not far behind. The hoops CNA continuously makes you jump through to receive a dime is just ridiculous, even having to recertify diagnosis of dementia 90 days after claim approval!? What?! You think he’s recovered and no longer in need of care?
Everything is done by fax and letter via snail mail. Everything is time-lagged by a month or more. One person tells you one thing and another person tells you another. You never talk to the same person twice and heaven forbid, you can’t talk to the person actually processing the claim to ask questions… nope!
I’ve been working to get reimbursement on claims, after spending thousands of dollars out of pocket, since April, 2024. Know how much we’ve been reimbursed? Less than $800. But for me that was a small victory to even get that. Now I’m trying to pursue thousand more but of course more hoops to jump through due to some random persons rejections of care notes.
I could go on for hours about how incredibly painful CNA has made this time of life. I work full time in addition to my part-time job of helping my demented parents AND calling CNA with questions. Anyone with a CNA policy needs to make sure you have high functioning children who can navigate this process for you in the future. Otherwise, CNA will get off paying you NOTHING!! That is their goal after all. They are evil.

Terrible policy about authorized individuals

We need to update the mailing address on my father's policy. My father has dementia, so I'm officially authorized on the policy, but the representative said they couldn't update a mailing address without my father coming to the phone. There is no way to update the address online or send a letter, and even my being authorized on the account didn't matter. That is absolutely ridiculous for a company that must regularly deal with people who are incapacitated or unable to participate in this sort of administration.

Fraudulent. They will try anything to try not to pay a ligitimet claim. They was ask for tons of paper work and validation making you think if you send them they will pay your claim.
DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. That is why they have 48 billion with a B dollars.

SCUM of the EARTH.

Raised rates again 1/1/2024.
They say they sent a letter.
May 31, 2024 received a letter dated 5/1/2024 saying Long Term Care policy would be canceled in 35 days if shortfall (2 Increased payments not made by 6/6).
They do not take payments over the phone.
They do not take checkfree.
Payment must be paid or policy canceled.
They suggest overnight mail. With their pro-cancelation policy I don't expect it to arrive on time.

Best estimate We have paid $18-20K toward a Long Term Care Policy and now that we may need it (Wife has MS, I have CKD and diabetes, they want us gone.

Do NOT take out a policy with this…

Do NOT take out a policy with this company. WORST experience I've ever had dealing with my mother's long term care insurance. PILES of hoops they made me jump through only to deny her claim. We are in the process of suing for the premiums she paid for for 15 years. STAY AWAY

Is ZERO STARS an option?!?!

Is ZERO STARS an option?!?!? This company is a bunch of crooks. I have a legitimate claim and they are refusing to pay the claim out because I did not "ask for permission first". My car was actively leaking oil all over my driveway so I took it to the closest repair shop. I was even hesitant to start it to take it that far based on how much oil was in my driveway. Sun Devil Auto is right around the corner from me and they are not a fly by night shop and are very reputable. They fixed the issue and when I tried to get reimbursement, I was told no. Even the guy on the phone said that due to saving costs, we can't honor a claim after the fact. It's a hard and fast rule. This company is TRASH and should not be trusted!!!

Difficult company to work with.

My mom will be 90. She has dementia. She is in assisted living. I’ve spent hours on the phone with multiple representatives from CNA. One person says they have the paperwork, another person tells me paperwork hasn’t been received. FAXs seem to get lost. Emails go un answered. My mother has paid into this for years. CNA makes it very difficult to get reimbursed. I imagine many seniors just give up. This seems to me, a form of elder abuse….confuse them with massive amounts of paperwork, legal jargon and excessive wait times on the phone. How many years can an ailing senior fight this fight?

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

This company finds every which way possible to delay the claims approval process and then when approved they find ways to avoid paying claims.... can't find file, deposit was rejected from bank, don't have the info you sent us 3x, our systems are down, we didn't get the fax/email... Two of us are assisting my mom who has been paying premiums for over 25 years!!! We've been calling, faxing, emailing, using their portal, etc for months and have not received one penny. I feel sorry for elderly people who have no one to help them navigate this nightmare. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them don't survive long enough to get a payout. Money truly is the root of all evil!
